Something I was wondering, would it be possible to draw hate through the amount of hits you make instead of dmg/provoke/etc? I have my reasons for wondering this so plz don't down this.

If I saw a PLD/NIN looking for group I would send him a tell asking him if he would put WAR back on as a subjob before joining the party. If he didn't have a leveled WAR available as a subjob I would not invite him into the group. I'd pick many other jobs over PLD/NIN for damage. If no damage dealers were available at the moment I'd even wait until a better damage dealer was available instead of inviting the PLD/NIN.

I'm a 60 PLD/WAR now and usually not a big fan of the PLD/NIN thing but last night i found out that it does work. I was in a party last night where one of the members in there knew me as a ninja and asked me to sub my ninja instead of my warrior. I thought to myself why the hell does he wants me to do that? maybe blink tanking? o well. The reason is that the thief cant pull off the fuidama trick real well when they start to do their skillchains because i would take too much hate after the first fuidama that the other provoker cant even take the enemy off me. For the longest time i questioned their judgement but gave in at the end. Well, it did made a believer out of me. With just FLASH and my CURE spells plus the fuidama thief thing, i was able to hold down the enemies to myself whenever i want to and when they need to start their skillchains the other guy didnt have a problem gettign the enemy off me for that moment then the thief would do the fuidama on me again at the end of the chain then i would have the enemy to myself again to the end of the fight. hehe i was blink tanking too which really impressed them the most.
Lesson of the story. When you have a THIEF to pass hate on you go ahead and use PLD/NIN - dang it works. If you dont have a thief go for the conventional PLD/WAR.

Agreed, I would grab a War/Monk or Monk/War before a PLD/NIN.
Not to put anyone down for trying to be "different", but level up PT's is not the time to experiment, it's the time to kick ass and get the hell out of there with as much XP per hour as possible.

This is possible, but never on a paladin. A paladin just smacking an enemy will lose attention quickly to one of the higher damage dealing jobs or a healer. Levels 1-30 you might notice it possible for a little while, but after that, you'll start to see the differences in jobs and your sword strikes will mean less and less.
To the other posts:
Much like everyone else said, Warrior or White mage are pretty much your only choices. Provoke is always a good attention grabber at the beginning of the fight, and to maintain the hate on you. When a paladin hits 37(?), they are able to use the spell Flash. I must say this spell is a godsend at pulling hate and every paladin should try his best to get this spell and use it often.55 Thief/war...working on a redmage under the guidance of da great xerlaoth

PLD/NIN is fine for a two PLD party or a heavy THF party. PLD damage isn't THAT bad to be frank. Rather, it's just not insane like DRK, RNG, or DRG and SAM job combos. I'd recommend /war normally just because 90% of people can't cope without a PLD having provoke. WHM is of course the alternative to standard parties.
However, PLD/NIN is an EXCELLENT solo combo. High parry rates coupled with defense, two 1h swords (or two clubs which was a fave of mine at 30 =D), and Healing Factor will allow you to solo a ton of mobs the other classes can't solo at 30-40 very well. Toss in Ninjitsu to help that along and you have a mean machine. PLD/WHM is the only other PLD combo that really is a good solo combo.

I have seen monsters that would hate me more because I've gotten the best accuracy of all the melee in my party at one time
. I'm not so sure about this completely, but the more accurate your hits the more likely the monster will hate you more.
