  • Which job is the best for me?

    I'm getting the game for PS2 in about 2-3 weeks, I was wandering which job is the rarest out of these;

    #1. Dragoon/Warrior
    #2. Paladin/Warrior
    #3. Monk/Warrior

    I want to be a monk, but one of my friends are going to be a ninja/thief, and another friend is going to be a Samurai/warrior... I don't want to be the same kind of class (armor drops), So I want to be either a Dragoon or Paladin, I think. Can someone tell me which job best fits my job description:

    I want to be a rare class at higher levels. I want to be able to solo NM's around my level range. And I want to be wanted in Parties.

    Please give me some info on the jobs, without saying "Go with what you want, we shouldn't choose your job for you. Test them out and choose what you want, and more power to you!"

    Thankyou.

    You'll be buying and questing for the majority of your armor, so don't let that be one of the factors. None of those jobs are really rare, but sounds to me like you guys need a tank.

    Your friend will find out that NIN/THF isn't very worthwhile, in which case he may want to go NIN/WAR, making him the tank. Dragoon and Monk are both great damage dealers.

      I'm kinda leaning towards dragoon/warrior, but are there way to many already?

        There are so many people in FF you can't create an unique job unless you go for weak combo ;;

        DRG/WAR, not much special at early lvls, after 49, they get the almighty Penta Thrust, and with that, you are 1 of the best damage dealer ^^

        PLD/WAR, you can get party real easily with this combo, because we all need tanks but on attack wise, PLD is the 2nd weakest in melee...

        MNK/WAR, Being a MNK myself, I would prefer THF sub after 30, for sneak+ws... but MNK/WAR works perfect as well... problem is, same as DRG, MNK is a damage dealer... not many will go specific on damage-dealer, and there are more damage dealer class than tanker/mage... so lots of rivals when finding PT.

        As for rare, mages are the rarest, with Bard at 1st, Black mage 2nd.... There is always a shortage of mage... but I would just say, test them out yourself, if you like melee, stick to your melee choice, etc

          If you pick Bard, which weapon do you level up? And can you level up instruments, like weapons?
          sorry for posing this on monk page...

            ONESTEVEG:

            If you want to do bard, do this:

            Level up whm to 18
            Level up blm to 15 (whm sub)
            Level up whm to 30 (using blm sub) - work on your Staff skill
            Level up warrior to 11 or so, your main goal here is to cap sword skill
            THEN level up bard (sub whm), using sword up to level 11/12, at which point you will never have to actually worry about your weapon again, because you aren't expected to melee. Pretty much the best bard weapon in the game is the Monster Signa (Staff, +8 cha), but since it's a level 17 weapon you'll never do much damage with it anyway. It can be fun to do weapon skills from time to time, though, so that's why I recommend leveling up Staff skill a bit with your whm.

            Singing, Wind, and Stringed instrument skills all have to be leveled up, and have a "C" cap.

            To the original poster...If your friends are truly set on going samurai and ninja, then about the only choice you have if you want to be able to make good parties together is for you to either be a thf, brd, whm, or rdm. Standard party makeup is three melee and three mages, 25+ you always want brd and whm, 41+ the rdm also becomes a necessity.

            Ninjas, if they aren't tanking, are rather gimp for damage until high levels(katanas are barely any better than daggers for damage, and daggers are ass outside of Sneak/Trick/WS). So, you'll want to make the ninja the tank (which they are very good at). To facilitate this, you virtually have to have a thf to trick the hate onto the ninja, as they spend at least 1 out of every 3 of their attack rounds recasting utsusemi, meaning they don't attack so much, and since they don't do much damage in the first place, it can be hard for them to hold hate.

            Samurai / ninja / thf isn't exactly ideal for the three melee in a group, but it's quite workable. The only concern is that your damage output might not be up to par at higher levels...but by then you'll have figured out what to do on your own. ^^
            61 MNK | 37 WAR | 37 THF | 35 RDM | 29 BLM | 25 WHM
            Mithra retired November 2004 - Hume started November 2006
            28 WAR | 18 MNK | 15 WHM | 12 BLM

              Are monks in FF11 like the monks in EQOA?

                Paladin/Warrior is probably the most common advanced job out there, however, it is also one of the most needed, so don't let that deter you from becoming one.

                Monk is one of the rarer at higher levels, in part because some of the key Monk gear for higher levels is exceptionally rare, and obscenely expensive. On my server Ochiudo's Kote goes for $350,000 gil, and that's one of the cheaper prices I've heard quoted for it.

                Though I will second what Cali says about Mages being the rarest class. Every party has to have a White Mage, and there have been many times when there haven't been nearly enough mages, of any class to go around on the server I'm on.

                Even Galkan White mages get invite by the dozen, and considering Galkan proficency with magic (or lack thereof), that's saying something.

                  don't melee as a bard, its 90% a waste of your time, if u even have time to melee, yes you are/can be that busy. i only goof off and melee to try and get ae ws's for when farming, and thats only when fighting the "tough" mobs to build tp on, like number 1 in the exp chain.
