Monk is one of those jobs that slowly gets more powerful over time, even more so than other jobs. There isn't really anything special about a Monk from 1-50 besides what are probably the best early game Weaponskills (Combo and Raging Fists).

You actually get a lot stronger in the 50-60 range but you won't really notice it because mobs are getting harder and you fight a lot of high DEF mobs.

Once you pass 65 though, you should quickly become aware of just how much damage you are dealing. Even with 1k+ Spinning Slashes a DRK will struggle to outdamage you over a whole fight at 70+. At this point you are capable of attacking basically non-stop with regular hits, and using a WS about every 30 seconds if you so choose (not always the best idea  ).

Honestly though, MNK and DRK become good friends in the later levels since they start to go together so well. A lot of their WS lead into each other for powerful renkei, and their skillsets compliment each other nicely.

PLD MNK DRK Mage Mage Mage is the dream party setup for 70+.

Well, our delay drops to about 300 later on, and our weapons at most give us 90~ish delay... so we have delay of G katana? but we hit twice or more at the damage of a normal heavy weapon afterall

Most great katanas are about 450 delay with the uchigatanas that ninjas can use usually around 420. The bastok CP one is 399 I believe though.

sadly a lot of jobs are underated by newer players, these tend to be: mnk, thf, war.

There is a sad attitude that the melee jobs among the "basic" jobs are worthless.

Some people really should parse data more often.

It's funny how so many people tell me that they absolutely love monks, but I have gotten maybe 4-5 invites since lvl 40. The rest I've asked to join or formed myself.:spin:

For one I have to say, putting up with 65 levels of shit pays off when you hit 66.

I struggled to keep up with a lot of friends up to level 65, once I hit that and I got dragon kick, I left them in the dust.

66-75 took all of....1week or maybe just over, 70-72 took a DAY. :p

Also its quite suprising how few NAs exp in the tomb, they miss out on some of the best exp you can earn, 5k+ an hour is quite tasty.

About a week or so ago, Gryffes set up a 4x mnk PT with myself and another mnk in my LS..The setup was 2x mnk/nin, 2x mnk/thf, whm and brd. Needless to say we didnt even need a SC, mnk/nins doing 1k asurans and us mnk/thfs doing over 1k dragon kicks, we made so much exp we ripped up both ends of the loop camp.

So many new players struggle to see the strength of mnks, since so many are so far ignorant they gauge mnk HIT FOR HIT, as in "roffles you punch for 20 dmg, I do 30..." when the mnk hits twice per round for 40 where as the dumbass who said that hits for 30 dmg per round and slower, which was pretty much the situation I was put up against for most of my time while playing, good thing is, those are the idiots who are still stuck at genkai 1 or 2 and still ar thick as pig shit. :p

DRK are wonderful SC partners provided they can keep up with TP, I have 2 DRKs in my LS with real pimped up gear, something likie +60 acc and still do awesome dmg, and can keep up with MNK TP gain, after PTing with them both a few times, then PTing with a DRK without some of the stuff they have you really see how much of a large gap there is between good and bad ones. :p

MNK are on the whole underrated by idiots in general who dont understand that the biggest hit isnt always the best, you could hit for 200 a hit for all I care but when I can do 300 in the same space of time, its just plain BS how they still have it in their head that they do better dmg since they can out dmg me on a single punch when I hit multiple times where they hit once.

If someone says to you "MNK is a shit job", they are foolish, and amongst all else, ignorant and very very bloody thick.

DRK rock for SC dmg, drk/thf has a bigger impact on WS dmg due to the fact that they do high dmg hit for hit and get a nice kick out of sneak attack, but as I see it, DRKs still fall behind on total dmg output over time unless theyre pimped out.

Each have their good points, I can say for one id rather a drk/thf closed a skillchain on Aura Statues in Sky for example, but I would always take a mnk/thf for closing in King Ranps, best ive managed so far is er, 3k.

Each to their own, but MNKs are a far cry from being a bad job.

PLD, MNK, THF, BLM, SMN, BRD Party I was in last night, no 'convert', no stabbing weapons.. a MNK + PLD, best against skeletons, you would think? Nah, I suggested we go fight some skeletons at Gustav, which we can handle easily, and the whole team chickened out on me.. because they probably died too much from undeads when they were stupid enough to run around qufim with yellow hp.

That answer your question on 'So little NA fights skeleton'? >_>; I wonder how many NA knows how to put a PT to the max effeciency... I have been looking forward to fight skeleton at higher lvl, and finally got a PT set up that won't screw up against skeletons hunting, then the PT wet their pants upon hearing the word(UNDEAD)...

                    Damn right. Damn right.

I love you for saying that.

Too bad my WAR is deleted...

I'm comming back as a r0x0r Elvaan MNK which I thought to be my equal when I was a melee. Everything else was below us.

Rangers get owned by monks in ballista harshly lmao, its one of the reasons why i went monk anyhow. Though ranger can't live long when i spam much.

On my server at least, Monk and Warrior damage dealers are making a comeback and are becoming more popular then say Dark Knights or Dragoons... Rangers are and most likely will always be the most popular melee damage dealer though.

... I'm a big fan of Monks and Warriors myself.

from my expenrience, ranger's dmg in ballista are nerfed, all of their range attack are cut to half, it's just weird when you see a rng do 1600 sidewinder/slugshot on a VT IT monster, yet it only does 400-600 dmg on you in ballista. Asuran fists remains the best ws in ballista, a very nice one shooter ws

Sure, I can't do Distortion, but I can do Impaction and I can do it well. Last night in Boyahda we were doing Sidewinder/Slug Shot (400-800) >> Raging Fists(300ish average) = Impaction and BLM MB'ed Thunder II for 400ish. Didn't need Distortion since I do excellent damage with just fists even to Crabs, was averaging 45 a hit last night, averaged 55 a hit to Crawlers. Also, with a 399 Delay due to Brown Belt (340 Base + 91 Weapon = 431 * .92 = 399) I wasn't too far behind the Ranger in terms of TP, so we could SC very often. I have been very lucky to meet nice people throughout the 50's, and hopefully I can Party with them on the glorious day I hit 60.
I totally agree. On my RDM in Boyahada we were doing Impaction and it owns crabs just as bad, if not worse than, Distortion. Even I could MB it with 0 resists (and RDM are starting to really suck ass at nuking by level 56).
