  • 3 member party?

I have a question about a configuration I had in mind. I play in a half-static with my brother and cousin. They just got the Dragoon quest done (I had it since I was lvl 30 monk).

Would a 3 DRG/xxx party setup work? I was thinking, DRG/WHM or DRG/RDM would give us enough to chain T-VT mobs for good experience points...

    Any thoughts on this?

Your not going have enough mp to keep a drg tank alive though. I can't imagine it working, maybe if one person was a Pld then youd have more chance but without a mage everyone seems to die.

I would have to agree with that. You are going to need a pld or nin tank, preferably a pld or get a healing mage of some sort. Subbing whm or rdm will not yield you enuff mps to heal when needed.

Even that +50 MP would only give you enough MP for a single Cure III.

Leaving your wyvern to do the healing is risky. It'll only heal people when your HP hits red. That's not something a tank wants to see oftern.

You're going to have a very dead tank.

T-VT mobs, they will hurt you BAD. You won't be able to take the hits. You need a real tank.

At low levels, guessing maybe below 30, it is possible on mobs that don't hit hard with any specials. I've been soloing most of my exp from 1-28 (about 80% of it), many of it from toughs. Granted I have just about all the HQ/rare gear that ups evasion and eat fishkabobs to do it. Probably some 1mil in gear, haven't checked.

Most of my fighting is crabs--worms kind of bite with the AOE attacks that lower acc, dex, or specials that silence, bind, rasp, lower attack, etc. I've had very bad results from beastmen mobs, fish, and bats.

I've sort of hit a point of dimishing returns to soloing whole levels at this point, as it's dangerous to rely on healing breath at 33% hp. One slipup can mean no more fighting for 2 hours; at worst. Fights for decent exp keep getting harder, but I don't have too much trouble hitting over 1k an hour. Can't say how it is post 30, but considering the lack of PT invites, I might be soloing forever.

                Not really

I can't see three DRG working very well. Your tank would have to be /WAR and wouldn't take damage as well as a regular tank, or would be /NIN and the other DRG's would have to lower damage output to avoid hate. If /WAR, Heal Breath will be used a lot, but only at the point where death is equally likely. If /NIN, you shouldn't have to use Heal Breath, but will go through Shihei like nobody's business. /WAR will be quicker fights, but more likely to suffer deaths and the associated delay. /NIN will be longer fights, and the supporting DRG's are more likely to steal hate and die.

If there was breath boost equipment before the AF, it might be almost viable at lower levels. For instance, if S-E added a BCNM 10 and made a. . . ranged item? Then yes, it could almost work. You would also have to be a very synchronized team to trigger Heal Breaths simultaneously, control hate, etc.

Overall, though, I don't see it working above level 20. Perhaps DRG/WAR, DRG/BRD, and DRG/RDM might be the best way to do it. /WAR tanks, /BRD has Paeon going and attempts requiem, and /RDM pulls with Dia and cures as needed. /RDM can trigger Heal Breath with Poison for cheap cures. /BRD at about 30 can endlessly Requiem/Threnody for cures about as quick as Cure II's if it gets bad. If timed right, both wyverns will trigger to heal for a double heal--about 160 total at level 30. /WAR will need steamed crab or fish mithkabobs as well as optimal HP regen drinks. /BRD could use meat mithkabobs or sushi for better damage, drinks shouldn't be necessary except between pulls to attempt chains. /RDM will need the best pies money can buy and drinks to keep MP flowing. At 50 /BRD should be able to help /RDM with Ballad at the end of the fight and set Paeon just before the /RDM gets back with the pull.

Of course, and easier way to do this would be to just invite 3 non-DRG's into the static to fill the roles. A PLD, WAR or NIN, and WHM, BRD or RDM, along with whatever the best DD is available at the time (BLM/RNG/DRK/etc.). Imagine the look on the PLD's face when he hits red and two Heal Breaths trigger simultaneously.
                4 out of 3 people have a problem with fractions. . .

I say get a rdm to tank :spin:

no seriously rdm would fit perfectly... against T-VT mobs a rdm would have no problem taking hits w/ good gear, food, and phalanx. And the dragoons jumping he would have no problem holding hate either... a real rdm would have no fear w/ being at 50% hp :p and if he gets really low I don't think he would have a problem healing himself :spin: rdm will help out w/ in many other ways as well... basically, they are the only job that could buff, debuff, and cure all by themselves and I think they would be best suited for the job... they could aslo sleep adds if anything goes wrong. Basically the rdm would do a lot of the grunt work and the drgs would be there for the pure attack healing power, very flashy.

I'd do it... would be fun :D
...but I'd keep that reraise gorget handy

maybe next time I'll try it out when there are a bunch of drgs seeking :p
