  • paladins, sub jobs, and pvp

Squar-enix has already announced that pvp will be released in the near future. with this in mind people might start building pvp characters that wouldn't be great in groups but would rule in pvp. I think with the paladins heals, high def and hp they would be a good class in pvp. The only thing lacking is their attack. Maybe instead of subbing a warrior for provoke in groups people might try subbing more dmg dealing classes that would still have defense.

A paladin/ blkmage wouldnt be too good because the paladin would use all their mp on heals.

A redmage however would give the paladin more defense with protectve magic (making up for the passive defense skills lost when subbing war), more heals and the option to use some decant blk magic spells.

Another combo that might be good is the paladin/ drk. Although this combo would be hated for groups, but in dueling other players it might be useful. It has the combination of high defense of the paladin with the better dmg and attacks from the drk night.

A paladin whitemage might also be a good sub with the extra heals which might make up for the lack of dmg.

What do you think would be the best pvp combo for paly and how do you think it would compare with other classes.

I think everybody would choose Samurai as their sub, mainly for the Weaponskills and meditate stuff. Paladins would rule since they have Invincible, but then again, Ninjas have that kamikaze stuff.

umm subbing drk/pal or pal/drk is just horrible because a pal doesnt need str he needs vit and also if u had low str why work on improving that when it is still gonna be useless...should just raise the stats that you are good with.

This all depends on how PvP is implemented. If its team oriented most of the group mechanics will stay the same, with a few variations since 'hate' isn't there in PvP (eliminating factors like Provoke and the hate-transfer of yokodama--plus rangers and dark knights wouldn't have to hold back).

Teamwork would still be important. A well balanced team with like a PLD, DRK, RNG, WHM, RDM, BRD would destroy a team of 6 DRK. During Everquest's best-of-the-best tournaments the teams that did the best were well-rounded.

How player against player resists are implemented is going to be a big factor. If 90% of spells stick against other players then casters will have a big role in PvP. If only 10% of spells stick against other players, offensive casters are going to be non-existant in PvP situations.

I see Paladins doing well in PvP. Sure, Paladin damage is lame but they'd be a beast to bring down and in group-PvP they could help heal others that can do more damage.

I don't think I'd stick with warrior for PvP situations as a Paladin. Provoke would be useless and many of the good warrior skills don't come until later (like double attack being level 50 for a PLD/WAR). If its group PvP then a PLD/WHM would have a lot to offer being both hardy (healers tend to be a big target in PvP) and a decent healer. If its not group PvP I'm not sure what I'd sub, I'd probably see how it plays out.

Yeah I'd see most people usbbinb monk since warrior skills are pretty useless in PVP
