umm..how do you guys hold aggro? lev32 nin

I was having trouble holding aggro in GC... could it be because i have no buddy voker, blm and rdm dont debuff, blm nuke at start ?

Rng hits hard? evasion from bat's special move??

    this was a bad pt..

i fair decent tanker after i pickup a more experience pt.. but once in a while aggro gets lost..from rng's hit etc.

    any tips??

nin/war so i use berserk whenever i can..etc.. i hojo slow and kura blind etc too..

One trick I found to help with the hate is when theres no THF, I pull with Provoke. By the time I comeback to the camp, my provoke timer is almost unlocked and I can provoke again to get more hate. RNG and BLM also make alot of dmg so its harder to lose hate from them. Don't let RNG pull, they are horrible pullers and the initial attack they make create more hate.

RNG are not horrible pullers, but they are overrated ones. The only good thing going for them is wide scan, but I very rarely use it because it sucks. I'd rate THF as an above-average puller, DRG and MNK as below-average ones, every other job just average (RNG included).

we had a thf pulling... rng was also in pt..

the things about these bats..(same with mandrags) is the double hit..that wipes out 2 copy images.. real fast... cuz they use hi-freq sonic..that lowers evasions.. after this..its tuff to hold aggro..and cast..cuz u have to wait..

Interesting.Actually I like bard pullers the best but that's just me.

Not the job that makes a good puller, its the player.

Its so easy to be poor at it..

Not trying to hijack the thread.. but this is semi-related and I didn't want to start a new topic... what songs to most NIN like to have on them? Madrigal so they can do some damage which equals hate? Or evasion so they don't get hit when their Utsusemi is down? Or Advancing March (haste) so the casting of Utsusemi is faster? And does prelude help if you using throwing items to build hate?

Unfortuantly of the NIN's I've PTed with to date .. none have used throwing items .. and none have requested which songs they think helps them best. So I'm left to my best judgement... which is never a good thing ;-).

until recently i hardly pt with NIN with my brd... but one JP nin /war tank just ask for madrigal and minuet as his main songs..i think just hitting it will retain aggro and minuet damage adds to it

but i think ti really depends on ur pt setup..

if you have class they needs dex/speed..then use madrigal and march... like if ur pt consist of rng, thf, mnk, pld, war combo..

if a drk or drg is in the mix..maybe use mad/minuet if drk uses GS mabye use march as well to gain tp faster for renkei

my set pt (level 68-70) i use madgrial and march now.. and prelude on RNG

Well as NIN/WAR using your abilities can help. Putting up Utsusumei to avoid the hits then provoking ofcourse, your damage that you do at most is going to be a little amount of boost to the hate since hate is lost as time goes by. The biggest key is avoiding as much damage as possible.

So using Beserk and Defender right in the battles should help to add more hate, timed right you should be able to do something were you are Provoking, Beserk, something else, Provoke, then latter on when beserk is close to running it's course or need a little extra to help hold hate using Defender or something at that point to help hold it.

In the end the idea is use abilities, throwing items, and ninjitsu to build your hate while trying to keep Utsusumei up as often as possible so that the abilities and stuff you are using is adding more hate faster then time can reduce and faster then a monster's hit when it does get you reduces it.

I know haste increases the speed that the timer on JAs count down. If the march line of brd songs act the same way it could help NINs hold hate.

I am in a set with a bard, personally I like to have evasion up and accuracy up. If the mob is missing me enough so that I don't feel I need evasion then I ask for attack up.

Bard haste song does not seem to affect spell recast times, just attack speed (I could be wrong on this). I find that having the rdm cast haste is better.

Shurikens for holding hate imo are over rated, I do fine with just the ni line of elementals and debuffs and consistant damage from my katanas.

At low levels it is difficult to hold hate against a ranger that pulls with /ra then shoots the mob again as soon as he arrives, at that time it is usually too much hate to get back with a provoke and the ichi line of elementals/debuffs is painfully slow to cast. Unfortunatly if the mob doesn't give you the time of day after a voke, then your best bet is to try and spam those spells as fast as you can.

Best thing to do is to ask the rng to refrain from shooting again until you hit it at least a few times after your voke. (The rng should know to do that regardless if it is a pld, war or nin tanking)

Once you get to lvl 40 then things get much easier.

I had a party today in CN which was... balls to the wall to say the least. nin/war/rdm/rdm/rng/rng. The rangers were /nin and the warrior was as well and one rdm had to leave... the rdm we had was feeling bold and the summoner we invited got a bcnm invite and the 3rd ranger we invited turned us down so we ended up getting a drk. this was a 39-40 pt that went to 40-41.

Souleater killed me at one point but on the whole my setup so far is to engage/provoke/jubaku and then watch shadows. Casting some elementals like Hyoton helps and using berserk to counter a souleater does as well. WS is nice but I like to save a Retsu for when para just won't stick. Barrage will own you sometimes but if the ranger is /nin you have some time before voke is refreshed. It's a good idea to have a sit down about Barrage too before you start... and Souleater for that matter.

I have Kote and eat Navarin so that definitely made things a bit easier but on the whole just play with what you've got. Things change bigtime at 37 and 40... in all honesty from 32-37 i mostly played Viper Bite bitch.
