Re: The end Game PLD role in Melee burn parties?

csBahamut makes a really good suggestion about gear. At least having a defensive set of gear (Vit and Enmity) as well as a DD set is a big bonus in TP-spam parties. If the pt is in trouble you can gear-swap back to your defensive set immedieatly and hold hate to save others. Then when things even out just go back DD and you're back to normal. I don't have a NIN sub but when I can get a burn pt together with linkmate I'm always happy to be able to keep hate under control and be able to hold it if things get bad in the party. Without /WAR you lose voke and a lot of other good abilities that allow you to DD as well as hold enmity and keep a party safe.

PLD/WAR is a nice saftey net in a burn pt. You can still do decent damage when compared to /NIN and can support as well as tank and DD.

PLD/THF (I remember this thread at KI a while ago)

I think if I recall, imac2much defeated Maat with a greatsword and spinning slash. He beat G5 in a way most PLDs wouldn't even consider (That's about 99.9% of the PLDs out there)

We're talking strictly high end or in general? DRK/NIN w/ dual axes rule Ballista (I can attest to this, ranking as top DRK in a lot of the matches I enter in many different caps) DRK/NIN > DRK/WAR in Royal Jellies. The delay is just too profound to ignore and dual weapons + souleater > one big slow swing.

In end game, with the right gear, DRK/NIN can pull even with DRK/WAR if given the right situation. Otherwise, I agree that DRK/WAR still can pull out bigger numbers if they load up on a lot of DEX and STR (For the crits, because the crits are where the bigger numbers come from on DPS performance)

My comment was designed towards exp parties at pretty much all level ranges.

To get a little more specific: levels 50-56 dual axes are pretty decent with dual vikings if you're a super acc freak. You'd end up with higher acc than you could ever attain with your A rank weapons but you'd lose berserk and double attack so I think in order to perform best, you'd have to eat meat dishes. But if you're eating meat dishes, you may as well do /war + scythe and just make some gear changes or eat sushi. However, I think shadows make this combo acceptable, since you don't lose much damage but gain a billion points of survivability.

Levels 56-59, Rampage + souleater + shadows to make sure you don't die during SE. e.e But level 60, you have Guillotine and Vikings' base DMG of 36 is pretty sad.

level 40 drk/nin: your delay with dual axes=scythe delay (no shit, you end up with around an 8-20 delay difference). You're right that souleater gets double effect in that time though. since instead of hitting once for [theoretical easy numbers] 100 + souleater damage, it's 50 + souleater + 50 + souleater. But you know all about that 'cuz you're a DRK.

Honestly though, I bring war/mnk to that BC with Greataxe and out of 30-40 runs, I have yet to see the princess jellies form together to make that queen jelly or whatever. (not all of those runs were war/mnk, but I do find it to be best. Blinking is a waste of time so /nin is useless and SA isn't reliable enough considering how much i'm bound so /mnk benefits ftw).
