  • Leveling parrying..

Having a fully capped parrying level would be really nice. But its got to be one of the toughest things to level. Since my Evasion gets so much excersize thats no problem at all, but do any of you with some experience have any suggestions on how to reliably level this combat skill on the side? I don't want to equip two parrying dagger's at this point in a real pt (If only they were a bit stronger..)

I was thinking of asking someone if they'd acompany me as I equip two Parrying dagger's, and initiate combat with an enemy and instead of fight, untarget and face the opposite direction so the enemy can try to hit me, and maybe that +20 parrying will help it take effect to level it more often. Would that work?

Best way i know is level PLD up also...your Shield and Parry will constantly be capped since youll be taking so many hits.

You can also equip some +Attack -Evasion items so you dont dodge so much and -AGI items.

+302 lvls gained (not including the -20 for purposely deleveling BRD to 45)

If you havent played BST past 35, you havent played BST.

Taking off your evasion gear is probably the best way. I don't have much evasion (only around +15), and my skill is capped.

Group with a highlevel whm, find a 'tough' worm - have them silence it and just melee it with parry daggers.
Whm can rest without having to worry about getting hit until silence wears off, silenced worm should resort to meleeing you since it cant attack the whm.

I'm pretty sure facing away does not give you parry because it isn't in your foward facing arc, besides you would lose hate easily when you get healed since you are not hitting the monster - seems inefficient. Parry daggers do help you skillup faster.

You can parry while not looking. You can even parry and shield while running away from the monster (try running around in circles while a low level monster chases you and you will randomly block every once in a while even though you aren't attacking).

I guess you can skill up while AFKing but it might be a bit dangerous unless your WHM friend is reliable and trustworthy. =P

But sooner or later the WHM will get hate right?

I did notice you can shield block even while resting last night.

I pulled a pugil over my RDM friend that was resting for mp when it turned and attacked him.
The animation for shield blocking kicked in even though he was resting :spin:. Pretty weird looking so yes I see why parry goesnt require attacks from the front to work or even skillup.

I think I would still switch to grapples or some weapon like gkatana just to skill some more weapon skill types than face away and run into problems not keeping hate (thus not getting skillups).
