  • Any MNKs lvling Throwing?

Most of the Combat Skills are easy to level. I hear guard gets easy to level if you sub as WAR and act as tank. Thats fine. But how do I level my Throwing skill? Is there an easy way? What Throwing weapons can I use lvl21?

So far I've only been able to equip pebbles. I tried leveling it while PTing but it has an insanely long delay. Playing solo it takes a long time to level. It may not be all that important to a MNK but I'm just curious. Does anyone know?

yeah, i dont think monks have any ranged weapons, which puts us at a huge disadvantage when it comes to camping NMs pre-level 41...

thats the current situation im in... either go with monk/war and have provoke to pull... or go with monk/thief for TH1. so far for the last 2 nights ive been the only one camping the NM so it hasnt been a problem, then again when more than 2 people show up, i might as well give up because i would have to engage the creature before the other campers got thier spells/ranged weapons off.

anybody have any suggestions on how to pull as a monk/thief that doesnt have chi blast yet?

dont worry about throwing pebbles, soon you'll get chi blast which is one of the best pullers in the game !

I would actually like it if Pebbles stacked to 99 (no idea why they don't). The next throwing a MNK can use is Tathalums at level 35, but I think a stack of 99 of them has only been sold like 5 times at the Jeuno AH on Ragnarok. An NPC shop sells them in Rabao, but I really don't want to have to go all that way and pay through the nose for 99 of them.

I would get some good damage off of them though - off of a Pebble I can hit an even match for 20-25 damage....so using a throwing weapon that actually has some built in damage on it might be interesting.

This would mainly be for farming as with THF subbed you only get Chi Blast once every 3 minutes, and when you are fighting for Tabar spaws in Saromugue, that isn't going to cut it.

As a Mnk/Thf like me (30/15) I use steal to pull, because if you put it on macro (targetnpc & steal) your facing the monster, and hes close you will get the pull, but if hes at a distance you will have to run to him and steal which means your prolly not gonna get him unless the other guy is lagging/sux at NM camping.

thread starts with asking about how ppl level throwing and then all of a sudden everyone is talking about grabbing NMs ><

I level throwing as warrior.. not really level it though, it usually goes up when i pull and that is my tip: level it with boomerang as warrior, its alot cheaper^^

There's no real reason to level throwing for a monk, hit or miss, the mob is going to lock on to you and follow. Only reason I can think to care is if your going to spend 5k on a stack of Thatulms<Sp?>, you might want to land some hits with them.

As others have said, use a boomerang with war or thf as you level up, last time I leveled my thf, everytime the puller would come within range I'd hit my boomerang. You could also use a mnk/rng for some elemental or gobbue farming (somthing where widescan is useful) and level thowing then...

Also, LOL!, guard is never easy to raise, I don't care if you tank all your way to 60, I bet it'd still be under the cap. I'm pleased as punch my guard is 113.4 at 61.

Monk throwing skill is pretty bad from what I've read/seen.

I level throwing skill as a WAR/THF/NIN with a simple ol' boomerang or darts. Darts are easy to synthesize but even easier to buy since you lose money synthesizing them and you can buy darts at most chocobo stables.

It'd be nice to see throwing weapon skills, then there would really be an incentive to use a throwing weapon to pull rather than bow & arrow/crossbow & bolt/gun & bullet (God forbid! as bullets tend to be expensive).

Thanks for all the advice guys I'm doing exactly what you've suggested. I'm leveling throwing with my sub(WAR). I felt there was a need to focus on this skill. Was just curious if anyone else was doing it.
