  • Monk Equipment At Level 10

    Hello,
I just started playing about 5 days ago, and I have one friend (lvl 29whm/16blm) that has been granting me alot of gil. The problem is I have no idea what kind of equipment and what I should get at lvl 10, being that I am lvl 8. If anyone could please give me a comprehensive guide on what I should buy and what would be the best of the best for a lvl 10 that would really help me.
    Thank You

Buy whatever armor you want. At lvl 10, they're all about the same. Elemental defenses don't seem to add up, so they're not really worth the money. You may want to start saving some money for Balance (+2dex) or Courage (+2str) rings at lvl14...they'll last you a long time but cost around 13-20k each.

My best suggestion to you is to get a pair of Tropical Punches. I know I just opened a can of worms with this, but in all seriousness they will last you forever and are great. Sure they're only +1dmg, but the +10 acc is just godly. Even now at lvl 31, I bounce back and forth between my Republic Knuckles and Tropical Punches, depending on the mobs we're fighting and how bad my miss-rate is. They'll last you forever. Once I quit farting around doing quests and hit lvl32 I might finally leave my trops behind forever and get some Impact Knuckles.

And another piece of advice, don't head to Valkurm to level in exp parties until you're around lvl15...you'll just do crap damage against crabs until then.

Which brings me to my next point...BUY FOOD! Meat Mithkabobs if you can afford it, and meat jerky if you're cheap. They'll definitely increase your damage output no matter where you fight.

    So in summary...
    1. Tropical Punches
    2. Meat Mithkabobs/Meat Jerky
    3. whichever armor...

I already went out and bought the trops and boy does it make a difference. I dont think I have ever hit something so many times without missing. Thank You for your advice.

Those rings are about 30k on Midgardsormr. So if you play on Midgardsormr you might want to skip them. (damn greedy bastards)

I've found that by spamming boost when fighting crabs, I'm actually able to do consistent damage to them. It isn't great, but it's pretty much on par with the other melees in the group.

However, you'd probably be better off taking the boat to Windhurst and fighting in their lvl 10-20 area.

On armour and equipment, unless you are tanking as a Monk, it really doesn't matter. My previous character was in a Robe and Slops through lvl 20, and it never held me back in exp parties. About the only reason I finally upgraded to real armour, was because it was causing me problems when solo, and by lvl 20, some very nice stat boosts start turning up.

Now, food is a different matter. If you've got the funds, get Meat Mithkabobs, and live off of them. They give something on the order of a +16% boost to attack, and several other very nice bonuses. Every damage dealer should use them from as soon as they have the steady income to afford them. I'd watch the AH prices, and buy up large batches during the times when the price is down, because you'll be using those things through pretty much the rest of your combat career. About the only change you're likely to make, is to upgrade to Meat Chiefkabobs, but you'll have gone through hundreds of the Mithkabobs before you get to that point.

            Crack kabobs

Mithkabobs truly are awesome, and chiefkabobs are even better. But before you make the step to chiefkabobs, you may want to carry around some meatkabobs or even meat jerky with you before using your chiefs. Here's why. When joining parties in teh dunes lately I've beened killed A LOT due to bad players not using their characters correctly. Dying is fine, I'm used to it, but losing my food effect and wasting my chiefkabobs burns me like no other. So now I just use a meatkabob or meat jerky to test out the party before I pull out the chiefs and have at it.

Good advice keoni004, I hated when I just used a Mithkabob and died the next battle. Mithkabobs are very expensive at this point in my combat career.

I am level 13 and currently use Legionair's Knuckles. I find they work nicely but should I be using anything different? As well I am set to use two Sardonix Rings at level 14. Are they what i should be using? If you don't mind I'd like to ask some of you to check out my equipment (via my allakhazam link in my signature) and tell me if it is proper for my level and what I should be upgrading to between now and level 20?

I really appreciate it. Thank you.

The only suggestions I have are these...

Light soleas for feet...a few nice pluses there.

Battle gloves...always nice to have acc/atk, and will last you forever.

Beetle earrings at 21 for +atk...last forever

                Spike necklace at 21...last forever

Basically, the gear that you can afford that adds +str,+acc, +atk, or +dex.
