Why do people se this combo as bad? You get very nice attack bonuses, Last Resort to stack to Focus, and later on, Souleater to use your massive HP on. At level 33 I can outdamage and pull aggro off of my party members easy. Does this change later on, tell me why people say this combo isn't worth it.

First of all, Berserk is more effective than Last Resort. The only other thing you really get is Souleater, but Double Attack and Attack+ traits from WAR sub will give you more damage than using Souleater (plus you don't loose HPx2 - each punch drains HP). WAR sub also gives you more defense, STR, and VIT than a DRK sub. To me right there is enough reasons to stick with WAR. Not to mention as an elf you'll have next to no MP, rendering your drain and other spells useless... I doubt you'll even land drain considering how horrible Elvaan int is. Maybe as a taru this would be feasible but I still don't think it would work out...

But hey, by all means give it a shot and tell us how it works out. Do me a favor and try switching back and forth between WAR and DRK sub to see the difference in your fighting effectiveness.

By the way, pulling aggro off the main tank isn't exactly something to brag about. It's cool and all to say that you can do that much damage, but is it really helping anything but your ego? No.

I think he means that by pulling aggro, he's got the "provoke" emergency portion of a war sub.
Last Resort is sort of a 2/3 provoke, and does more dmg than Berserk, however, it doesn't last as long. I've been told it works better on WS than Berserk as well, but i believe at lvl 50, nothing that the /drk gives you can compete with double attack.

BY lvl 51 you can attack 5 times if you're lucky enough. By lvl 60, with war subbed you also get the atk up, which wit zerk makes it more effective.

/drk gives you a total of 2 atk ups by lvl 60, some magic that isn't worth using if your int is bad, and if you invest on int + items, you're losing out on acc, and atk items. And Souleater + LR can do some major dmg with your ws, however, you'll have to be doing alot of strategic changes to your gameplay as those could pull too much aggro, and at lvl 60+, a monk's def (esp, without /war) isn't going to hold you up for long.

But as said previously, sub both, and let us know how it works out for you. If SE + LR+ 2 ATK UPS, with weak = ZERK+DOUBLEATK+1ATK UP in the end, then by all means post here and let us know for sure that there are other options out there for monks.

From what's been said previously though, you can get away with any sub before lvl 30, after that, you have to be a bit more careful.

Check the stat bonuses again. Drk sub actually gives more vit and the same str as war sub. :p

DRK sub is as good as a NIN sub for MNK...just go WAR or THF(60+).

I noticed an increased damage for dragon kick with thf subjob. usually with war sj i average about 600-800 on IT's with bard acc/atk song + berserk but with sneak/trick attack i was able to do high 900-1000's.

THanks for your imput, I'll try to try both subs but...That means I have to level up war :sweat: but when I get the chance to try both, I'll post and let you know how it went.

Mnk/Drk is bad IMHO b/c souleater and last resort creates hate w/o landing a hit. So pulling hate can't determine your dmg output compared to others. Berserk gives more attck bonus and last longer than last resort so I don't see why you want to give that up at lvl 30+.

at lvl 50 lke everyone says double attck is a big bonus for us mnks and defender can save you when you get too much hate. Well now you can argue at lvl 60 if it's good but when you get dragon kcik you'll want to sub thf.. so subbing drk is really only debatably for a couple lvls for mnk.. so there's no pt..

what skill level is dragon kick at? is it the ws where the monk does a kick and a pillar of rock comes up from below the mob? im confused on the monk ws i have a video of them all but it doesnt say which is which ws :/

yes that's the only kick ws you'll see. Dmg is heavily depended on str, can chain off Fusion to produce light

so 2 mnks and 1 pld, skeleton crushing fun.

Monk/Thief at 60+ is not about doing as much damage as /war (you won't do as much), it's about putting the hate from your 400-1000 damage weaponskills where they belong, on the tank. I've yet to group with a single tank that I didn't take aggro from while using focus + berserk. And that's with the first of what I consider to be the "good" monk weapons still to come at level 48, no double attack, no kick, and no attack up. War sub would make monk an absolute machine at 60+, but I can't really see how the hell a pld could hold hate versus that unless you've got a thf doing sa/ta/dancing edge or a drk/thf doing ta/guillotine.

So, if they don't have either of those, they're going to ask you (the monk) if you have a thf sub, so that they can get all the benefits of your dragon kick (level 3 skillchain damage makes level 2 skillchain damage look pathetic, from what I've read) without the aggro. And, if you don't, they will keep on looking until they find someone who does. I doubt there's any shortage of monks.
