Sure my MNK is only lvl 30 but through my whole lvl'ng career nobody seemed to want me in their pt. I always had the best gear and could out damage almost all of the people in my pt. And once i hit lvl 30 with WAR sub Berserk---> Boost---> Combo would do like 175 on IT gobs. So i think people dont give MNK's enough thought because they would rather have a DRK or RNG. Maybe im just biased but idk, feel free to voice your opinions.

Underrated or not, I don't know. But as far as I know, people do prefer DRK(every god damn guide said they are the best DD*sarcasm*), or RNG(they do outdamage all the melee
)...
But it is the MNK's life, I wait for PT everyday without any invite, and end up farming somewhere. I usually form my own PT when I really want to Lvl, else, I'd go farm something, since I know it takes 5 days for me to get in a party.

50+ is a lil hard for monks because you fight crabs wich you guys do a lil worse on...but when you can fight raptors you own again...but just happens that my last party had a monk and my WHM had a parser on a laptop next to him, DRK(me)(hume) did 29% of the damage in all the fights, monk(hume) and DRG(hume) did an even 26%(but the drg had his wyvern who did about 4-5%) and for shits and giggles, RDM 1%...this was about 37 or so fights on robber crabs in cape terrigan...
the monk had pretty top notch gear too...so depending what you are fighting monk may not be the best choice...but when you fight "soft" things or skeles you should be the first melee to be picked...
also i dont know about how well monk can SC with other jobs, so if they cant sc with other jobs that could also lower your chances...

Lol, you just said MNK is less than all other melee to let you know (probably just a typo).Originally posted by Chrisman182
mnk< all other melee
I know that at my level, MNK is the absolute bottom of the list on other melee that I look for when I'm leader or just looking for members. Right above MNK is going to be a WAR (depending on sub and type of weapon used). I can honestly say that I rarely ever see a WAR seeking at my level (never really party with them). The problem is that Distortion is the main skillchain you're going to want to use for a long time since crabs and beetles are weak to it (most common xp mobs). MNK can't participate in Distortion until 60+ (right about where xp mob types start to vary a lot more). It depends on what you're leveling on a lot also. I love partying with a good thief that can close Distortion with that Viper Bite. RNGs are nice too.
(Note: If there is no magic burster available, MNK would be fine because they deal good damage in general.)
Basically just suck it up and wait until higher levels when you can totally destroy skeletons for you to be loved.SAM 74

I find it kinda funny a lot of DRK's start playing MNK after 75 and a lot of MNK's start playing DRK after 75 (least on my server) >_>Most memorable WoW vent convos on Burning Legion:

Mmm.... Just what do you mean by that? Blunt is the worst against "soft" things.... skeleton is true, that we are best at... but "soft" things kill us, killing a slime of the same lvl as a skel, the slime could kill me whereas the skel couldn't...Originally posted by Buuyon

As for skillchain, MNK does have a big disadvantage with that, our good WS are mainly fusion/impaction element, meaning we can never join in a distortion chain, best we can get is detonation and reverbation, but they are lv1 skillchain + we have to use the lesser WS. Well, after 60 when we get our dragon *snickers*
I do noticed a lot of PLD likes MNK, my LS' PLDs all prefer MNK over any DD for some reason O.o;; May be we do good damage without earning hate?
It's mostly the same for all melee, about the waiting... the thing is, melee is overpopulated, no one need to wait for a melee, there are too many to choose from.. I usually just randomly pick a few when I form my own PT(not MNK, MNK + MNK = pointless)... What frustrating is when you see someone with an underlvl sub, ie DRK54/THF20 getting invite before your fully lvled sub MNK...

As far as Monk's being bottom of the list from 50-60, that has been so incredibly false for me it's not even funny. I have built up a reputation with a very good BLM, a few Bards, and a lot of Rangers. You know who the first person they look for when forming a Party? No, not that DRK because he can do Distortion versus a Crab, but me, a Monk. I am level 56 now and I'd say I'm out of most of the "Crab" Fest FFXI. I can go to Gustav now, and not too long I can hit up VoS for Raptors and Terrigan for more Crabs (-_-) and Pugil/Raptor.
Sure, I can't do Distortion, but I can do Impaction and I can do it well. Last night in Boyahda we were doing Sidewinder/Slug Shot (400-800) >> Raging Fists(300ish average) = Impaction and BLM MB'ed Thunder II for 400ish. Didn't need Distortion since I do excellent damage with just fists even to Crabs, was averaging 45 a hit last night, averaged 55 a hit to Crawlers. Also, with a 399 Delay due to Brown Belt (340 Base + 91 Weapon = 431 * .92 = 399) I wasn't too far behind the Ranger in terms of TP, so we could SC very often. I have been very lucky to meet nice people throughout the 50's, and hopefully I can Party with them on the glorious day I hit 60.
As far as the myth goes of Monk's vs. Crabs, it has been completely false. I have outdamaged every single melee save Ranger that I have partied with, I even beat out a pre-Sidewinder Rank 9 Ranger in Kuftal. I figured the 50's would be absolutely awful, but they haven't been. I have enjoyed them thus far, and apparently it only gets better from here on out.

I know that sometimes when I think of "soft" mobs it doesn't necessarily mean mobs like jellies and elementals that are in fact resistant to physical attacks, but more like mobs with lower VIT and defense than something like a crab. Since MNK's damage is spread out between two smaller hits, extremely high defense mobs may be more of a problem for getting that damage in than for a DRK or something packing more punch in his one swing of the scythe. I myself consider spiders "soft" mobs since they have high attack but lower defense. As a melee, I much prefer fighting things that I can hit for way more damage (obviously), but I assume it's the other way around for a PLD.

MNKs are underrated due to the fact that they're not big hitters. If people really looked at the damage do, they're some of the best DoTs in the game.
Personally, I know and love the MNK job class. In my past static party I had a MNK. It wasn't uncommon that if he landed both punches, he wasn't far off from one of my Scythe swings. The fact that he was Mithran helped him land back to back punches all the time. Then with me being Elvaan my wiffs kept our damage very close.
We fought a lot of Gobbys, so we did a lot of Fusion/Fragmentation. So MNKs are great for finishing that off with Raging Fists. SA+Slice (DRK - me) ~> Red Lotus Blade (PLD) ~> Raging Fists. I'd start out with 400-450dmg, PLD put in a decent chunk, and Raging Fists would usually be within 5dmg of my top heavy Slice. With a lot of the really good Fragmentations we landed the hate turned the MNK, but the Gobby was just about finished at that point.
So I really enjoy having a MNK along for the fun. Not to mention MNK/SAM using 100 Fists is a big time party saver. All those flying punches, and all that TP. That's one super loaded knuckle sandwich. lol
But much later in the game, parties spend all their time EXP'n on Skeletons. And none of us will be able to keep up with MNKs.
I am, however, curious about how a MNK works out in HNM God fights.Odude

There are parsers data all over the place showing MNKs abilities. What the parsers usually show is that from 1-40 MNKs are acceptable damage dealers not the best and not the worst. During that time as well RNG and DRK usually exceed the rest.
From 40-45 the MNK starts to come closer to matching DRK in Damage but the DRK also starts loose it's strength in comparison to a RNG. From 45-59 many parsers show that a MNK can actually match a bow wielding RNG in damage, of course a gun wielding RNG will still outdamage.
From 60+ as long as the MNK gets skeleton fighting parties he's the leading force in the damage, any RNG in that party would be crying because they basically end up close to the bottom of the list in damage ability.
I know when I was a lv. 30 RNG a lv. 18 MNK was matching my damage on skeletons
