  • How much of a tank is the paladin?

I know that the paladin has huge natural defensive stats, with subjob of warrior, they have even higher. I was wondering with phalanx cast, how much do they actually get damaged in battles. from what i've read, i understand that this spell drastically increases your defense, and can make even red mages take much more hits.

    Lets put it this way...

Paladin is THE tank That is pretty much the jobs sole purpose. with some minor healing abilities thrown in.

      Totally agree with you Zelld

Throw a PLD/WAR in a PT with a THF that knows Yokodama and you've got the ultimate PLD tank
      Server: Titan
      Country: Bastok
      Race: TaruTaru
      Rank: 6
      Current Job: THF62/WAR31

Let me rephrase the question a little more.... During battle when you have phalanx cast........ How much damage is usually reduced? Is it like a percent damage reduction or does it just REALLY boost your defense? Sosay, Paladin X and Y are the exact same. Paladin X does not have phalanx cast, but Paladin Y does. Paladin X gets hurt 40-50 damage per hit. How much will paladin Y get hurt each hit?

It depends on the enemy that hitttin you, it could be any where from only 10 extra damage to 50....

i think that pld/whm is a better choice, i mean u dont even learn raise as a pld until lv 72, wtf is that! anyways i enjoy fighting but i also like white magic so i think that a pld is one of the best jobs you can have, plus the artifact armor is awesome, and u can hold a real shield, not a friggin wooden dinner plate, bottom line, paladin is awesome, i think its the ideal job for me so im gonna get it in the retail, so i hope that if any wht mages out there are thinking of becoming a summoner, think again pld/whm is the best job in my opinion, in the retail my ls is gonna be for knights only this is for war/pld/drk/drg so if when u get the retail u.s ffxi send me a /tell when u get ur knight job.

#1 nobody asked you about what you think of a PAL/WHM.
#2 how many times must ppl say this. PAL/WAR is the ONLY way to go is you want taunt, which is why you have a PAL to protect ppl not to do damage or anything of the sort. so PAL/WHM is a nono unless you want to be a solo PAL your whole life.:dead:
