  • Brown belt quest NMs

Mm... Only asking those who has actually done the quest, and I don't want answer like 'Just buy the damn belt' because that's off topic... and I need to finish this quest for both fame and to open black belt anyway....

So, morbolger, the malboro NM, is it really a 24-36 hours (earth time) spawn? or is it a random pop from the ..... stroper?
And what lvl did you take them 3 NMs?

I think I made a few topics about this myself,
but it's easier to tell you than fish for an old topic.

The Morbolger is not a lotto spawn with the Stroper, it is completely separate.
As far as I know, it spawns 21-36 hours after the last kill.
I was lucky enough to ask just the right taru WHM who happened to be in the area.
He told me the time of the last kill and 21 hours later,
I was there, ready to fight this thing and get the drop.
I beat out one active JP with Chi Blast and argoed it.
I was in my late 40's when I soloed him, say...48.
I broke out Hundred Fists and most of my buffs and took him down with 270 HP to spare
(without the really good stuff, Fuma Kyahan, Jujitsu Gi, the Kote, etc.)
    This was before Subtle Blow,
so just imagine how many moves he pulled on me. ._.
You should probably have an easier time.
I had thought that would be the hardest drop...I was wrong.

Turns out that the Morbolger Vine is the only 100% drop in this little quest.
The Nue Fang and the Dodo Skin are somewhat lower and had their own unique challenges.

The Nue was impossible to get to when I first attempted this quest.
The Glacier is not fun for anyone lower than 54.
The one good part about the Nue was that he has a VERY small spawn area....
However, there are tier 5 goblins in the same area,
so even if I could solo the Nue, I'd have to deal with argos.

The Deadly Dodo was easier to get to, but had a much larger spawn area.
Being a Cockatrice, it was also subject to attack by various people
who were hunting Tabar Beaks for the valuable cockatrice meat (an ingredient in Meat Mithkabobs.)
The Dodo itself wasn't a simple Hundred Fists monster.
His abilities made him much harder to deal with.

Both the Nue and the Dodo, unlike the Morbolger, ARE lottery spawns,
so someone has to be killing the placeholders.
Depending on your lvl and how high/close your friends are, this is a bit of an issue.
They both average out at about 1-3 hours pops, but with the non-100% drop rate,
you'll feel as though you have better things to do.

    My ass was relatively lucky.
After weeks of having the vine in my inventory,
I was finally able to hunt and kill both the Dodo & Nue
and got both items and the belt in one day.

I would seriously suggest waiting until you can solo this,
as I doubt your friends like you enough to waste a day on you.

    Hope this helps. :/
    Rude, but not wrong. ;x

Yes, this is definately a quest you will want to solo, and I recommend that you be at least level 55. This is for ease of beating the NM's (although you will still have to Hundred Fist Molborger and Dodo), and so other mobs will not aggro (mostly in the Glacier).

Dodo isn't too bad if you are farming for Cockatrice Meat yourself, which as a 55 MNK is a decent way to make money. Just run around killing Tabar in his spawn area and he will pop. I usually farm Meat for 2 hours and I almost always see him twice, so he pops often.

Nue was easy as long as the goblins don't aggro. Also, you will likely be the only player within miles of the Nue spawn so you get him all to yourself.

As for Molborger try to find out when the last spawn was (most players who are not MNK or not on the Brown Belt quest will help you), but if you cannot, simply wait for the next server downtime (patch, update, etc). Find out the exact time that the server came back online, and all you do then is add 21 hours to that time. Be at the Molborger spawn and in a few hours of camping you should have him.

        Thank you so much ^^

Thank you lone dragon for the detailed explanation, and Redlimit for the useful timer(server open-21hours later), I think I will ask my friend to camp for me after the next server down ^^
