    even though this is a bit belated. to the poster : your to low to be in dunes so uhhh yea until you hit like 13 your not gonna really hit a lot or do much damage sorry. and your complaints about not having money annoy me, so many ps2'ers have been begging for money on my server its aggravating. learn to do quests or something or anything for money at your level. at lvl ten its not like you need a huge income anyways unless your nin/rng so quit whining and do something about it

      "This game is getting ridiculous."

      How dare someone with an advanced job, a higher level, a subjob, and better equipment (possibly using food), outdamage me? This game is utterly ridiculous!

        dun worry, mnk pays off in the end. the damage bonus vs bones is simply.... disgusting >.>

        given that this is the high for the mnk and low for me in this PT, the fact that the range stretches this far is sickening ;

          I'm assuming Yuh is the monk...Dorago the pld?

          I mean damn man, if Dorago's the pld...I wouldn't worry so much about the monk hitting for 50% more (per fist) than you as I would the pld hitting for only 20% less.

            Here's my cheap food recomendation:

            Carry around a stack of Hare Meat (you can farm it yourself as a newbie around Sandoria)
            buy a stack of Dried Marjoram.

            Fire Crystal + Hare Meat + Dried Marjoram = Grilled Hare

            Success for this is level 0-6 cooking skill, you can do it with no skill at all.

            Grilled Hare= +2 Strength, -1 Int (who cares), +10.9% attack
            lasts for 1 hour (2 times as long as Meat Mithkabob)

            A stack of dried marjoram will cost you around 400-500gil from npc (I forget which region it grows in, I found it in Sandoria usually) or maybe 1k from price gougers at AH. ^_^; Grilled Hare does not stack, but you can make it as you go or whenever you have a spare Fire Crystal. It's good enough for lower levels and will cost you a heck of a lot less than mithkabobs... cooking is kind of fun too. ^_^;

            Ack... now everyone knows my secret!

              *points at the above post*

              this is what I did until I hit MNK20/10 and went to qufim. its especially useful for leveling to ~13 in W.Ron/LaThiene, because there are always rabbits around for meat, and orcs around for fires. I killed one of each once an hour, synthed, and was ready to rock for another hour.
              when you get more money or get serious about leveling, do yourself a favour and switch to mithkabobs. Until then...

                remember you need dried majorum for grilled hare meat also. ^^

                I had the same problem when i leveled my mnk in Valkurm, i barely did 0-10 dmg. Mnks suck against IT or VT at low lvs, even at lv 30 i see a mithra mnk hitting a mandra for 0-5 dmg.
                Thats odd. Now, i'm elvaan, so my dmg should be somewhat higher than mithra, but at lvl 30, i hit anywhere from 20-40 per hand (with buffs, food, etc) pretty consistantly against IT mandragoras. criticals from 40-80.

                  Use Boost. Constantly.

                  Macro Boost with a timer. Any time you are not doing damage against a target, just start using boost constantly. You won't be swinging as often, but you will hit more often, and for actually damage, instead of just 0-1 points per hit.

                  Basically, the effects of Attack do not scale in a linear fasion, so when you are doing only marginal damage against a target, a slight increase in Attk will have a relatively large effect on your damage and hit ratio.

                  Conversly, if you are reliably hitting and damaging targets, then the slight increase in attk will not have a large effect on one's damage per unit time.

                  I was intensly frustrated while fighting in the dunes, until I discovered that, myself.

                  This is one of the things I really like about the Monk class; while ti may seem to be a simple class on the surface, it has a suprising depth and subtlety to it.

                    oops, thanks for the recipe correction brennon *^_^*

                    I don't specifically recall my damage being that aweful in valk, except against those damned crabs. Nothin we can do about that, we suck against creatures with hard shells. certainly I was hitting for more than 0-5, though. Since kazham when I took some time off to pimp my equip, I don't think I've been outdamaged by a melee at all. There was a very well equipped RNG that kicked my ass, but... duh.

                    I'm finding it hard to agree with the "non-stop boosting" thing. It seems like a lot more hassle than its worth. Especially without the AF gloves. It doesn't raise you accuracy in any way I've noticed, and the damage it produces is negligable at best. I was told on another thread that Boost produces hate, and therefore it makes sense for tanks to spam it, which is interesting. Not for us mnks though. Boost between battles (especially when you get HaDouKen) and Boost in your renkei macro, but otherwise I'm not convinced it's worth the trouble.

                      A tad low for Valkurm as most of mentioned and since you're new, you're insanely poor and don't have the money to boost your DMG up.

                      Just started up MNK and having the extra STR on ya makes a world of difference.

                      Btw, Tropical Punches = very good if you can afford the other equpiment upgrades. the +10 accu is nice but the +0 delay is a much better bonus if you ask me since you can easily compensate for 1 or 2 DMG points on your weapon. 30+ It's another story however.

                        I'm assuming Yuh is the monk...Dorago the pld?
                        Well, the figure he wants us to see. Is Awntawn (him) doing 70 damage. Now, being a dark knight, you have to assume that he's wielding some kind of dual handed weapon which should be on-par with two hits from the monk. However, his one swing 70... is less than one swing from the monk, and is completely dwarfed by two swings that do over 100 damage per fist.
