  • Partying with a rdm

    Hello all,

    I am a lvl 54 rdm in nead of some advice from the ninja's. I have just set up a static party on my server with some friends and for the first time i am acually playing with a nin tank.

    My question is basically about debuffs, which debuffs do you normally want the rdm to use and in what order?

    Also are nin debuffs more effective? (namely slow and blind)

    my normal debuffing order before I played with a nin tank was

    gravity -> slow -> paralyze -> dia2 -> blind blind was always the last because i am used to having a pld and flash overwrights it.

    Since i have had a nin tank i changed up a little to the following

    slow -> gravity -> blind -> paralyze -> dia2

    I know that slow is important to a blink tank, now my tank is doing slow and blind on every mob as well but it seems if his sticks first i get the "has no effect" message, if mine sticks first will nin slow overwright it?

    Any info you guys could provide would be nice

    Thank you in advance

    ninja's second grade spells will overwrite rdm debuffs. slow and bind also *seem* to be more effective than color magic counterparts, but don't take my word for it :X

    i usually try to express to mages to make paralyze a high priority, since Jubaku:Ni (nin's 2nd grade paralyze) isn't implemented yet. i really like that you put gravity first, my absolute favorite rdm spell.

    i...can't really think of much to improve on your debuff order... it looks like you're doing a really kickass job ^^b

      Hojo and Kurayama ( slow and blind ) are the only ni debuffs a nin gets and so most only use those two. ( with capped ninjutsu and macro the AF headpiece in/out they rarely fail to stick so rdm casting as well is a little wasted ).

      I really like it when the rdm does Paralyze first so I have a little longer to cast my debuffs etc.

      Paralyze->Dia2->Gravity would be my preferred order

        i was kicking out gravity first because we were fighting beetles and there high evasion ; . ;

        Also gravity has a 60 sec recast time so if it doesnt stick or wears off fast i want it back asap

            Gravity is a good opening spell for red mages when partying with ninjas. I do my own blind/slow/paralyze at the start ,so my expectations are for the RDM to pay attention if one of them doesnt stick and backup enfeeble. Not paying attention and attempting all enfeebles anyway doesnt hurt either :p

            I expect RDM to haste/refresh/MB and occasionally spot heal more than anything, because I dont have WHM in my parties usually :sweat:

              oddly in our static i never cast hast ;.; our whm hastes everyone and never has less mp than myself.

              since we generally dont have a blm i kinda fill in that roll.

              Now though i will have more time to haste since this thread.

              I normally run filters in chat so i my debuffs are resisted nothing comes up in chat log, if they land however i do get notification. i was all in a panic because apperently this effect the "has no effect" message from poping up too.

              I couldnt figure for the life of me why all of a sudden slow and blind wouldnt stick anymore and was freaking out i must have cast slow like 10 times one fight, until finally i asked the nin if his landed.

              but anyhow i think now i need to play with my filters so i can see for sure if his debuffs land.

              As for elegy stacking i know it does with the slow spell no clue about ninjitsu

                Always haste a tank at the begginning of each battle. Haste and NIN are like love buddies :p

                  first time i seen my debuffs not landing i spend a good part of battle retrying the same resisted debuffs in between refreshing healing and debuffing and i got fustrated. Turns out the nin stuff just made mine look like childsplay so dont freak out if blind or slow doesnt land, or even paralyze for that matter. Heres the order i ask:

                  Gravity> Haste > Dia or Bio > (if i dont cast these then)paralyze > Slow > Whatever you want

                  Haste is important because it speeds up our Utsusemi timer. Even tho utsusemi: ni is like a 1sec cast its the utsusemi: ichi and elemental debuffs that we need speeded up as well as voke.

                    My set partys tank is a Ninja as well, and I've managed to figure out a good set of debuffs. At the opening of the fight, I do Paralyze>Slow>Gravity. I start with paralyze first, because any time the target is unable to strike is one more shadow that the tank retains. Slow comes next to keep it from hitting as frequently, thus retaining more shadows, and gravity to keep it from evading attacks. I don't cast blind, as I let our blm do that, and the whm casts Dia II (gotta let them level enfeebling a bit of course ^^)

                    Essentials for ninja, debuff wise, is whatever keeps them from losing shadows. Paralyze, slow and blind fall firmly under this category.

                    If anything, *don't* have the ninja lead off with a debuff. Have things firmly set so that you know when you are casting, and what you are casting. Let the ninja use his provoke and then get ready to build hate with his own debuffs. By the time you've run through yours, he can go to his. Time it right and each fight you'll find he loses many fewer shadows and things will go much faster. We've had our fights timed like this ever since level 45, and its made a *huge* difference for us.

                    Good luck with having a ninja tank! A good blink tank is a sight to behold indeed ^^-b

                    At the endgame, I had: Full AF for RDM, RNG and NIN. Sky, Clothcraft 97, smithing 45 and far too much gil. My Jobs ended at RDM 75, NIN 65, RNG 59, BLM 37, WAR 33 and SMN 26. Finally, I synthed a Royal Cloak /signed/ for a friend.

                    Time to move on.

                    See you all on the flip side (*'-')/
