Speed Paladin

I know paladins are slow tanks. I know they are meant to draw enemy fire and sustain damage. BUT!!!! because I wanted yall's opinion, What would be the best job combo that would up the Paladin's Speed significantly...

The only time paladins should solo is thru the level 1-10 rush... During that time I am gonna sub Whm for extra mana and then I am gonna switch back to war for Provoke... That is the ONLY time you should have a different subjob...

But what do you mean by speed? 1h Swords are speedy enough and Paladins aren't supposed to run fast or anything like that...

Avenger, I know you are trying to be helpful, but beware of giving misinformation since you haven't even experienced the job yet. Much of your advice here is a bit incorrect, even though I know you only mean well.

As to the original question, I am quite unsure of what you mean by PLD's being slow. They kill slowly, but that is only because their damage output is low compared to DRK, RNG, SAM, DRG and even WAR (because of Double Attack and Attack Up trait). Even THF with high dex and viper bite can probably kill faster than PLD solo, assuming the monster doesn't aggro (for sneak attack).

However, a good solo subjob for PLD is THF. Much like I showed in the other thread, PLD/THF is better than PLD/WAR in every single aspect except that the /WAR has provoke. WAR and PLD's defense up trait do not stack, and /WAR only has 2-3 more vit than /THF (equates to 1 defense difference) and very slightly more hp. On the other hand, /THF has evasion bonus (NOTICEABLE difference here), higher AGI and some other stats, Sneak Attack (handy for a free critical to start the fight), Gilfinder and Treasure Hunter (these are a must have for solo gilfarming).

Also, my PLD soloed *EXTREMELY* easily til around level 15 or 16... I don't remember what sub I had, because it doesn't really matter at that level. I was soloing even match and T gobs in highlands, then sheep, using some good equipment (Bee Spatha+1 is rather helpful and not too expensive). Basically, once you hit level 10 and can use Protect, Scale armor, etc, you can solo extremely effectively. Then go to Dunes around 15 or 16 to fight Snippers, Flies, and Gobs for some nice exp.

As for killing faster, you can use a Great Sword if you like... once you cap the skill level for your job level, you will probably do more Damage over Time than with 1hs/shield. However, you will also lose a lot of defensive capability since a shield gives more DEF and allows you to block attacks with shield. Shield blocking occurs a lot for PLDs since we have A+ in that skill. Oh, you also lose the ability to Shield Bash, which is an extremely handy move to use against Gobs readying a Bomb Toss.

Well all I know is that I am leveling up form sandoria and for me it was much faster to party up in once I hit La tiene but yes I forgot about the curing... but ya I guess I am out of place... sorry....
