  • Honestly now, pick one.

    Which would you rather have?

    Option A
    ACC +10
    STR +6
    Fire +12

    or

    Option B
    DEF -17
    Dark -20
    STR +5
    Haste +8%
    Accuracy +10
    Ranged Accuracy +10

    Seriously now...

    Now think about this...

    Long and hard...

    Are you done thinking yet?

    Ok.

Is -1 STR, -17 defense, -20 Dark, -12 Fire, +10 Ranged ACC and +8% haste worth 1 to 1.2 mil gil? Seriously? Is it worth 500k more gil? 200k more gil?

    Am I missing something here?

Honestly... Yes every bit of haste helps more than you would think. And one more str is always welcome if it doesn't show much on the average dmg it still helps WS dmg abit.

EDIT: What armor piece are we talking about anyway? No item in the databases I've looked in has all those stats. Closest I got was brown belt. Now you buy that belt and I'll buy my ammo and we'll all be happy people(shit poor but whatever:p) Also on a sidenote I have a 46 mnk friend of mine who felt about as gimped as rng without archers/hawkers before he got the belt.<<

Sadly the issue here isnt just "STR rings + Life Belt" or "Brown Belt + Snipers". You will have to mix and match your STR and Accuracy gear depending on what you fight. There is no one set of equipment that will be the most effective on everything you fight.

One of the few versitilities the MNK job has is the equipment choices you can make, so don't limit yourself by thinking that one setup is the best for every situation.

Just to concur with what Redlimit said, a versatile monk is a good monk. Though some gear is good for some situations, you may find some mobs have much higher evasion (like an occasional Blagger or Alastor in Bibiki Bay for example). It's good to have a lot of different armor choices on your person when you party, just to be prepared. This is expensive, but it's the safest way to go.

Thanks for the helpful responses guys.

I'm having a real hard time trying to convince myself that the Snipers x 2 + Brown Belt is worth getting over Puissance Rings x 2 + Life Belt. That's a 1.2 mil difference for -1 STR and +8% haste.

If I had to pick between Snipers or a Brown Belt, I would go with the Belt. Yes, sadly some equipment is expensive and not everyone will be able to afford every single piece that is out there for MNK, so you will have to pick what gives you the most value.

Personally I got the most value out of the Brown Belt. The enemies that I had to use a lot of +ACC gear were not as common as others, and by the time you can get to the levels where enemies can have high evasion (63ish-70ish), you have access to Shiva's Claws and your AF Body, so thats +13 ACC right there. You can even whip out the Battle Gloves if you have to for another +3.

Not to mention that the whole "Life Belt vs. Snipers" debate took place before the food update, so I wouldn't be surprised if MNKs could do just fine with Brown Belt/STR Rings using Sole Sushi for accuracy.

That would maybe turn out to be even more expensive. The food adds up.

My gear setup is 2x STR rings and Lifebelt/brownbelt, which i switch out depending on which food i've got on me. Sushi is INCREDIBLY potent. If you have confidence in your party making good use of your time, then i suggest using sushi

Has anyone ever tried the Jack O' Lanterns yet?? Doesn't that give +10 accu??? Just wondering since my mnk friend is going that route instead of the sushi.

                        do NOT use jacks!

yes they give +10 acc, thats all. your better off going with +atk food in that case. because youl be doing shit for damage.

                        sushi is so good because it increases ACC DEX and ATTACK, thats why people love it >.>;;

I honestly think some mnks go a little overboard of the acc equipment myself. But to each their own..

I tryed snipers and brown belt for a while, but ended up going back to str rings and life belt, which I still use at the moment. My advice would be try both set ups and see what you prefer. I gave in and tryed snipers just because I was fed up of wondering what they would be like, and always having conflicting views from people. Testing for yourself is the best way to find things out, especially to do with equipment, at least, that's what I think.

15% accu and 5STR, but we'll try and test that out like what Zeph just said. I was just wondering since 15% accu vs 10accu is a huge difference, but that 5str does make sense for the ATK he needs.

Monks naturally have very high accuracy, then factor in whatever boost you have with your equipment. not sure if your equipment adds to the food's %+ effect or not but even if it doesnt, monk's high acc make the sushi more than worth it.
