well a sword has better damage and weapon skills so i would use sword in the first hand and a silence katana (i forgot the name) in the other hand. around level 30 katanas start getting alot better.

As a NIN since you replace the PAL having a Sword skill up to date is very handy since you fit right into skillchains.
EG, popular early L2 chain is red lotus >> combo for Fusion, you want the low damage melee to start the chain so PAL starts up Red Lotus. As a NIN with Sword you can easily fit into that chain.

I keep sword/dagger and (obviously) katana maxxed.
I have never been asked to use to use sword in a skillchain so far.
Blade:retsu is pretty much our staple weaponskill for chains for a long time because you will be the ending ws in a distortion chain and you can cast Hyoton:Ni fast enough to magic burst for more hate.
Once THF are at the level to viper bite I ended up doing alot of Blade:Rin -> SA+TA Viper Bite (distortion again).
Those two skillchain are what I have done 95% of the time in PTs so far
Being flexible in what weapons you can use decently is always good though and worth putting in your search comments.
