  • Monk/Ninja viable?

Well, I've always been experimenting with stuff... I'm a Monk/Ninja 30/10 right now. I need to level my Ninja more so I can get Utsumei, and the other skills at level 15 that enfeeble.

    My presentation:
Monk/Ninja is an interesting way to tackle a Monk's lack of versatility and Ninja's lack of being a substantial damage dealer without pouring your heart into it. A Monk's solo skill will be increased with Utsumei, and the enfeebling spells will help with elemental claws, plus I suppose at later levels you could bounce the weaken fire with the actual fire ninjutsu.

    My question
Hard to find parties late in game, or will people be interested? I haven't done any partying since I got to level 30, since I raced over to Ninja-ville.

Well, I'm in Norg right now with Silent Oils ready to quest for Ninjutsu, let me know if I should leave or what?

By the way... Kudos to FFXI-staff finally making the sneak status quiet. I was eerily fixated on the non-sounds.

Monk/Ninja would be cool for solo, but that's it. You couldn't blink-tank, and you'll do a lot less damage than if you subbed warrior. I've considered the combo for Ballista, but I don't think I'll bother with ninja sub until 75.
    Straw-hat Pirates, fool! What?!

i saw a pt owned the HNM Simurgh in rolanberry. the pt consists of Mnk/Nin, Thf/Whm, Pld/War, Drk/Thf, Brd/Whm, Rdm/Whm. The monk did utsetusmi ichi + ni (lvl 75) and did asuran fists on the bird to get hate so that way drk/thf can do sneak+trick cross reaper to create dark renkei. took them about 10 mins to take the HNM down.. pretty interesting pt set up.

And on the plus side; the Subtle Blow abilities would stack yes?

I think it's more a solo job as well... let's analysis?

Stat-wise, getting the AGI DEX, especially DEX from ninja, will help a lot with monk's lack of DEX(as I was told, Mithra never have problem with dex).
Skill-wise, stealth is a semi-invisible, not too useful, dual wield is wasted since monk doesn't use 2 weapons at once.
Spell-wise, Utsusemi is nice, but without provoke, tanking is impossible in lvl party, so you won't get a chance in Utsusemi-ing in lvl party(the main selling point of ninja), as for other ninjustu, debuffing ninjutsu can be live without, since RDM, BLM will always debuff... attack ninjutsu isn't something a must...
In the end, for the solving DEX problem, THF can do just as well, but you also get sneak attack, etc... WAR can solve part of the DEX problem, but attacks also improved due to double attacks and various stat bonus from WAR.

Well, you can always try your own combo.

monks have the best Dex out of the damage dealers, only out done by thieves and ninjas.

but still, with /war lvl 50+, you'll be throwing more punches to make up for the 1 less dex, and your punches will be hitting much harder with berserk.
/ninjutsu will also be half level, and I believe they are INT based (ninjas have good int) so the monk's low INT would compound failure even further
