    hi guys.

currently i am a lvl 26 THF. and am having a really big struggle...
my insperation for getting FFxi was to be a ninja, now i have heard that ninjas make the best tanks with war sub and ive been a tank on EQ for 4 years so im good at tanking. my question is is a ninja tank like other tanks? whats diffrent about a ninja tank as opposed to a PLD tank?

or should i just not bother with the whole thing and stay a THF btw my warrior is 17... donno if that matters any

    thanks guys

this is your first time up to 30, right?
i wholeheartedly recommend that you do NOT make ninja your main job for now, but stick with thief. ninja is constantly eating "ammo" for his ninjutsu which will really rip into your gil supply if you aren't prepared (just a blatant generalization, unless you've found a wonderful way to make money which will support you ~20-30k per day and pay for equipment upgrades as well, then you're far ahead of the game).

thf requires a grip of strategy and reflexes, as well as communication with your PT. However, it's much less reliant on pure gil to be a "good" thief. Later on, when you are rich as hell, you can come back and be a godly nin/war :3

as to how ninja tanks...it's much more impressive to watch one, than to hear it described. you'll come across a nin tank sooner or later~

whatever you choose to do, good luck!

personally I feel that PLD make the best overall tanks in terms of hate management but it really depends on the player and the party makeup. I have yet to find a NIN that can hold hate for my RNG, but the PLD in my static PT has no issues at all and I can fire arrows happily. I like having 2 ninjas in a PT when I level my NIN because they can blink off each other and save on mana which keeps you xp chaining

I hope i got everything down, i have had a PLD tank for my PTs as a rdm from low levels till around 50 when i was reintroduced to NIN tanks and then became one.

PLD tank is more of a hit taker and cures him/herself.
NIN doesnt take hits, but dishes them out.

Nin evade attacks, parrys attacks, and shadows absorb attacks/magic/TP attack and just constantly builds up hate with very little loss.

Pld gets hit and has to make up for that hate loss so their tools are build for fast grabbing hate FAST and keeping it.

They are totally different jobs that work differently but acheive the same goal. As for limits, these are one of the main factors in limitation exp wise:

Pld rely on a limited MP pool
        Nin rely on their wallet

As for race i wont get into that since i am biased on what race i want tanking for me as a rdm (i prefer taru or galka PLD only, and hume, mithra, or elvaan NIN but i take what i can at times).

PLD/WAR has at end game Lv75
        cures1-4 -heals and generates hate
flash -powerful blind that lasts a short duration
sheild bash -genterates hate and a chance to stun target i think
provoke (with sub) -increases Hate spike
Holy circle -More protection agains the undead(?)
defender (with sub) -improves def and it may generate hate
sentinel -increases your def and may generate hate
parry -stops an enemy attack with your sword. no hate loss here
sheild -same as parry, both take no damage
cover -you take damage inplace of a party member
rampart -raises party def for a short time. may generate hate
warcry -raises party attack for a short time. may generate hate
berserk- DECREASES defense and raises attack (dont use lol)

NIN/WAR has at end game Lv75
        Provoke -hate spike
        Shuriken -high damage, low delay
Warcry -increased party damage for a short time
Berserk -increases attack for a while
Defender -increases defense for a while
Ninjutsu (alot of tools used to keep hate, keep you safe, stealth, debuff, and enfeeble the mob)
        Enfeebles:
kurayami -ichi=blind ni=super blind which lasts the whole battle
Hojo -ichi=slow ni=Super slow lasts a long time )best slow ever)
        Jabuku -paralyze

Elemental debuffs (they reduce resistance to certain magic attack)
Hyoton -ice attack that lowers fire resistance
Huton -wind attack that lowers ice resistance
Doton -earth attack that lowers wind resistance
Suiton -water attack that lowers lightning resistance
Raiton -thunder attack that lowers earth resistance
Katon -fire attack that lowers water resistance

        Stealth:
Tonko -invisible ichi=short time ni= long time

Utsusemi ichi and ni generates hate when you have hate and are used for tanking because they negate attacks wether it be physical, TP, Some AoE and magical (except GA stuff) attack and can be cycled to create a state of 'invinsibility' untill it wears off or something takes it off (dispel cant dispelga idk) or you run into a big problem.

Ni versions are more powerful and have better effects and all but tonko generate hate wether it be little or alot.

NIN is the most challenging tank to play and has poor def so getting hit is not an option (not a good one anyway lol).

Main defense: Nin use evade, parry, utsusemi as a means to stay safe and other methods to keep the mob fixated on them and compliment their abilities and stats. This job takes money to play so your using money to level.

Downtime: You will need alof of tools and since MP is not an issue for nin and they rarely get hit, downtime is VERY VERY VERY minimal unless something goes wrong with your timer then you had better throw on defender and time your utsusemi again.

        -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PLD is challenging at times, but a much easier tank to play than the others and has the best def in the game no arguement.

Main defense: PLD uses parry, and sheild to defend himself as well as high DEF and restore HP lost with cures and other abilities to keep themselves safe and to keep the mob from looking elsewhere.

Downtime: You need to make sure you know how to use MP or else your looking at a good amount of downtime even with refresh (pld have a fairly small MP meter and cures take up alot of MP if not used properly and not refreshed) and you'lll need help from other healers as well.

i wont mention the passive abilities cause they are easy to look up and nin and pld share many of them because of the /war side of them. As for their 2hours, they can be used in any way or means.

Pld 2hour - Invinsible - Overwrites hate and takes hate IF there is any hate gained between them and the mobs in question from what i have seen and have been taught. It makes the PLD invinisble from ONLY physical attacks so that means a holy would do damage to a PLD (from what i read and seen) You have 30 secs to get what you need done before this is over and it is usefull or recomended to use when a whm uses their 2hour.
Its also great for holding off mobs while your blm, whm, or rdm escapes or teleports.

Nin 2hour - Mijin Gakure - At first i thought this was usless to the party till i had an instance where my PT got in trouble and i held then down till they were close to the zone then blew up on the mob taking him down to low health since its firebased. It has its many uses like soloing. You can run into trouble soloing and use this ability to get out of trouble (die lol) with NO LOSS OF EXP AT ALL. The lower your health, the lower the damage and at higher levels it does more damage (probably HP and level related) You can hold off enemies for a while till your party escapes or teleports and wether your with them or not you dont need to worry about exp loss unless your 2hour isnt ready

There are many uses for these 2hours but its up to the users imagination and moment of trouble.

I hope i didnt mess up anywhere in here, this is just common info, stats, and experience with NIN and PLD.
