Elvaan Or Galka???

Hi guys. Just trying to find out which race is better for PLD. If you could please explain the pros and cons on each race. That would be great. So far i read in the forums that Elvaan have higher MND (which i think lowers the mp cost of white spells correct me if im wrong)MP,and CHM. But Galka has higher VIT,HP,AGI,and INT. So over all which is a better PLD. Also what does CHM do in the game. Thanks in Advance.

A lot of people who want to be PLDs face this dilemma; there's no doubt that Galkas and Elvaans are best suited for this job.

If you want a little more defense, go with Galka. If you want a little more offense, go with Elvaan.

MND actually effects white magic strength. So that would make elvaan paladins better healers. Not enough to carry a group, but say you wanted some attacks directed at yourself, you could certainly heal someone.

Thanks you two for the info. I guess i mite go with Galka because is it not the PLD's job to defend the defendless. Magic is important too but i think defense is more important.

This is just a collection of opinions I gathered while leveling with different types of PLDs. From my perspective I'd say Humes and Elvaans make the best PLDs overall.

Humes don't have the greatest defense but they get a generous amount of MP when compared to Elvaans and Galkas. Elvaans don't get as much MP as Humes, but they still get a decent amount and have more HP and VIT to make up for it. Galkas get a ton of HP and a ton of VIT, but almost no MP at all which is their greatest drawback. Paladins are sort of like back-up healers in PTs which is the reason why they're usually taken out of renkei since they have to heal after battle and lose TP. If you have no MP then you won't be able to fulfill your role as the back-up healer and you lose a valuable way of gaining additional hate as well.

PLDs get CureII at level 17, and it costs 24 MP to cast it. With the Galka's limited MP they can use it once during battle; Elvaans can use it twice with their average amount of MP; Humes can use it thrice (for the sake of statistics, Tarus can use it five times, but Tarus aren't important for this particular thread). Anyway, the MP gap gets wider and wider. If you jump to level 55 where they get CureIV, both the Hume and Elvaan get twice as much MP than the Galka, and the Galka would only be able to use CureIV once as opposed to twice like the Hume and Elvaan. Humes and Elvaans get the upper hand in the hate developing business thanks to their MP tank.

Of course, the Galka can always wear a ton of MP boosting equipment to make up for its weak spot in exchange for defense because they already have a ton. I once PTed with an Elvaan PLD who had an equipment changing macro. Before every battle she would equip full RSE to boost her MP. During battle she would use a certain amount of MP and quickly switch back to her normal tanking armor once she reached her normal max MP limit. It was a pretty interesting way of playing PLD.

That taking hate thing is bullshit. PLD can't take hate for shit. The only thing that keeps shit on the pld is a thf.

And that MND raises healing magic power stuff is bullshit too. Heals are capped by your heal magic skill, and the higher level heals may vary by maybe 5~7 points. Big whoopty-do.
