  • Why do i feel so weak??

    i know im a realy low lvl hehe only lvl 9 about to ding 10(woot counter hehe) but i feel realy weak. im a mithra and my hits are average on decent to high easy's 9-13(13 being rare) on low easys(ones that give 25exp-18exp) i usualy always hit for 15-16. now on like the lvl 1 mobs right outside the city gates i always hit those 20-21 per hit. i mean how would it be if im in a group fighting toughs i only hit for 13max on decent. i thought monks are supposed to do good damage, or are monks a class that grows into power? like in the lower lvls kinda weak and when the monk starts getting up there i will become realy strong hehe? i just started thinking about this cause my redmage uses a spatha(sword: 11/244) so she gets just as many attacks in same time as my monk does but even though she is a redmage she hits 16 almost always on decent and some evens. at first i thought it was mobs so i tried on diff mobs and same results. so pls tell me if we get alot stronger or is it just because mithra is a bad race? i hope not hehe cause wouldnt want to be anything else.


    k now after that long boring post i got 1 simple question:What is the advantage of dual wield/monk 2 hits over a fast weapon that gets in 2 attacks every time a dual wield goes off? besides being able to have 2 weapons with stats on what are the advantages

    Im a monk lvl 14... I hit tough monsters for 10-15 damage... And when I boost and combo I can break 100 (not vs tough/high def) but still

    You get tougher as you level up, also remember to upgrade weapons, like legionaire/tropical punches at 10 (if you can afford)

      uhh hrm.. ur question seems to use improper vocab (i think) but if ur question is why u hit so unfrequently and do the same damage? then heres my response. 1st a spatha w/ 233 (i think u were wrong ) delay has a shorter delay then your fists
      to beging ull have a base delay that drop w/ each martial arts u get (they stack in ur job qualities menu so dont worry if u only see one)
      MA0 480 (a non-monk main or sub using fists)
      MA1 400(Lv1)
      MA2 380(Lv16)
      MA3 360(Lv31)
      MA4 340(Lv46)
      MA5 320(Lv61)
      so in the forseeable future a spatha will always hit more often then ur set of punches, but u hit twice so as long as ur grapple weapons have no more then +66 delay ull hit faster then or just as fast as a spatha (cuz u get 2 hits per hit)
      now onto why u hit for so little, sigh i used to have the forumla 4 this but i misplaced it. basically what it is is that the +damage from ur grapple weapon is added onto a formula that gives your base damage (your damage w/ out a weapon) the number that it gives will increase as you lvl (its based on ur attack, str, and h2h skill) (this is also why grapple weapons +dmg, and +delay dont change much as you lvl) so early on ull do slighly less then a spatha, to improve all this use tropical punches of th rank 1 cesti from San'd and use food like meat mithkabob or pretty much all cooked meat (not fish)

          this one has me a bit confused are you talking about combined dmg with your hand to hand (ie 6+7=13 ) or just 13 with one hand?

          if your talking with just one hand rember 13+13 = 26


          i had this sinking fealing when i saw some one working witha sword in my early days he was doing 20+ a shot and i was doing 10-13 per hand. then i rembered i do attack twice lol
          you might be a king or a little street sweeper, sooner or later you dance with the reaper.

            Yes Monks get better, I had the same feeling as I was leveling in the beginning. Also plenty of people trying to tell me Monks weren't any good in higher levels. Someone even told me 30-40 it would be difficult to find groups.

            But .... not true so far I = or + dmg pretty much everyone in the group ( Not everyone, a smart thf is very nice dmg.^^ ) Also I get invites without having seeking on. So if you enjoy being a Monk stick with it. As for the Rdm thing, funny you say that but I kinda hang out with some japanese people on a regular basis. Friend is a 57rdm/all kinds of subs. I'm 20 levels lower and her dmg is hardly better then mine only really on things that are >tough. Just remember to update equipment, +str / + attack should be top priority since it's not your job to tank.

              yeah i'd say monks maybe grow into a little more damage.. and also, monks rip apart bone-types compared to sword-weapons

              Anyways.. as an example i was fighting Evil Weapons in Champagne errr.. whatever.. i was doing maybe 20-30 in average per punch and a warrior with great axe was doing maybe an average of 40.. now this means i do a little more damage but the thing is the warriors WS did maybe 40 damage and i did combo+sneak attack (Theif sub) and i got of 202damage once

              and i havent really seen any drk's outdamage me more noticable..

              The evil weapons were Very Though / Inc Though btw
              I also love always having the most HP in the whole party (unless there is a big ugly galka which is Monk too..)

                Ok this is the same problem ive been having i keep looking at this guys damage thinking im weak. But then on warriors they deal say 30 dmg and wait about at 200+ delay my cougars do 18 and then maybe a 22 thats 40 and then i end up hitting again before he does, also is this better?
                Tropical punches +1 or 0 dmg
                Delay 0
                Accuracy +10

                Cougars +6 dmg
                Ice damage
                +4 {thunder}
                Delay is either 51 or 61

                  TP's aren't really worth the 10k+ they're usually sold for until later lvls.
                  You won't really notice the .51 extra seconds from cougars,
                  but you will notice the damage.
                  Always try to go for damage before delay as a monk.

                    I have the same problem. I'm level 14 now (with warrior as a subjob) and I'm doing terrible damage. I thought monks were supposed to be good damage dealers? I'll do MAYBE 10 damage a hit against VT/IT monsters, and that's if I'm lucky. I swing just about as fast as I did with my great axe as a warrior (just a hair faster, not even worth mentioning) and as a warrior at this level I could be doing 25-33 damage a hit, sometimes more. I really dont want to go back to warrior cause that class was kinda boring to me, but when does my monk really start to shine?

                      Monks are a damage dealer, just a different kind. Their double attacks for medium damage + higher than average dex let them dish out the pain better than other damage dealers on high evasion/low def monsters.

                      However on high defense monsters their attacks are simply not strong enough to get through. On monsters like that (crabs come to mind) a post 30 darknight has enough attack and str to do significant damage, while the 1h weapon/knuckle users can barely surpass single digits.

                        so in a group fighting IT monsters I'm basically useless? I understand I wont be great against crabs because monks aren't good against crabs at all (so ive been told), but even other types of monsters, if they're IT I wont be doing much damage? then what's the point of playing a monk? we can't tank, we can't solo, and in a group where we fight higher level monsters we can't even do damage? that's kinda crappy.

                          I felt left out in battles there for a while cause i thought i wasnt doing enough damage. Somebody in my LS suggested to me i up my strength as much as i could. That made all the difference in the world(+8 strength right now) fighting Very Toughs/Toughs i average about 15-21 damager per fist, its amazing the difference(only problem now is aggro, but having a smart tank in the group you dont have a problem) Even getting +1 or 2 tot he catagory will help your damage output.

                          Ohh and i think everybody is useless against crabs cept for BLMs =) in qufim, when they cast mettalic shield, that makes them one tough cookie to break.

                            alright, I'll buy a couple of those +1 str rings, I've got a power gi and a white belt so that'll be +4 strength right there, and since I'm galka i can just buy a bunch of giant sheep meat cheap and eat that for another 2 strength, that should help. thanks.
