If you use the same WS then it probably won't be as significant, but DRKs should be WSin' with 2H sword or scythe... only 1H if you need that WS to complete renkei.

PLD really don't hit that hard, and at latter levels hardly participate in renkei since their damage doesn't quite help. They're NOT a boring class though... tanking is very exciting, and it feels good to be able to walk up to a monster and whack it and know you're not gonna die in a single hit... unlike other jobs. Your role is to tank, and be a backup healer.

I don't recommend PLD if what you want is everything, defense and attack... there is nothing you can do about being at the extremes.

One-hand sword weapon skills don't do insane amounts of damage compared to some of the other heavy weapons, but it's still useful when forming renkeis. I personally prefer to use a one-handed sword with a shield over a two-handed sword. Having the shield allows me to block attacks with it from time to time. My damage may not be making much of a difference, but I leave the damage dealing to the other melee players and the casters.

My friend said a RDM with fully skilled up 1hand sword and strenghthining magic casted upon themselfs hits just as hard as his paladin at lvl 63. Even with a high sword grade paladin's do hit quite weak. But their job is to take the damage instead. All pld's ive pt'd with still took part in renkei's.

It's not that they miss all the time (Which can be greatly improved with a dex ring or two) but they don't do anything more than look nice and keep a skillchain going, if your tp can charge fast enough.

The great thing with 1h swordskills is that they're in practically every skillchain. Save for a couple, so your party is gonna ask that you try to be a part. If it's going too slow and you can't keep up, ask them to cut you out somehow.

How does Vorpal Blade stack up compared to many of the other high end weapon skills?

because the pld is a tank, we eat foods to have more def, not atk, and we use defender many of the time, consequesntly redusing our atk. having said that, the normal damage vorpal blade would do against VT and IT mobs is in the range of 50-150. i even once had a damage of 1, yes, one, against the IT mob... not to mention i had several 0 damages, yes, ZERO...

i'd say spirits within would be more useful ws for pld.

The point is that the RDM will have less 1hsword skill than a PLD due to a lower grade. Skill point adds not only attack but also accuracy. So with strengthening enhancements, the RDM may hit just as hard as a PLD, but their accuracy will be much worse. And, no, a dex ring will not help that much. 2 dex = 1 accuracy... not incredibly significant.

As for weapon skills, I noticed something peculiar. My main WS now are Fast Blade and Seraph Blade. I think that SB seems to ignore defense, much like the description of One Inch Punch. Regardless of the monster, a SB at 100% TP will do either 40ish or 85-100ish damage (seems to depend on whether it registers 1 or 2 "hits"). As TP increases, the damage becomes higher... at 200% it is usually 60 or 150. Conversely, FB varies wildly depending on the monster's defense. On IT monsters I fight in xp parties, FB at 100% will do 12 damage or so (SB will do 40 or 85-100). Against lvl 15 goblins and the like, FB at 100% can do 160 damage (SB will do 40 or 85-100).

And to prove the point: I was soloing an elemental in qufim when I was around level 43 or so. All my hits were doing miniscule damage (2-7 damage usually... quite pathetic) and I think FB did like 8 damage. I definitely would have died if it weren't for SB... it consistently dealt around 80 damage, and I managed to kill the elemental with no MP and about 20 HP to spare. *cheer*

You need to use magic to kill elementals, like bogy/banshees, physical damage don't do much on them.

Vorpal is a piece of crap WS on totetote's(IT or what is called on NA i dunt know), so is swift blade and even the new ws. Spirits at 200% or more will do better dmg but like i say, the PT doesent care how much you do as all they care about is that your alive+being hit with only 50-60 damage hopefully and keeping target.

How about Savage Blade? I have seen a lvl 70ish paladin hitting for over 1200 dmg against orcs in devoi (which are obviously worthless to him).
