  • Mithra Monks

    How do Mithra Monks compare to Elvaan monks? My friend was playing around with an Elvaan mnk, and it did pretty nice damage, but if/when I start playing I would prefer to have a higher/faster hit rate. The Mithras have way higher dex than the Elvaans, so would the dmg/time even out? Is there even that much of a dmg difference to begin with? Thanks.

    The attack rate is dependent on weapon delay, not dex.

      In the long run, you will be sorely lacking in STR, but have an outstanding DEX. In light of this, however, Your weapons attack delay and your current level's Martial arts bonus determine your rate of attack. You'll find yourself hitting more often, but for less damage in most cases, which is the inevitable trade-off. Also, accuracy from DEX has caps, so having a much higher DEX is not necessarily 'better' (so to speak) than having the STR bonuses that, say, a GAL or ELV would have. In your search for equipment, just do as most others do, look for Att+ and Acc+ and STR when ever you can...and you'll find you can compete with the best of them from any race...

        Another problem being a cat-monk is.... we have low VIT and MND.... which affect our Chi Blast and Chakra ;_;

          excuse me but what does mnd have to do with anything?

          Mithra monks works just fine.. you will not hit as hard as elvaan or galka but be more accurate. The differece could be minimal though if you solely go for attack and str while elvaan/galka go for dex/acc

            According to my japanese friends, MND affect the power of Chi Blast, which ultimately leads to Elvann being the best MNK, they have best MND, no? and they are melee-built

              I don't know if mnd affects chi blast or not but even if it does its not like Chi Blast is used for anything important besides the occasional pull. On the other hand I found out you could stack boost with chi blast and doing a chi blast for 300+ damage is just funny :spin:
              The lack of Str and Vit are really what hurt mithra the most imho. They have to find their own balance of +Acc vs +Str/Atk. Other than that their fine as monks. Taru's on the other hand... :p

                I don't see how Mnd affects Chi blast either. If that was the case then using boost would not increase the dmg. As it does though it leads us to believe that its based on attk.

                  Its just what my friend told me... I never said its true =_=;;

                  Anyway, rather or not MND affect Chi Blast or not(not gonna buy a bunch of MND equip to test it lol), we only use it for pull, so the damage isnt important... But we mithra do suffer from Chakra...

                  Personally, I don't think mithra monk is weak or anything *points at job* no one will laugh at themselves, right?

                    well, monks have one of the highest mind stats in the game, that could be a reason to have it so.

                      Your gear matters far far far more than your race. In a perfect world, everyone would have ochiudo's kote at 34, fuma kyahan at 39, jujitsu gi and brown belt at 40, life belt and patas+1 at 48, cross-counters at 50, etc...but, this isn't a perfect world. Most people I've leveled up with are missing spells, have underleveled subs, and have subpar equipment. By having good gear, it's easy to outclass anyone, no matter your race.

                      That said, I like mithra monk, personally. The extra dex helps, and while the low str and vit are annoying, they're far from handicapping. So an elvaan busts out a 3-hit raging fists for 300 damage, and my 5-hit only does 425. ^^ I can live with that... Also, mithra is much more versatile for leveling other jobs than elvaan or galka, second only to hume in versatility.

                      Considering monks are a class that is extremely dependent on accuracy at all levels (our very first WS is a multi-hit, after all), I'm happy with my choice. The only time I could see a galka or elvaan outclassing mithra is if they all have the same (very good) level of gear, to the point where the mithra's dex advantage is immaterial because of so much +acc. This may become an issue for me at 48+, but it hasn't yet, so far.
