  • Chi Blast Practicing and Numbers O.o;

I have been Luckily introduced with the practices of Chi Blast ever since i learned the ability, being taught from my now-currently HNMLS that it is very powerful. I have been spread the Message of the basic Techniques and Math of Chi Blast and would like some tips and tricks maybe to put be ahead of my peer Monks.
I would enjoy Macro hints - basic strategies, good MND + equips (NON GOD EQUIP). Currently i am Lvl 61 and my current max was 613 at lvl 60 with +13 MND and a friendly asked-for BRD song. I love to impress people with Chi blast and enjoy this ability, and i would like to hear some of the lower level monk Chi Blast ahcievements and tips as well as the Higher ones.

I want to make this a serious Thread because i would find this Thread Beneficial to Monks all over FFXI.

i donno how there's any tatic involve, just slap on as much mnd gear as you can find (excluding temple gloves) , eat goblin mushpot(+10mnd -50% def) boost 10-12 times, no more than 12, chi blast away.

First off, when you're in the fights with a larger number of people, you should do a few things. I'd recommend turning off all effects other than you->you and you->monster so you can make sure your boosts are working and you can see if your chi blast went off or not. Also turn on every chat filter possible.

      Now on to blasting....

      1. Boost 12 times. 12 is really the key as that's the max number you can get before boost resets. The difference in damage you will see from using 11 boosts to using 12 boosts is rather dramatic, but that's also where you can mess up if your lag takes too much time. (this is why I suggest turning on all those filters and turning off almost all the effects)

      2. Always wear your af gloves when boosting.

      3. In your chi blast macro, add a line before the blast to switch out your af gloves with devotee's mitts or whatever +mnd gloves you have, then blast, and wait a second or two and change back to af.

      4. Run for your life.

Hehe as an elvaan monk, Chi-blasting in xp is generally more of a dangerous thing, than benefitial. I'll save my chi's for 75 cause when you start the fight averaging 400-500 chi blasts it's generally a bit tough to loose aggro.

          Chi Blastage

A few things that have helped me max out Chi Blasts-

          *MND MND MND

Kirin's Pole, Kirin's osode, Promise Badge, Suzaku's Sune-Ate, Tranquility Ringx 2, Temple Crown, Temple Gloves, Custom M Slacks (Hume), Black Belt

Subpar Substitutes - Pride Staff, Justacorps +1

          /WHM

Staff fully skilled up. This makes a significant difference.

BRD to sex up +MND Etudes

Hope that gives you a few of ideas

How exactly did black belt help you max out your chi blast damage?

As far as I know, +haste% only reduces spell cast and recast time, along with increasing attack.

It doesn't reduce job ability recast, right?

                AYAY

im focusing more on mind currently at lvl 61 i have 57+37 MND with food which should take me to around.... 750-800? with +23 i did 702 on Simurgh but currrently at the moment i have not tried my hardest yet with +37 because i was busy with brown belt quest (finished today) and bought kung fu shoes. Im getting higher and higher each day thnx for the equip ideas.

BTW +MND equip are so easy to find but EXPENSIVE sometimes like 40k for +2 mnd i have:

                Pride Staff:+7mnd
                2x +2 MND rings: +4mnd
                Devotee mitts:+5 MND
                AF head: +5 mnd
                promise badge: +5 mnd
                Friar rope +1 mnd

I can do better i have 100k what do you suggest would be my next buy, if anything is worth it, or should i save for another melee equip because im only lvl 61

I'd focus on getting to 75 first before you start worrying about chi blasting. On any of the lesser HNMs like Simurgh, Serket, Roc, ect they are weak enough to melee and far outdamage any number you could chi blast every 3 minutes.

As for my equip, I have:
                  Kirin's Pole (+10)
                  Kirin's Osode (+10)
                  Promise Badge (+5)
                  Devotee's Mitts+1 (+6)
                  Sapphire Rings x 2 (+4 x 2)
                  Royal Guards Mantle (+2)
Friar's Rope (+1) *need that stupid twincoon obi* ><
Tactican Magician Slops +2 (+3 inside nation's control)
                  Suzaku's Sune-ate (+15)

I also have +1 MND from merits for a grand total of 71+75 MND when im under nation's control. As for what kind of damage that can do, I've done over 1400 to kirin but didn't have fraps on As for my highest recorded, it's attached ^^

Oh, and having staff skilled up makes no difference for chi blast

Having staff skilled up while using a staff for Chi Blast reasons, would help because your attack would be capped for the best output in your Chi Blast so yea it would make a difference

Attack has nothing to do with your damage. If it did, I could stop boosting after 9 or however many boosts it is when I hit cap and still do max damage. Try this wearing your H2H weapon when it caps out attack and compare the damage to when you do a full 12 boosts. HUGE difference.

I'm up to +69 MND with all my equip and food now, haven't fought any gods since I got osode this past week, but I hope to set new records for myself now. Most I've done is 1380 to Genbu, and I've hit over 1300 on all the other gods.

Only screenshots I've made so far...

Does anyone knows the math of how much extra damage each point of Mind adds to Chi Blast?

I'm not sure of the actual formula, but it definately adds quite a bit of damage. For a while I messed around with just having an equip macro of Promise Badge and two +2 MND rings and it would turn a 300 Chi Blast into a 400.

There is likely a point where you get diminishing returns from all the +MND though.
