  • Invincibility: Hate puller?

I know PLD's 2-hour is a great hate puller.... but what are the conditions?

I've heard before say that the monster needs to be targetting you when you use the 2-hour if you want to pull the hate to you. While I doubted this, I'm beggining to think ti's true...

I was a PLD with a DRG and DRK, all lvl23. We were fighting a VT Orc and got linked by another orc. Since I was low on mp, they shared damage for me.

But anyways. The DRK tanks the VT, and he's at 60 hp or so. I provoke, and it doesn't target me. So I use invincibility. It doesn't target me. I use Cure II, it doesn't target me. I use Cure II again, it doesn't target me. I use Provoke, and THEN it hits me. Basically, invincibility was useless since it wore off 5 seconds after it started attacking me.

How can that happen?? The DRK claims that he simply had too much Hate on himself. I seriously he could have gotten that much Hate. Easpcially since he's got THF sub, with not Provoke.

    Any explanations??

Normally 1 provoke won't put you high up enough on the mob's hate list for the next invincible to work, IF the fight has been dragging on for forever and the drk has been tanking the whole time. The longer the fight, the more hate has been built up on the drk. Similarly there was once when we had an oddly long fight which I tanked from the start, that went on for years and when the whm used benediction the monster was still on me.

Nowadays if we have an add I have a separate provoke macro for the add so I tank both until we finish one off.

In your case you could have provoked, dropped cures (to help the drk's faltering hp) and some WS on the mob, and then invincible.

Invincible is not a 'guaranteed' hate-puller. There have been occasions when the whm/crazy-damage-dealer-who-hits-like-there's-no-tomorrow manages to take the mob away from me even after I use it. However it is still a very useful tool.

This does seem like a logical explanation...but the reason why I am not convinced by this is that as you get hit, you Hate value goes down. Especially since he was a DRK, I doubt that he could have gotten that high in Hate while he was getting hit, thus lowered in his Hate value.

The only other explanation I could see though, is that since Mithra's CHR is low, Invincibility might not be so effective for me...
