  • Eldieme Necropolis Coffer Key (AF hands)

Did this coffer key suck for everyone else? I think we (group of ten or eleven 55-60+ players in LS) were in Eldieme for about 2.5-3 hours hunting the Tomb Warriors and Tomb Mages looking for keys last night. 3 of us needed this key for the Dark Spark quest run, which is happening in our linkshell this coming weekend. We didn't get a single key drop. It was really pathetic. We only had slight difficulty getting to the key droppers. Anyway, we were hunting near the Hume Bones (Lich C Magnus) area.

    Man, I hate Eldieme ><

I forgot to mention that I think the moon phase really had something to do with the drop failure. Throughout my time in this game, I've noticed that the frequency of rare item or key drops, especially close to a new moon, are horrible. I went to Ghelsba/Yughott immediately after we all quit and left Eldieme, and I wasn't getting ANY keys there either, even with Treasure Hunter. When I left Eldieme, moon phase was 12% (waxing). I didn't even get a rare item or key in Ghelsba/Yughott until after 19% (waxing). And when it rained, it poured. After 19%, I started getting black slacks, red cryptex, lizard ledelsens, etc. like crazy. I also picked up two keys within a short period of time after 19%.

This isn't the first time I've noticed this while farming/hunting drops.

Where exactly is that area for the key? Like what entrance in batalia.

I’ll be going there soon, but have no idea which places is better.

As for the drop rate, it’s a random process and of course luck plays a big role.

I mention in my af1 thread, that my setparty got 5papers for the genkai1 in 3hours the third try. It took us 3hours the first time to get one and the second try we didn’t get any in 3hours. Go figure.

I’m guessing the key hunting will be the same. Annoying!

Coffer keys are easy to get. Here is how. I got this from a JPN Website Forum

Ok for coffer keys killing the same mobs over and over in one camp spot is the wrong way. You got move camp to other spots that the mobs that drop coffer keys. As for you in Eldieme there are two spawn points for tomb war and mages. Also note that there are other mobs that drop key that you have to kill to not just the tombs. Note that just cause you kill 100+ mobs no key cause a mob in a different area has one so it will never drop for you till it is killed. My NA LS tested and it worked very will on coffer key hunts.

Keys work the same way as NM lotto pop by killing the mobs around the area will spawn the NM. Same thing with the key you need to kill the Mobs that are key holders to spawn a mob with a key to drop.

Yes. random dose play a part but there are ways to up the chances. Papy works the same way. All this as been tested by me and my LS. Hope it helps

I've never tested Koban's theory, but it does make a bit of sense. It could also explain why whenever we camp coffer keys with only one real key camp (such as Castle Oztroja), we never seem to have much problem finding keys, but places like Beadeaux are hit or miss.

Regarding my Eldieme coffer key, we found the coffer on the way to the camp and got the key on the third monster. Two silent oils later we were done. :spin:

I've had a lot of similar luck with that particular camp. When I went the next time to help with a BLM coffer key, we got the key on the 5th monster. It's the one with the Tomb Mages, Tomb Warriors and Spriggan past the Hume Bones. Both times we found the key on a Tomb Mage, although all three are key mobs (including the Ghost-type there, but we avoided those ).

I'll have to test Koban's theory next time we seem to have trouble with a coffer key. If that is the case, than the script must allow more than one coffer key, perhaps like 2 or 3 to spawn at a time. I say this because in Castle Oztroja we got two coffer keys in a row from two Yagudos that had linked. If it had been limited to one key, we could not have gotten the second because the Yags had not yet repopped.

Also, there must be a bit more to it than just finding the right monster, because TH2 seem to have a noticeable effect. On one trip to Toraimorai Canal for SMN AF, we did not find a single key in about 1.5-2 hours. When we came back with one of our thieves for TH2, we found 4 keys in about 35 minutes. This could just be dumb luck, but it seems almost too dramatic a change to be true.

Perhaps when the game is deciding where to place the keys, it distributes several keys but each with a different "chance" of actually dropping when the monster is killed. For example, perhaps it distributes 1 key with a 50% chance of being found on the corpse, another key or two with a 10% chance, and then perhaps a few more with a 1% chance. This could explain why we can sometimes find several in a row. Also, perhaps TH2 increases the chances you will find the key on the corpse to say 90%, 40%, and 10% respectively. This would support the distribution theory and also explain why TH2 seems to have an effect. I'm just using these numbers as an example, but it's the concept that is important.

Anyways, I'd suggest trying the idea Koban said and also having a friendly thief come along if you can find one. Neither could hurt your chances.

Regarding the moon phases, I too have noticed changes in drop rates based not only on lunar phases but also the days of the week. It seems drop rates are best during a full moon and on the day that the monster is weak against. By this theory, the best time for an Eldieme coffer key hunt would be Lightsday during a Full moon. I'll start recording how long it takes us to find various keys in the different zones depending on the lunar phase and day to see if I can get any firm data to support this theory.

In the meantime, I wish you luck!

Interesting info, but which is the best entrance in batalia to get the keys? Any of them?

The south entrance is the best. There are to places that you can drop down where Tomb war/mages spawn. One is the room with four doors this is where most PT's go to camp for keys. The other the far top big room "i think haent been there in awhile" theres a place you fall down a hole also and there are more tomb war/mages there also. We moved after killing all the mobs in one place and moved to the next and got 2 keys in one hr cause thats all we needed at the time.

My LS did coffer key hunts for 8 people in the LS had trouble till we did the way i posted.

This isnt my theory. i got it off a JPN FFXI forum that do test on drops and other things.

Well like i said its all a matter of where the key holder mob has spawned, also some places have more mobs that drops key than others so its a higher drop rate. For Eldieme there are two good camps spots that have the tomb war/mages. If one on the other side has a key the drop rate on the other side is low due to there is one keyholder up already. From my Coffer keys hunts for Eldieme we moved and got keys right way.

Beadeaux Was a pain when we first started. But we move from the bottom camp to top camp with 4 doors and keys drop 2 in 1hr. We went back the next day and got one in 30mins.

We also tested this on the AF3 pld key Bailey coffer key. We had two PT's ready to start campen to different spots cause moving there is hard. But when we got there was PT there for coffer keys also was there also and got 2 keys in 30mins

Note. We always had a THF in the PT with TH2. This could be luck but before we did this we camped hrs with no drop. After we started moving and killing mobs that drop keys in different spawn places it went fast very fast.

didn't read all the replies but my experience with this camp is the suck. i started at around lvl 53, then kept at it in between lvls till i am now 60! still no key. spent a whole day once with just 4 people and no keys, we even went way back in and fought spriggans and tomb warriors in this tunnel some where. and i have to say this coffer is the worst. and im not going to bother with it. at least till i can solo the damn things. its too much trouble

We entered Eldieme from the southeast corner of Batallia, hit a switch to open a door in the southern central part of the map, fell through a hole in the center of the map where there's a large pile of bones, then headed east past where there was a "Hume Bones" (killing our way through Liches and Fallen Officers) until we found a nice little mound in a tunnel way heading north that goes out to the exit back into Batallia. We camped on the mound. Tomb Warriors and Tomb Mages pop around that area and also in the tunnels to the north. We had a level 62-63 Summoner in our party that would Sneak himself and then send Carbuncle in to pull some Tomb Warriors and Tomb Mages without aggroing, linking, or adding anything else.

There are 2 spawn places for tomb war/mages your only going to one if you take the middle hole. This is not the best way to get the keys"We had the same problem camping this spot". You must move to the other spawn place"once we did this the keys droped in no time". As i noted the JPN tested this and to me and my LS it works. Campen one spot killing the same mobs over and over just dosent work.

I think i said all i can help you out here you can try it or not but to me it works. We havent had trouble getting a coffer keys since we started this for any one in are LS. Did this with 3 places for coffer keys and it worked wonders.

By the way Koban, I only refered to it as "yours" because you presented it and there wasn't really any better way to reference it.

Haven't had a chance to try it yet myself, but several LS members are just about to hit coffer-hunting levels, so I'll be able to try it out soon.

Would someone mind providing directions to both camp spots and a way to go back and forth between the two easily? o_o I'm... "special" when it comes to getting around places. bside gave really good directions here , is that how you get to both spots?

I dont know how to give really good directions other than one spot to fall is 6-G just run till you find the ledge to camp on and the other hole to fall is 8-G the hole you wanna fall in is the left hole"i think havent been there for awhile" if you go in from the right side of the room believe this is the big room at the very top of the map same thng run till you see the ledge.

The guy that gave directions in the post your asking about is only one of the spots. That camp spot is the most common one that PT's spend hours and hours at "that i noticed". The other one is 8-G fall down a hole same thing all need sneak.

Both camp spots have a ledge to camp on both look the same.

                              hope this helps
