I'm not trying to claim credit for the idea- nor am I claiming that NIN as DD is in any way efficient- I think that every other DD job will get you more bang for your buck. I'm just saying to the OP- that in theory this is possible, and such a setup would allow him to pursue NIN as simultaneous tank and DD.

EDIT: It was a AoE item in the game, I think it did like 2000 damage to everything on the screen. No matter what the level difference was.

Ninja's need a new job ability that let's them throw any item in the game at any target. Just like in previous FF's. You could smash a Hi-Pot over your DD's heads and it would draw hate like a cureIV! You could bean a mamool in the eye's with a kazham pepper and it would be like casting Burn on them. You could get a Kikoku and throw it in PW's or AV's face and kill them!

Somebody call SE and make it happen.
It'd take too much programming to decipher which item would do what form of damage or status effect to each mob. If Ninja wasn't effected by cost before they were to add this update, then it would definently be afterwards. On a sidenote it would probably cause a spike in the sale of certain items at the AH.

I say we should all just get Rock Candy (Super Mario RPG Reference.)

The game is 6~7 years old now. Unless it is a new mob or job (NIN isn't), it's been tried.

You haven't thought of anything new and there is a reason the idea didn't take off and expense is only part of it. NIN is a better tank then DD.They can (and should) put out damage while tanking, but other jobs have an easy time surpassing NIN's DD ability.

In theory I agree, but this assumes your DDs are holding back on their damage in order to avoid taking hate off the tank, which in turn assumes you have fallen through a time warp into about 2004.

Well, the rarity of the really good surikens is one of the reasons why you don't see many tank nins using them, not to mention the expense. It's cheaper to cast ninjitsu than it is to throw them. There are a few tank nins that use them but its just not the norm. But trying to get parties as a pure DD will often just get you a lot of grief instead of interest.

That was kind of what I had in mind when I was thinking of this- this way your NIN tank isn't just a punching bag- all that damage makes him a decent DD, sure, but it's also functions as another way for the tank to keep hate on himself instead of others.

Just my $0.02 - and maybe I'm way off- but it makes sense to me.

And by boatloads of gil, we mean boatloads of gil. Most jobs cry when they break their wallets to buy a hauby or scorpion harness. As a DD Ninja, you would blow through 20 times that by the time you hit Lv50, and still have to buy the Scorpion Harness.

Nope. The prohibitively expensive part is really the entire thing: if you aren't spending boatloads of gil, you're not doing any real damage on Ninja.

Of course, if you do have boatloads of gil to ship off, Ninja's damage potential really does work as advertized, as far as I've heard . . . O.O
