  • Ninja Damage Dealer?

A friend of mine told me he wants to be a Ninja full time, but that he hates tanking.
I've told him over and over again that Ninja will only be wanted for Blink-Tanking,
    but I might be wrong.
He's about lvl 7 in Ninja and at least lvl 30 in warrior...

CAN a Ninja deal any kind of considerable damage?
    Rude, but not wrong. ;x

Its about the same thing as stripping a Theif of their sneak and trick attacks and just making them fight like a regular melee....oh wait.......

      Uh no not that bad.

You won't ever get the big one-hit numbers, but the damage is consistent at the high end. Not enough to warrant being a "damage dealer" but not as bad as people dog it out to be. People just seem to gallop over having a big hit and making everyone go "ooooh".. something that rarely ever happens to NIN.

        shinoro is right.

nin will never deal insane damage, the only time ive seen nasty damage was from sneak getting stacked with Blade: To.

have done around 300 on VT-IT.

never will u do crazy damage.

however when u couple it with counter attack (avenger earrings) and double attack (25 war sub) as well as haste and low delay'd weapons, it makes for a very interesting fight.

im @ level 42 ninja with my taru on garuda.

I usually switch my subjob b/w THF and WAR depending on whos in my party... youre never bound to just one use of your char.

If their is a paladin around, i dont even bother wasting much shehei and use THF.

I have to say, it has been very fun so far and im not bored yet.

        good luck ^^

ninjas are probably the best doing normal damage now since new 40 dmg katanas came out. so basically u will do 80 damage for every turn. and u will hit twice b4 a dark knight does since u have around a 200 delay time and he has a 500. so basically u will do 160 damage when he does 99 or so. but the bad thing is ninjas have crappy tp skills.

When you switch from blink tank to a damage combo like thf/nin, I am guessing you have an alternate set of equipment like +attack/-evasion earrings and such, essentially dressing in gear that a DRK may wear to boost accuracy and attack while losing some def and evasion?

there's one way that ninjas can deal damage, but you have to be higher than level 60.

im guess that subbing samurai when you hit 60nin is the answer

Subbing Samurai is junk for Ninja. I think Vivid is talking about Ranger sub, at lvl 60 Nin/30 Rng, you will get Barrage and maybe Slugshot.

the best damage dealer in the game is ranger/warrior and msot of my linkshell buddies have told me that ninja/ranger is actually decent, but I plan on being a ninja myself sooo i guess I'll worry about it when I get there

Hmm its nice to see some intellegent NINs ^^

Anywho...I have been experimenting with my NIN. I usually go from Mega Tank >>> Damage Dealer. The tanking part is easy as you all know, but you cant just slap on Blink and go a whole pt without getting hit (minus the occasional -ga spells ><), no, you have to buff evade to godly lvls. After hearing some NA PT badmouth NIN in kuftal i decided to show off some. I took ou a tote crab with the only damage being dealt was that water attack><. Now on the damage side i figured that stars would make a good way to deal damage..which they are but 1 the cost WAY too much and having a capped throwing skill is a MUST bc you will miss 90% of the time. After purchasing 2 sniper rings and buffing my BS skill to make D63 stars I tried my new throwing NIN in a pt. The results where rather good not only did i build TP rather quickly but i did some staedy damage that was comparable to a war...MINUS the WSs.

Oh wells..i hope to see ya guys around...unlike vivid who is always incognito lol

Hmm i had no idea ninja/ranger was a good combination - noone really goes into any depth on explaining what makes certain subs with ninja good, and what type of equipment should be used to get the most out of it.
So you use ninja stars, and +accuracy/-evasion gear for nin/rng? How about +attack items? There are some level 34 gloves ninja can wear that add 20attack, but drop evasion by -8 and some element resists

Mitsu, you mention buffing evasion to godly levels, how much +evasion do you mean by this? I only have about +9 in evasion items right now ^^ - I was looking to buy emperors hairpin for more evasion when i get 24.
Does any ninja wear +Agility items in slots where they cant find +evasion (like rings for example, i wear +2dex rings currently).
I'd like to find a set of alternate equipment i can swap in when i don't need to blink tank and help on the damage a bit sometimes.

I am still trying to find the best balance between def/attack/evasion/dex/str/agi on what i wear

3 Mithra are better than 1...

Well maybe now that ninjas got a 5 hit Ws, then a SAM sub may not be as bad as you would think. Has anyone used this WS to see if it does good damabe?

                              I'm currently lv 43 Ninja,

                              When I am not tanking my stats are roughly: +36atck, +4Evasion, +9 accuracy, +9 dex, +3 % haste, ...

I sub war for beserk and use meat mithkabob always. I think I'm doing great dmg with accuracy and speed. Can't wait till lvl 45!!

I'm thinking of subbing DRK at 60 for Soul Eater and more attack bonus traits. More hits with Soul Eater will argo me like crazy but we Ninjas have Utesumi and we evade like mad anyways.

Right now this seems like a good combo, but maybe there's something I'm missing. Any comments on this combo?

Ranger seems really good since barrage will give you crazy dmg every 5 min. But you have to have good archery lvl to at least a lvl 60's archery lvl to make it work, or you'll just keep missing, which will be very difficult to keep up if your ranger is not lvl 60.

For all the low lvl Ninja's out there, remember to keep your throwing lvl capped! My throwing is lvl 82 atm and I regret to not keep it up, I'm about 40 lvl under and can't hit anything above not worthwhile, meaning I can't use stars till i bring up my throwing. =(
