  • Question about Monk Weapons

Well, I'm taking up Monk as my 2nd job (I plan on taking it to 70+ along with my Bard) so I'm looking for some information.

Monk Weapons are different from all other weapons in that they are based on our natural H2H speed and then add +Damage, and +Delay.

What stats in a weapon are important? Is it better to get something with lots of +DMG and not worry about the delay? Or is there a certain mix of things that you should try and get?

I'm currently level 16 using Burning Cesti and I have a pair of Tropical Punches (Damage sucks when I use these though), but I haven't been to a town since level 12 to buy new weapons.

What weapons are good to have, and what stats should I look for? Is it a good idea to carry multiple weapons (one with +Accuracy, another with +Damage, and another with +0 Delay)?

I noticed the Tropical Punches +1 cost a ton on the AH... are these a good investment for my level 16 MNK? Gil isn't a problem ( I have around 300k I can spend on Monk) so just wondering what's best for me.

    Thanks!

TP's REALLY aren't worth the money.
You should be able to ride your cesti until you can use the cougars,
and you'll be fine with those until you can use the impacts.
    Rude, but not wrong. ;x

i'd like some of the same information.

basically the point onf dmg vs dly:

1? damge > all ? aslong as the dmg is highest for current lvl its all good?

      2? delay > all ?

3? some kind of algorythm to find a balance between dmg/dly ?

i know not to take affects into consideration unless its +some nice stat because the affects on weapons have a (generally) low proc rate.

ive tried both ways, and i prefer damage over delay.
I compared Impact Knuckles(86 delay, +6 dmg i think) to beat cestis(46 delay, +3 dmg again i think) and my damage output was a lot lower, dropping my damage output by 10-15 per fist. and i didnt notice the delay difference(maybe the lower damage was the only thing catching my attention)

when i look for a weapon to use, i take 2 things into consideration, the damage and the stats boost, delay is looked at last if the 2 items have comparable stats, but i dont base much on delay.

i prefer dmg over delay, too. the main reason that I chose this way was more WS dmg.

u won't have that much of choice anyways until 50's, but w/ Cermet Clows at 59, ppl start to choose. most of 60+ MNK's, if not many, tend to choose more dmg & delay ones, but there r onces who choose to go w/ lower delay weapons such as clows. of course, as u choose to go w/ ones w/ more delay, u'll need a certain amount of accuracy.

i usually use Feral Fang, but when i fight mobs w/ high evasion, i sometimes switch to Siva's Clow, which gives Accuracy+8. w/ my gears of Acc+30, this isn't normally the case, but when a party lacks a BRD, sometimes switching to Siva's Clow helps.

            PT: Feral Fang
            vs High Evade: Shiva Claw
Solo: Narasimha Cesti or Shiva Claw

Usually I prefer Damage over delay, but I like zero delay on Narasimha while solo vs spellcasting enemies and those susceptible to kakutou because of the speed, and for spellcasting, I interrupt almost everytime (On Feral or Shiva, there's usually enough lapse to let enemy get off some decent spells, like Banish3 -_-)
