  • Decision: +1 enmity or +3 acc ...

What would you use, and why?

I am faced with this decision as i level atm, and without the new weapons in hand yet...im looking to put my mind at ease.

Keep in mind i am considering this arguement with the hate i generate being my only concern.

It's basically grudge sword versus the other swords that give + accuracy that has taken me from 30 and look like they can take me to my af1...

    Go nuts!

+enimity because I hate when a tank loses hate and gets me hit.

grudge sword is seriously over-rated. If you really want it, go ahead, since +1 enimity IS better than +3 accuracy... however... I would switch to your AF sword at 42... so ask yourself if its really worth it. On top of that +1 enimity won't make or break you... it depends more on your skill as a tank.

I think your race plays a little bit in this decision as well.

Say for Glk, or Elv, with low acc, and MP, then I think they sword will help a bit on holding hate. In my mind, AF1 is a waste for Glk and Elv's since they have naturally high Vit, and mnd for elv's.

On the other hand for Mth, Hum and Taru, I would got for AF1 for sure.

I'd choose the +3 acc over +1 emity because as a pld, 1 extra hate won't help much especially u have flash already. With the extra mana from the rse if you still have problem holding hate you should diediedie XD

You'll hit harder with the grudge sword due to its higher dmg, but u'll also hit less and slower. It seems to me that the +acc and the lower delay from Centurion sword will generate more hate. Imo, the actual difference of +1 emity won't be noticeable yet with +3 acc you should feel the (slight) difference...think back when u first got the sword at lv30 and ask yourself the same question again :D

Having that said, you can always try the grudge sword urself since you can always sell it back. However, last time I checked the sales history wasnt that good so it may take some time before you can resell it

I have to concur with Lawdog. At your level, you shouldn't be needing the +1 emnity from the Grudge Sword. Besides, using it for 2 levels before your AF1? Kind of a waste. I stuck with Hunting sword till AF1, and that worked perfectly fine for me. If you want to use a +emnity or +acc sword, by all means, go ahead. I didn't like the low damage on the +acc swords. Already hit for crap, and with the damage down abilities on some of what you fight, doing 0 damage doesn't help much.

Take the hit, shrug it off, and ask if their mom hits any harder.

+1 enmity will help out quite a bit. It won't make or break you, but if you are good at gathering hate the enmity will give you that extra edge so you can keep the hate easier. Becomes even more useful when you some seriously huge amounts of damage flying around.

I usually can let out a 700 damage barrage shot and so far the PLDs that build on enmity or a THF using SATA are usually the only ones to take it back off me in a timely manner.

Flash is still king when it comes to grabbing hate and it will be into your late 40s at least.

If you want to experiment, try it out and see what you think. But, if that sword was an option when I was 39, I'd probably pass for something else.

If you find yourself having problems keeping hate, then the enmity+ would probably work out better than the acc+. PLD is still somewhat accurate in the 30s and low 40s in comparison to other jobs.

I always look at +enimity for pld as being the equivalent of -enimity for everyone else in the party. I would give up my -11 enimity on my whm if the pld could have +11 enimity in a heartbeat since that would not only benefit me, but also the parties dmg dealers. -enimity is good for non-tanks, +enimity is even better for tanks.

The pld's using the hunting swords at that level seemed to keep a lot better hate than the ones using centurions.

Buut.. the grudge swords only 1 less damage and it swings faster, with the + emnity. I think the war sword might beat both of them, but if its' just between the 2, grudge all the way.

At that lvl I think I would go for the Acc. I didn't have too much of a problem with hate then. But some might prefer to add the extra edge to hate.

Well hate was never the issue, always trying to be a little bit better was the concern.

The decision was, after tesing back and forth...+1 enmity made no noticable difference and i did see myself missing more.

Moved onto my shiny new Honor Sword (thanks zorca), noticed the ever so slight slight jump in dmg, and the other stats do their job, still not having hate issues, so i cant say i regret the af1 upgrade, suprise suprise.

Conclusion? Cant hurt? But only if youre bored and want a new sword would i really bother with it. Looks like ill make a 20k profit off of reselling Grude sword on the bright side ^^
