Which Weapon would be more FUN?

I know that one-handed sword and shield is probably the best combination in parties for PLD
I'm guessing that both Spear and GSword will have about the same effectiveness..but do any of u with experience with both Spear and GSword know which would be more fun? If i use a lance I don't want to be missing almost every other hit, but are there any "interesting" WS for GSWORD

(I was thinking would it work decently if, for example, in one fight i use sword/shield and shield bash the enemy. Then in the next fight i switch to a GreatSword or a Lance. Correct me if im wrong)

I dont play PLD as main job, but i have used both GS and Spear. I like spear better personally, but i like to poke things with a big pointy stick . You can always switch weapons after shield bash and such if you want to do that before switching. Most parties will probably complain though. Usually GS and Spear/Lance are used while farming for fun, not while in a party. But i think Spear/Lance is more fun

Paladin's excell at using the sword & shield combination. A paladin without them has dropped his or her effectiveness as a tank, in my opinion. Loosing the ability of Shield Bash will lessen your ability to hold aggro.

Although, I suppose it is possible to switch weapons between battles during Shield bash downtime. Possible, but inconvienant. Not to mention you loose your TP every time you decide to switch. Be prepared to get shit from party members if you decide to do this.

Basically, it's like a white mage saying, "I've capped my skill level for healing magic, I'm going to stop curing now."

Spears, great swords and daggers are great farming weapons and lots of fun. For Exp parties, sword and shield all the way.

I used to be an avid spear lover, but now the uses are really going down. There are still certain areas I use spear, but it's getting *really* hard to level, because the monsters that give me skill ups have too much evade for me to hit. (the level of the monster depends on the level of your job when you would get the weapon level... so it's much harder to raise an E rating weapon like spear than an A rating weapon like 1h sword) The only times I use spear now are against very low level monsters.. otherwise, the low attack of the spear (due to low weapon level, only 160) makes my attacks subpar, and my pentathrust does less than vorpal blade (though it does give more TP back).

I want to find a new weapon as well for non-XP events, but I just really dislike great sword It has no good WS comparable to vorpal, guillotine, penta, blade:ku, etc until, maybe, level 67 when we can use Spinning Slash. But up to then, there are no good GS WS's (Sickle Moon does about same damage as Vorpal blade, and gives back less tp because it's only 2 hits).

Oh well, I'm going to try raising my dagger and great sword skills anyway, so I'll let you know how that goes... if anyone cares

Oh, and for XP PT... never ever use spear. You will almost never hit due to E skill rating and low weapon skill. Great Sword you will hit more often, but lose your ability to shield block and shield bash (as well as less DEF and no stat bonuses). Another bad thing about GS is that you swing less often, so the enmity+8 from AF kicks in less often. Still, Bruce has said that he can use it in certain situations in XP PT, so maybe he can clarify... as for me and most other PLDs I have talked to, I have never found it useful in XP PT. Gsword for when you're not primary tank all the way. It's one of the highest skill level weapons we have and does fair damage. Most of the WS for it suck which makes up for the fact it has one of the best WS' below the 125 skill mark IMO (Power Slash).

I still stick with Sword/Shield or Club/SHield for primary though.
