  • Chi Blast

I was just wondering the best way to do Chi Blast damage. Most of the time I try to stack as many Boosts as I possibly can before using Chi. Is this the best way or are there others? I hear of people doing insane amounts of Damage with it and I was just wondering how they do it

Yes boost as many times as possible. Like most monks I am guessing you have a Spike Necklace?

Chi Blast is also affected by MND so you will want to at least take that spike necklace off before you do it (-6 MND) and what I suggest you do is get a justice badge (<1000 gil usually or you can just do quest) and make the following macro.

    /equip neck "Justice Badge"
    /ja "Chi Blast" <t>
    /wait 1
    /equip "Spike Necklace"

At level 41 which I think is when you get chi blast if boosted properly and wearing a justice badge you should do 200 damage at later levels you do much more.

Yep I do use a Spike Necklace. Thanks a lot for the Macro and Tip...I will need to go pick up the Badge and try it out.

      Thanks

Has it been proven that Mind affects Chi Blast? The only thing I've seen Chi Blast affected by is attack. With AF gloves and food, I've boosted my attack to 999, and I once did a Chi Blast did 479 damage. Since your attack can reach the max, the only thing you can do to raise your Chi Blast damage is raise your STR. How the hell does MND affect Chi Blast? You may be right, I don't know the answer myself, but I don't understand why it would.

guess you'd just have to test it yourself and decide what you think... wearing a spike necklace if 6 mind isn't a noticable difference then i'd prolly not worry about it

i was actually just wondering this too, but i would also like to know if chakra is affected by mind aswell, since its a white-abilty(pretty sure it is). if chi blas is white as well then it would make sense that mind would help it. just my 2 cents

MND does help chi blast, I've tested it, and I can see why it's used by monks for HNM battles. Justice Badge + Roast Mushroom + Mind Etude + AF enhanced boosts can get Chi Blast up there.. the MND factor is independent of your attack number, so even if you get attack to 999 you can do more by raising MND.

Chakra is not affected by MND, it's the simple equation of VITx2. It goes up to VITx3 with your AF Body.

Yeah, MND definitely affects Chi blast, I changed my macro about a week ago to unequip my Spike Necklace before I use it. By taking it off, and boosting up to 999 I did over 500dmg^^b

Think of Chi Blast as a nuke that never gets resisted. As INT affects damage for BLMs, so MND does for MNKs. I noticed a very significant difference changing macro to equip / unequip justice badge. I also notice a significant difference when I change to whm subjob. Considering the soft cap for damage for +INT for blms is quite high (in the 20s), and a monk will likely never have that much +MND, it pays off quite well to get two pieces of +MND equip for blasting (since that's all you could fit in one macro). Justice Badge is a no-brainer (since most of us wear spike necklace); I'm not sure what the next best would be.

Guess I'll have to test that out myself. Never did 500 dmg before on Chi. ^^

Keep in mind that chi blast is effected by attacks the higher your attack is the more damgage its going to do so it gets stronger as you lvl. if you are around lvl 40-50 is going to do less damage opose to a lvl 60+ the most i ever did with it is 508 damage boosting up to 10-11 times with Temple Glove.

not to memtion the plus 48 attacks from hook, amemet mental, kote and earings

attack has nothing to do with chi blast.

just because boost affects attack doesn't mean attack affects chi blast. berserk does nothing for attacks. mithkabobs do nothing for attacks. my naked chiblast has done 35 damage since the day I got it and my attack is considerably higher than it was back then.

I thought it had to do with the difference between your boosted and unboosted attacks... I can definitely see now that MND affects it.

In beta, my Chi Blast was basically Boosted Attack - Base Attack + 30. The other day i finally leveled my MNK again after over 4 months of not touching it and got Chi Blast again. I thought they nerfed it since it was so much lower. However, after reading this, it makes a fair amount of sense. In beta I wore a peacock charm, I now wear the Combat Caster's Cloak (MND-2) and a Spike Necklace (MND-6). I'm guessing the MND-8 made the big difference. I haven't played around again with MNK yet to confirm, but from my experience the other day, I was doing about 100 less damage after a full 3-minute boost series than I did in beta.

Fully boosted with +mnd equipment (promise badge, serenity rings, etc) there is potential for nearly 1000 damage with chi blast. Before subtle blow existed, a lot of monks used only their chiblast to fight HNM's with.

Attack does effect Chi Blast, try it out for yourself. Food and berserk do increase your damage, sometimes it's not very noticable. I don't understand how you came to that conclustion. I suggest you read up on how damage is calculated, and how STR and Attack effects Damage.

I had to edit this post, because it was very rude before. I'm sorry.
