  • Monks: Tremendously Upgraded!

Anyone else as happy as I am?

Monks have just been majorly boosted in this patch, as our main "con" when fighting end-game mobs was that we enable the enemy mob to earn too much TP to unleash deadly attacks.

Now the damage-over-time kings will never have to hold back, all thanks to beautiful Subtle Blow (less TP given to mob).

Furthermore, Asuran Fists can now be used again NM, HNMs, and the like with seemingly relative impunity. Before, the WS was considered a "NO" vs. these mobs for the massive TP it gave to them, but combined with the WS Nerf (which also affects enemy TP gain) and Subtle Blow, all I have to say is "hell yeah." TP gain isn't an issue for a Monk, so the nerf doesn't affect us the way it does other, slowly attacking classes. I'm glad Dark Knights were hit (egotistical bastards), though I do feel bad for Dragoons. Atleast Samurai are back in the forefront as TP-gain multi-WS masters.

    Go Monks!

    Main Job(s): 75 MNK
    Secondary Job(s): 38 WAR / 38 WHM / 37 THF
    San d'Oria Rank: 10
    Zilart Mission: 14
    Promathia Mission: 1
Dynamis Interloper: JEU / WIN / BAS / SAN
Current Status: Returning to my old favorite; the Monk. Also awaiting my new PC so I can try out World of Warcraft.

Monks attack twice (3-5 times later on in the game :D) whereas just about everyone else in the game attacks once, twice tops per attack. Enemies gain TP just like we do for each time they're attacked. The addition of subtle blow, correct me if I'm wrong, please, makes the Monk natural double attack only give the monster the TP of one attack. This means that the monster can't use his powerful skills nearly as often.

As for the whole Asuran Fists schpiel, I am inclined to assume that it is the same deal. Asuran Fists gives the monsters a much smaller TP gain now, and on HMNs and stuff that is a big deal.
Finally got Rank 5! *Sings the "I love my Airship Pass" song*

From what I understood from the update, Subtle blow does stack with the -TP given to mob on the Relic gear as well...

          yes...
several pieces of mnk AF2 had an original subtle blow effect...
but since they added it in as passive ability, they changed them to subtle blow UP...

Subtle Blow is indeed amazing for MNK. Fighting Terrigan Robber Crabs last night was painless for the first time because they no longer spam their Def Up abilities (the fact that I am a MNK war using Raging Fists probably used to account for a lot of that).

The TP fix affects us the least, so thats good as well.

High tp return isn't the only reason you don't use multi-hits on hnms...they also do crap damage:p SA + dragon kick or howling fist will own asuran fists against hnms any day.

                          I don't know if Monks were upgraded as much as other classes were downgraded. Monk are just effected less by the TP nerfage. Less TP from other people in your PT means less WS, meaning less Skillchain, resulting in less Magic Bursts making killing stuff take longer, meaning it takes longer to XP. It adds up ; ;
