  • Physical Earrings?

The other day I was leveling my WHM in Valkurm, and someone left our party leaving us with WHM BLM WAR WAR THF (having trouble keeping up with heals because we were fighting mostly goblins). I said we should invite a mage, but the other members wanted to invite a PLD because they can tank and heal.

So I invite a PLD12/WAR6 (Hume) from La Theine, and when he comes in-area, I wonder if there is some sort of bug when I see his hp/mp... he has 6 mp and the bar is all the way full.

Finally he reaches the party (at least he has full scale) and I check him, wanting to see why he has no MP. He is wearing 2x Physical Earring (Converts 25 MP to HP).

Was this PLD crazy, or is there something I don't understand? With 50 more MP he could have healed himself for at least 100 more HP, and helped maintain hate while he did it. And that's not even counting the ability to help the main healer with between-battle heals and cut down on downtime.

Instead, I'm practically the only healer (the BLM has WHM sub, but with such low healing skill can practically only heal herself and *maybe* one other person between battles - and has to nuke a lot because we have three tanks and a sub-15 THF, plus taking a share of enfeebles), having to heal the PLD and all the other melee between battles before I sit.

I admit that we didn't have enough mages (and the next time I'm leader, if we need a mage, I'm inviting one - two WAR is enough tanks). But still, it seems that this PLD wasn't contributing what he could have been. I'm not a PLD myself, though, which is why I'm asking here. Do you really think it's a good idea for a PLD to wear MP->HP converting equipment that converts his entire MP pool?

I'm thinking of getting a pair for my Taru PLD though.. The other day I had a Elvaan WHM, he had 1 HP more than me and I had 1 MP more than him. >.> And most probably I'm gonna stick to it till I get to use cure 3.

I can see why a Taru paladin might want them (since they have huge MP reserves but could really use the HP), but for any other race... white magic is a very important part of being a paladin, and crippling one's limited MP pool seems foolish to me...

Jesus Christ, damn new age hippies.
They want to SEE the HP, not have about 300 More from MP ;\.
I would kill for 50 more MP...

I was a foolish pld at those levels, I had 2 physical earrings and my hp was definatly pumped, I was fresh off war so you can understand why I didnt really care about the mp loss (I eventually realized my mistake).

But I also belived I couldnt do much with dinky old regular cure, and at those levels our mp was alredy low, I could barely pull of a few good cures and those would do nothing for the agro because before the creature even noticed my curing I had alredy went oom. But I definatly tossed em when I realized the potenial of cures.

at that lvl, the idea of "main tank" is really dangerous. little to no difference in terms of defence between jobs, and even races. u should rather spread the damages by having every melee provoking. so wearing 2 of them isn't so stupid.

pld's cure until like lvl 30 is only for means of in-battle backup healing. because as said above, u should rather spread the damage.

and as for "the ability to help the main healer with between-battle heals and cut down on downtime," again, the pld's cure is meant for in-battle backup healing in the low lvl range, and to maintain hate once "main tank" tactics comes in. pld using cure between battles and entering the next battle w/ lower mp is rather "stupid." unless of course, he/she has full mp and Ballad and/or Refresh r still intact, and that he/she has spare mp to heal others without sacrificing the next battle.

btw, if that pld wasn't carrying any juice for mp regen, then that pld is indeed "stupid" not having any ways to use cure in difficult and challenging battles.

Sacrificing your MP for Hp is just wrong for any job. They give you the MP for a reason.

                  haha

That is WRONG on soooo many levels.

1.) Paladin is a Paladin due to heals and tanking.... Without heals a Warrior beats a paladin hands down due to better offensive power.

2.) Curing yourself means the WHM has to cure you less... making it so that the WHM does not gain as much aggro and at this lvl it is heal aggro that is the main problem.

3.) Curing yourself adds to your own aggro as well... making the monster keeping his attacks focused on you... which in turn gives players ONE HP bar to focus on (ignoring Area of Effect attacks)

He completely negated the paladin as his job... he became the crappiest warrior ever.

Why would you lvl to 30 to pick an advanced job... then purchase equip that makes your advanced job worse than the one you started with?

I mean that PLD has no better defense than a WAR.
He/she does less dmg than a warrior making mosters harder to kill... and aggro harder to keep.
He has no ability to do emergency heals
He has no extra ability to bring aggro upon him/herself through heals.

By removing your mana you make the PLD the single worst job you could add to a group.

More HP doesn't mean anything... if you have high enough HPs to avoid being 1-shot killed and have enough HP for 1 or 2 hits on top of that... you are PERFECT.... there is no Complete heal in FF XI... therefore having 10,000,000 HPs means that you are safe... it means nothing else... it doesn't help reduce downtime... it doesn't effect mage effciency... NOTHING... IT HELPS NOTHING.

To decrease downtime in FF XI you can :
1.) Use Regen either HP or MP
                  2.) Raise your tanks DEF
3.) Having mages take turns sitting during combat
4.) Kill mobs faster (if you can still keep aggro on tank with high DEF)

That's it... if you can do those you can speed up your EXP... Increasing HPs just means it takes longer to heal you to full.... or more mana to do the job... it helps no one.
