Taru PLD/WHM?

Eventually I want to be a good tank. If I went PLD/WHM would that stick me in the category of mage since there arent too many whms out there or would I still be tank someone help me out

PLD/WHM is primarily a combo we might use for soloing, or playing with undead... In a group probably noone would want you. PLD/WAR is really the only combo people will want you to be if you are a PLD mainjob.

For paladin, PLD/WAR is must have combo even for Tarutarus.. If you don't have enough time to train three job (PLD, WAR, WHM ), you can omit WHM. But if you would like to be good Paladin, I'd recomend to train WHM, either besides WAR. PLD/WHM is in short of hate genaration ability and less defense than WAR subjob, so you cannot role as tank. But depending on you party member and your mobs, PLD/WHM can be tough sub healer.
Merit of PLD/WHM is that you don't have to hesitate to cast curega spell durling combat, so if your mobs have range attack ability to your party, the spell will help your members a lot.
( Main healer WHM/BLM of course can cast curega, but he/she risks targetted by mobs.)

And PLD/WHM can cast sneak and invisibisibilty spell for your solo activities. That helps you to complete many difficult quest and help to seek for treasure coffer like paladin AF armor quest in very dangeraous area..

A Taru PLD/WHM would probably have more MP than a Galka Whitemage. I know that's not saying much, but he could probably be a decent healer for a group. And as Ironplate pointed out, if he accidently draws hate its no big deal.

ran some numbers

I ran some numbers against this, since I already have a leveled whm and no warrior, but still was interested in paladin. I was pretty surprised with the results.

Taru PLD/WHM
@30 - 400h/259m
@50 - 690h/419m
@70 - 980h/579m

Hume WHM/BLM
@30 - 422h/267m
@50 - 707h/432m
@70 - 992h/597m

If you go pld/whm, you have 18 less mana and 12 less health than the hume whm/blm, but gain a huge upgrade in defense, which _should_ mitigate STDS (Sudden Taru Death Syndrome) :sweat: in most situations. With that set of job/subjob you should be able to be an effective healer for the group, if not really that effective a main tank.
