Necessary upgrades.

I'm up and coming on level 40. And there's an ass load of upgrades at that level i need, and i can barely afford the cheap crap i'm wearing right now (Soil Hachi, Mercenary Doublet, Battle Gloves, Windurst Kyahn, Soil Sitabaki, etc).
Are monks expected to have these upgrades at level 40? IE
Fuma Kyahn (I don't know how to spell)
Jujitsu GI/Sitabaki
Ochiudo's Kote
Emperor's Hair Pin
That's 700k+ Right there, and I can barely afford 50k worth of equipment. I have no real methods of making money, so it may just be me...

You can go without the Emperor Hairpin. I've tried it and didn't really notice the boost.

i'd say the first thing y should get is the jujitsu set i think thats a must have. then ochiudio's kote those r really nice. fuma kyahnns u can get after u have the first three things not really neccessary.

Only one out of those that i'd say you need is the Ochiudo's Kote, but im sure you can get by without having them for a while. I skipped all that (cept Kote which i farmed a week for at lvl 35).

Just try for Ochiudo's Kotes and possibly Brown Belt. Those will last for a long long time.

Actually, I think the only one you need is Jujitsugi because it comes with the nice accuracy bonus.

The sitabaki have a nice dex bonus and should be considerably cheaper than the gi. If I remember correctly, the sitabaki went for about 150,000 while the sitabaki went for around 16,000.

The kote is a nice luxury, but not totally necessary. If you can't afford it, the hume male RSE gloves are a nice alternative. The difference in attack may be striking at level 34, but as you get higher, the kote will have less and less impact on the actual damage you do.

Kyahan are nice, but not totally necessary. 3% haste is negligible. They're probably the best shoes for the level, but any boots will probably do just as well.

Likewise with the emperor's hair pin, although this should be considerably easier to farm, and I've heard it has a nice drop rate as well. Nice alternative to this would be Mercenary Captain's Headgear.

Don't waste time with the fuma or hairpin, personally I don't think they're worth it, and the money can be put to use later in the game on much better stuff. The gi is nice for resale value, and the kote will last you the rest of your life as a monk, so if you can afford/camp those, go for it.

Brown Belt is ok, personally I go with Life Belt because I'm elvaan and miss a whole bunch, even with enhanced focus. Still, it's a nice str bonus if you don't mind missing.

if possibly i'd like to get jugitsu GI, Brown Belt, Fuma Kyahan, and Kote myself..
cause if i do i won't have any expensive upgrade for a long time to come...

then again i've seen 62 mnks wearing purple belt, so no it's not a necesity

I just tagged 42, so I'm in more or less the same boat.

I just got my kote, but they set me back 450k on ragnarok. That pretty obviously makes them a luxury item, not required equip (but they /are/ my pride and joy)

VE hairpin isn't required at all. I'm farming for it now, but only becuase I think the merc capt headgear I'm wearing now is ugly. If you aren't as vain, stick with the headgear.

It /is/ assumed in pts that you will be wearing the jujitsu gear. Most monks I've talked to /include/ the fuma kyahan with the jujitsu gear. to get all 3 pieces is a couple days of farming, but without it you'll be seen as gimp. I'm personally skipping the kyahan because I prefer the str+3 I get from my rse boots, but thats just me.

Brown Belt vs. Life Belt is a battle royale that I'm not gonna touch here. As long as you have one of em, you aren't gimp. If you get the brown, focus more on acc+ with the rest of your equip; conversely, life belt frees you up to focus on att+. unless you're elvaan, in which case get as much damned acc+ as you can...

I may have been gimp since i only had kotes and gambison/jujitsu satabaki till lvl 49 but i had no problems gettin into groups. I dont miss often (and dont have $$$) so i didnt need Jujitsu Gi (though i would have liked). Now I use shinobi gear.

an elvans acc isnt that bad, as long as u have life belt and jujitsu gi or masters gi u should be able to go with str and attack equipment with out any worries.

Right now im level 36, was farming for the ochuidos kote, but at 350K on my server, i decided i should wait on that item until i hit level 40 and can do BCNM(thank goodness for an awsome LS that lets a monk come along for them =)

heres what i have now and im hoping it lasts me till mid 40s(if you see anything that would be better, say somethign, i hate being a gimped monk =)
Im also elvaan, so accuracy up items are my friend =)

Earrings: I went with Beetle +1s here, thats +3 attack peice and on my server at only 8K a piece, its a good buy i think

Rings: Heres where i spent the money i had farmed with, Deft Rings, dex +3, damn expensive at 80K a peice, it hurt buying these, but hopefully they will help out my accuracy. I thought about buying 1 of these and 1 of the +3 strength rings, but couldnt decide. i figure as elvaan accuracy is probably better than strength.

Body: Jujitsu Gi(eventually), cant beat the +4 accuracy, runs about 120K on my server

Hands: Ochuidos Kote(eventually) not much to say about this, but if your a monk, you know what these are =) 350K right now, epp!

Belt:Life Belt at 48, Brown belt hopefully at 40 =) not 100% for sure on the price on the fellas, but probably not the most cheapest things to buy =)

Thats all i have so far, not for sure what i need for legs, im guessing Jujitsu Sitabaki?? +1 dex and +1 Vit doesnt hurt, or should i stick with my RSE for a while? +12 HP, +2 dex, +2 agi? that defiantly sounds like a better choice, less def, but you shouldnt be attacked very often =) best part about those is they are free =)

Feet, is that the Fuma Kyahan? i was looking through a database and couldnt find them on what they did or anything.

Head, i have the mercenarys stuff now, how long should i keep that for? right now cant find anything better, but its level 30 equip =)


so all in all, im looking at i figure around another 800K total? to get me the best possible setup at level 40? man thats a lot of gil =)

So my setup is so:

Emp hairpin
Spike necklace
jujitsu Gi
Iron subligar +1 (left over from warrior)
fuma kyahin
Brown belt
2 sniper rings (or 2 of the +3 strength rings but to be honest I seem to be always using the sniper since without them I miss too much for my taste0


So my question to you is. Am I okay keeping the Iron +1 subligar (or actually I usually use the bastokian one because of the +attk even though it is not much)

Do I need sitabaki...it is only +1 dex and +1 vitality. How long can I go on neglecting leg armor?

I don't know about your server, but on mine, jujitsu sitabaki is like 5-7k gil. Bastokan subligar costs more, heh. I don't think anyone will question the gear worthiness of someone wearing (at least on my server) a 200k headpiece, a 70k chest, 90k boots, 300k waist, two rings that are 300k each, and I'm assuming a 350-380k pair of gloves (although you didn't list).

I don't think you need to worry about someone looking at your leg armor and wondering why you don't have better gear.

Actually I have the sitabaki but I just think that subligar looks better.......I know my character is pretty vain.

But in my defense I just came from being a lvl 48 warrior wearing /shudders brigandine +1. I had to switch jobs before I went insane.
