Phalanx or VIT Rings @50

I need to know if I'd benefit from Phalanx (many in LS tell me to get Phalanx) or to get VIT+ rings...im ya'lls experience which work better?

Well considering the Chrysoberyl Rings are Lv54... I say Phalanx.
But at 54 I say switch to them as VIT becomes more important than Defense starting at around that level.

Go with the verve rings for level 50. With food, defender, sentinal, protect 3 and good equips, you def will be capped around 510. So, that def +10 on the phalanx ring wont even come into play. If you really want some extra def, just save up for a pair of verve rings +1. With 3 def on each, you are only looking at a 4 point difference from a single phalanx.

Erm..verve rings are like 70K each aren't they? @_@ Phalanx are cheaper @_@...but whatever is better.

Aries, I found once I gained rank 5 and the airship pass it was a great deal easier to complete some pretty good gil making quests, that aside from the fact you gain 10k for completing it. I'm in the middle of completing the Teleport quests right now and as an indication on Fenrir these are the prices of some of the easy to obtain ones:

Dem - 50k
Holla - 10k
Mea - 90k
Altep - 50k

Look up the Cactus Stem quest in Bastok as well. You gain four stems that sell for roughly 11k each. Apologies if you have already done these.

Hey Aeris, I'm currently in your position right now, but I'm saving up for Verve rings so that I can skip the part for the Chery rings at 54 and just stick with em all the way. Currently I'm using the +2 36 rings (Sphene *even though my profile says i have verve*) and I'm doing fine being -2 Vit short of what I should have instead. Anyway, it's up to you really to either save up for the verve, or go the way I'm going and stick with +2's til you either get the verve/Chery, or buy Phalanx til you get Chery.

I suggest carrying a set of both. There will be mobs where the Phalanx rings will reduce more damage, and times when the VIT rings reduce more damage. You really need to test each mob you exp on to see. For me, around lvl 55-56 is when the VIT rings made a greater impact on the damage I took. Since you'll probably level on crabs most of the time, 56 would be a safe level to switch. Use phalanx before that. This is based on my experience with my equipment choices.

Thanks all. Like JP and Bahamut said I think I'll get Phalanx Rings untill lvl 54 when I can buy the Chrysolberl VIT+3 ones then I will switch. I'm sure before than the -4VIT and +20 DEF will not see too much of a difference in damage taken.

Aries, I've solo'd the Mea, Dem, and Holla scrolls so far. All you need is sufficient fame to get the quests, believe it's level 5 in each respective city. You get the quest, find the ??? and head back to the quest giver and gain your scroll which you promptly put up for sale in Jeuno. That is assuming you don't plan on levelling your whm at some point for the teleports. Even then, once you're a high level paladin my feeling is the cost of the spells at that point will be a drop in the ocean.

Each stem sells for 11k on Fenrir and you gain 4.

As a side note, some swine has raised the price of Phalanx rings from 5k to 10k on my server. :sweat:

To answer your question about rank 5, I simply meant it makes running around from city to city in order to do quests a lot easier.

Thanks a lot Grizzle, just helping me back I guess I recall me helping you with some post in the past...
I think I'll take on those quests and with the Ores I traded in Bastok (to get Tenshodo fame), the Bat Wings in San D'oria and the Moss in Selbine I think I'll have enough fame for at least a couple of the teleport quests. Is there anywhere/way I can check the level of fame I have in the respective cities?
P.S Don't complain about Phalanx prices, on Siren it is 20K minimum for a Phalanx Ring 4 or 2 times your price.
