Non-tank Nin abilities (Not anti-tank)

This thread is NOT bashing Nin/Wars in anyway, as I said before I have a new found respect for them.

Instead, this is addressed to all Nin, Nin/Thf, Nin/Rng, Nin/War, whatever you are.

What do you think of your non-Utsusemi abilities, do you use them, and how do you use them?

Your katana WS (If you use a katana), your various other Ninjitsu (elemental debuffs mostly), and (my favourite) the throwing items. Also, take into account the wide variety of status effects katana have (So double wield two different status effect katana for double status fun)


I've seen some really nice Ninja throwing items, if you can afford the cost (The highest level Shuriken has a DMG of about 63, the Maniji Shurkien) as well as a really cool throwing weapon called the Bailathorn which is the traditional needle-dart that Ninja use (In this game, it's about a 50 damage throwing item that also inflicts Bind).

Do any Ninja here use these abilities, or do they prefer to save their gil for Utsusemi?

i use all of em i'm one of the few NINs on my server that actually bothered to level up my throwing skill and it is now capped. altho' i can only afford stacks of Shuriken right now, it's still nice to add damage to my regular dmg too. i make sure to have at least 3 stacks of shuriken before every leveling session along with my stacks of shihei and other jutsu debuffs.

I use all of them too. But i've been neglecting my throwing skills lately so i bought a lvl 28 chakram and trying to level it up.

Although Nin/War is what most want you to use, really the other combo's arn't bad at all, just not as highly publicized and generally party friendly. But only if they're used at they're best. The thing with Ninja is that many think that Duel Wielding is enough, but its not. Ninja's have a huge bag of tricks and you must use every single one of them. If you arn't being a tanking Ninja I can't see how you can get by without having maximum Throwing ability, and plenty of Shuriken, and maybe the occasional Juji ones too. No matter what one does Ninja's an expensive job, if your using Nin/Thf or whatever you need to use the other Ninjutsu very often to cripple and attack the enemy for the party. If your using Nin/Thf combine Sneak Attack with a Weapon skill for maximum effect. Remember that only non emenetal and mutli hit WS's connect with Sneak or Trick. Remember that if your playing a non Nin/War, you have to give something to the party effort. You can't just sit there and hit away and expect to be useful, even the damage dealer classes have specific differences in how they're used that aid the overall party "body" in a way. Samurai's give damage and can participate in mutliple Renkei's, Dragoon's can do damage and shed hate with the Jump's as well as they're Dragon. Dark Knights do constant, reliable damage and can aid with Black Magic, Thieves Hate control and do high single damage, and Ranger's do the greatest Melee damage at single, high incriments. There is no melee that just stands there and does his job right. If you want to use Nin/Thf, Nin/Rng or anything else other than War, you'll be expected to at least combard the enemy with the right enfeebles and have good equipment and give at least some damage. Everything. You can't tank so you have to really push your other options to they're absolute limit to help your party. No slacking at all. :D

Before someone says anything, I know that Nin/War is the optimal combo but I'm giving advice on the topic question.
