  • Casting spells?

Is it just me, or are there a lot of Paladins who are forgetting that they have a little thing called magic? I have partied with great PLDs in the past. (who used Flash at the beginning of fights, healed themselves and others when needed to keep up hate) Recently, I've partied with PLDs who almost never cast. Now that I have Refresh, I'm starting to wonder if giving PLDs Refresh is even worthwhile since they don't cast enough for the spell to make a difference.

I've partied with PLDs who wouldn't cast Cures during battles. I know there's a chance to get interrupted, but when your HP is in the red from a Exoray's special attack, why not at least try to save your ass instead of whining at the mages when they're a second too late or already in the middle of casting something else?

I know I'm not a PLD, I've never played the job, (although I plan to try it out) but I can see the use of using spells, even is PLDs have cruddy MP pools. Taking some stress off the WHM by curing yourself or others is very useful. I'm sure many of the people here are experienced and know how to use their MP effectively to hold hate, and I just hope some of these other PLDs catch on and learn how to do their job better.

Wow, level 40+ against exorays and not casting. o.o I wonder who powerlevelled him through 30 levels of a basic job and 40 of pld.

Plds can't not cast and keep hate efficiently (save using all your job abilities in one fight) in the long run. As you get higher plds need to use magic, it's just not possible without. :dead: I think the majority of plds will know they need to cast sooner or later, it's an added challenge casting in the middle of an enemy's attacks but that's far more doable than holding hate without magic

trying to cast cure can be a pain in the ass. as a pld, you just have to learn the timing of the mob, or hopefully it had slow cast on it.

the easiest way for me to get off a cure is i start cast just as the mob takes a swing, or his hit connects, that usually gives me enough time to get the spell fired off, even if the damage it does as it hits me next is greater than the heal... it usually gives me just enough life for a whm to get cure cast on me.

BUT on a side note, as long as the pld is doing his job right, then the pld SHOULD be for the most part the only one that NEEDS cure the entire battle, except maybe the puller just as the battle starts...

there have been manytimes that the puller makes it back without taking a hit, i am voking it to me, casting flash, bashing, sentinal and a cure 3, then all that has to happen is the whmm keeps me alive, and i voke every 30 and flash every 45. as long as the rdm keeps me freshed, the pt should be good to go.

i SAY all that to bring up THIS point.

As a redmage with refresh, you should TELL the paladin to cast. tell him he HAS to cast spells, and you will keep his MP up.

the 2-3 mp regen every 3 seconds for two minutes almost completely refills my MP. I always ask the rdm to cast it on me at the start of the fight, after my first round of flash and cure3, then again towards the end of the fight, just to get me as close to full for the next battle.

If your paladins aren't casting, step forward and tell them to do their job

Skywise: Death due to S-E not likeing my cc for some reason after taking it for more than a year:

Now playing: Skywize- Back to being a PLD. Its good to be back :D

i dunno maybe they're worried about downtime. i can see why some pld's wouldnt cast as much as i do, but thats only cuz i cast a lot. but i'm lvl 35 with 201 mana (hume+32 mana hume rse leggins+8 devotees mittens+9 holy phial). but if these someone who can refresh in the party like you for instance or a bard, the should definitely cast a lot. even without any refresh, more casting=more hate and less hate on the whm. i still have 2 levels til i can get flash but because i have 45 mnd and a lot of mp, i havent had any problems with hate control. never really had many problems before i got all this gear either. but thats mostly because a cast a lot. provoking every 30 just isnt enough. they'll find out they need to cast real fast if they play with a good taru ranger. played with one earlier tonight, just about the only time i realy had to worry about hate because of the massive damage output and low ability to take damage.

just tell them "why dont you stop being a war and do some real tanking. theres a reason you have white magic."

If you encounter non casting pld's, ask them to cast more and let them know you will keep them refreshed.

I always cast and alter the frequency by the support classes available. Bad and a Redmage mean I am constantly casting and not resting to keep tp for extra damage and participation in renkei.

I find that when I am having trouble casting on a non slowwed mob, I try to anticipate the next attack and cast just beforee it. if you get hit early into the casting process you won't be interupted. the Cure line is one of the most important hate control abilities simply because they don't have a refresh timer.

It's important to help educate people as so how to interact with your own abilities such as refresh. Try to word it in a way as not to offend anyone, I notice a lot of people have real issues with criticism in MMORPG's. So the sweeter the medicine, the more likely it will work.
