  • STR or DEX rings at high level

This is a pretty nubbish question, but even at level 61 I still am uncertain of which to pick. I'm a Galka, so my DEX is the same as a Hume monk my level. Currently I am using full AF (Alternating Ochiudo's Kote for Temple Gloves), Spike Necklace, Brown Belt, Spike Earrings, Amemit Mantle, Sun Rings and Bone Patas +1. I'm missing a lot more than I would like.
Most high level monks I've seen don't have much +accuracy or + dex equipment. I see practically all of them with Sun Rings. I was fighting Velociraptors in the Valley of Sorrows, and without using focus, it seemed like I missed 3/4 of the time, rarely connecting both attacks. But I've read I need STR to increase the curve of damge. I have +40 attack total when using Ochiudo's Kote, so I should have more STR to accompany it? Perhaps I should get one Sun Ring and one Flourite Ring? I'm planning on buying Spartan Cesti soon, but I don't know if the +2 accuracy on it will be enough. I won't be able to afford Spectacles anytime soon, so I would appreciate any advice from other high level monks.

I'm a lv62 Mithra Monk, and I've always used 2x Sniper Rings... I'm puzzled too as to why so many mnks barely use any +accuracy equips (Life Belt, Snipers, etc.) Especially at 60+, without a bard I find it hard to hit most solid IT mobs that give 200+ exp.

I thought that since I equip Brown Belt + Ochiudo/AF glove + Meat Mithkabob, I might as well invest in +accuracy for my other slots. I see monks with brown belt, 2x Sun Ring, Spike Necklace and wonder how they hit mobs when I'm having problem even with 2x Sniper Rings... =\

As an Elvaan MNK I get a lot more mileage out of Life Belt than Brown Belt. That combined with the +Accuracy on Jujitsu Gi / Master's Gi / Temple Cyclas has let me hit accurately on just about anything.

I use two Sun Rings, and I find that they help my damage potential a lot. MNK don't need a lot of accuracy (not nearly as much as DRK or DRG or SAM) but they do need some. Anywhere from +10 to +20 should be fine, and then you can concentrate on STR.

If you dont get life belt go 2xSniper rings or Peacock charm/Speactacles, you should at least have about +10acc, this goes for all melee with drk, drg&sam needing abit more also since mnk has better dex rating & 5acc on AF and Focus^^

at least thats imo, i use life belt+2x Sun Rings+Spike Necklace and Amemit Mantle if i can do limit3 and level up^^

Yes well that much is obvious. If I had enough money to buy a peacock charm, believe me I would . I really don't want to get a Life Belt, or sniper rings. I don't like the negative DEF on Sniper Rings (Yes monks shouldn't tank), and I love my Brown Belt too much. I'd really like to know why so many high level JP monks don't really concentrate on accuracy at all. I can't help but feel like they know something we don't. =.=
BTW, I ended up just using one Sun Ring and one Flourite Ring.

The way i see it as i'll be approaching that lvl is that I'm gonna wear life belt and jugitsu gi and be happy with my acc....

Not even getting brown belt untill i can afford either spectacles or 2 x snipper rings...

and i'm planning to go sun rings

I'm a fan of +STR, and I'll stand by that so beyond that acc, +str will be my main concern

what items can you use that add dex and or accuraccy? becasue i want some dex+ stuff but most of my dex comes from rings.

But if i switch out my rings with STR ones, where will i get my dex from?

first of all, there's no right answer to this kinda questions, so just take my comments as a 3rd person's advice.

as an Elvaan, my accuracy really sucks. w/ BRD, i do ok, but without them, i miss too many times than i should be allowed to. so i use; Life Belt, 2* Sniper Rings, and Grand T.K. Collar (when where we fight is in controll of other nations. otherwise, spike necklace). along w/ Temple Cyclas, this adds up to +30 on accuracy, and i won't have a problem w/ hitting average. (Scorpion Harness will be better, but i can't afford it.)

now, here comes a trick. as u'd already know, H2H weapon skills r 2 hits, even when they don't say so. like Howling Fists and Dragon Kick, they don't say they r 2 hits, but they indeed r. now, STR plays a big roll in determining WS damages, but if u r subbing WAR, u might wanna concentrate on landing both hits which eventually end up w/ more damage than 1 hit.

however, if u sub THF, which i do most of the time, u won't have to worry about accuracy coz u have 100% accuracy w/ Sneak Attack. so, what i do is to switch to STR-boosting gears right before renkei, namely 2* Sun Rings, Spike Necklace if using Grand T.K. Collar, and Black Cotehardie, and swith back to accuracy-boosting gears once done. (of course, i have a macro for switching gears. and i don't use Ochiudo's Kote, so Temple Gloves all the time.) doing this has brought up the WS damage by 100-200 w/ my Dragon Kick. there r other, and better STR-boosting gears, but i just don't have enough money for them.

not many ppl care to swith gears during the battle, but doing so makes big differences.

at any rate, u can try both, and see for urself which is good. or u can switch between them like i do, too. remember, u r the one who decides.

In my opinion, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts...

For me, the concentration on a balance of accuracy, attack, and strength has been much more productive than the fixations on any individual...
