Regarding PLD prices

What's the first big purchase for PLD? I'm a 42 mnk now and have to purchase things like the jujitsu gi for 150k and the kote for 400k...

when's the first big purchases like this for pld...?

second question and i guess it's just more to the point than question one...

how does the cost of PLD compare to some other jobs...i've heard that PLD is relatively inexpensive compared because with this job individual skill is the determining factor moreso than strictly the equip...

First big single purchase for me was Gluttony Sword for 380K.

Paladin isn't the most expensive job, but it isn't cheap by any means too. We need up-to-date armor to prevent from being beaten to a bloody pulp, and our food isn't the cheapest either...

Amazingly, your first "big" purchase is not until Gluttony Sword at level 57. It is around 300k on my server. If you were Galka then you would want Astral Rings, but... you're not After that there are some shields that are expensive, but the job is blessed in that our AF is usable all the way until Adaman at 73 (and some even consider that upgrade optional).

For these reasons I would agree that yes, Paladin is one of the more inexpensive jobs. However, keep in mind we use the most costly food. Fish Mithkabobs, the cheapest (acceptable) defense food, cost twice what Meat Mithkabobs do, and if you want to use better food, then obviously the price goes up from there.

The practical difference between a PLD with merely "acceptable" equipment (everything up-to-date but not HQ) and one that has +1 everything is indeed pretty small if they both play equally well. Still, that doesn't stop us from splitting hairs over a lot of equipment choices (the Warrior's Belt+1 vs. RK Belt vs. Life Belt debate comes to mind). Just don't make any truly dopey choices like Barbarian's Belt or Gigas bracelets (both of which I have seen on Garuda PLD's ) and you will be fine :spin:

PLD is "cheap" compared to other jobs. Still, it not like 50k will get you to level 50. You can never ever skip on armor upgrades. I think Gryff said it best(paraphrase) "PLD will set you back a few million, but NIN or RNG can set you back by ten million".

My first big purchase for PLD was my RSE belt, 500k. Then 1 level later Dark Staff for 350k(it pains me a tad to see it went down to 190k three weeks after, but at least now mages dont have an excuse not to get one).

And yes, food can get expensive. Right now a stack of Steam crab is 20k. Believe you me, even as lvl 71 cook is a tad cheaper and a whole lot less hassle to just pay the 20k. The cap for Boiled crab is 27, I am 44 levels above and still only HQ like 2-3 out of 10 synths. I have way better HQ luck on other recipes that have higher caps. Its plain stupid, I am not sure whats up with this recipe (hehe, sorry for the side rant).

Yeah, PLD definitely isn't the most expensive job on the server, but imo, it's not very cheap... Here's just a few things I have bought, the prices on our server, and the future things I need to buy soon:

Gluttony Sword = 500k
Espadon+1 = 380k
Earth Staff = 300k
Dark Staff = 200k
Adaman Gear = Totals at about roughly 3 million for all the pieces which I plan on getting...

I guess those are the top 4 items (or sets) that most Paladins get.

Oh and I usually use Steamed Crab which is 20k/stack. :dead:

You know Bite man I truly feel you about those damn Steamed crabs. I've cooked them since i got to 27 and man I don't even get any HQ's after 30 synth's ; ; (and you're higher omg). I dunno maybe just me. But every HQ I get I save. I can't believe 20k for a stack of Steamed though, man that's a pain. But hey since you're at 71, keep at it, I heard you can make cash out of Tonosama balls (94), least then you get your loses back .

As for PLD's being the most inexpensive. We are , but again, we can't skip on equipment upgrades for every 5 levels or so after 40 (40 equip then switch to 45 equip (48 if you go for the Life belt) then 50, then so on until you get your last AF at 60 *RK chainmail until then). Then the sword and shield also comes to play (Gluttony and Espadon +1 are probably the most notable ones), then the shields *shiver*.

Im level 39 so far and havnt spent all that much. I already bought my level 40 armor, so that was my biggest purchase. So far, my "big" purchases were
Centurion gear - ~52k
Holy Phial - 30k
Grudge sword - 39k
Armor for level 40 - ~60k (Would have been around 110K, but i bought some of it with CP)

Thats about all I can think of. Its probably going to get a little more expensive soon, but from what I've read, pld is one of the least expensive jobs. I have a lot of fun playing a pld, too.

hm... when I look in the past. The investmens from lvl 1-40 were nothing to now. I am lvl 59.

Gluttony Sword did cost me 220k
Earth staff WOULD cost me 200k (but I am not yet planning to buy it, past 60 yes)
and a Dark Staff is also nice (but in PT not really needed^^) 200k again.
Life belt 50k
Shield 50k
2x Phalanx Rings 50k
mercenarys earring 50k
drone ring 25k
that are the expensiv ones, well the ones that did cost past 20k (if I didnt forget one)

sum up I have paid till now 450k+ for my current gear, and I am planning on getting dark staff and earth staff makes +400k agaiin = 900k (not to mention the shields later on)

U guys so lucky. I was one of them first generation NA Paladins on Midgardsormr... My first big purchase was indeed the Gluttony Sword. I paid 510k for it. Now its only around 300k.

Yeah, I feel lucky. I will be needing a Gluttony Sword myself very soon as I am only 1k exp from 55. Within the last month Gluttony Sword prices dropped from 450,000 gil to 290,000. As for Espandon +1, it's sitting at 200,000 gil right now.

And that was worth a lot more back then too... in relation, Peacock Charm was only 2-2.5mil back then (5.5 now) and E-bow was 2mil (5mil now). So basically, Glut was 1/3 price of Peacock Charm. Imagine that!
