  • Advice Needed

Ok, currently I am a level 35 Dragoon, and I'm having the hardest time finding a party.. I've been LFG for 2 weeks (6 - 12 hours a day) and not a single invite. I've tried to make my own parties but that always falls flat aswell.

I just don't get it. I have 38+16 STR 41+4 DEX and battle gloves. Since im a Mithra I focus mainly on STR since I don't have much of a problem hitting the MOB. I hit just as hard (or harder if you include the Wyvern) as any DRK my level but others just dont seem to understand that.

    Any ideas?

First tip, ignore the asshole above me.

Anyway, people tend to have a pre-conceived notion about DRG's, as most of them tend to mindlessly follow along with public opinion and never even invite a DRG to see if it was true. We call these people "sheep", and they go baa baa.

My notions aside, there is not much I can suggest. Try and go to a leveling spot and give some shouts, showing your knowledge of enemies and SC's. That is how I got my parties, before I joined an spt at around level 50.

If you have some friends, see if you want to form a static party. This will eliminate seeking and such.

Just a few tips. A sad reminder however, is that most people quit DRG before they hit level 50. To be truthful, it only gets harder after that. Prepare yourself for a tough road ahead. But it does give alot of time for farming and NM hunting ^_^

Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.

Again like Khaoes said, mindless sheep...
People fail to understand a DRK pre Guillotine or even pre Vorpal Scythe is a worthless DRK and just an XP leech. I love DRG's and I'll always advise to invite them over the other.

Please, don't encourage him. We get enough stupid remarks from him as it is. Can't he just be banned from the Dragoon forum? All his posts are the same anyway.

I like dragoon, (I think their AF is just the coolest looking) I will invite them any time I see some looking for party.....if rng, blm, or drk not available LOL

J/k seriously though I always invite DRG when I get the opportunity. They make great DoT DD's and sneak buddies.

But damn...that Kuai is only saying what's funny. Please don't take what he says to heart, no reason to get offended so easily on something as stupid.

Slayer, I feel the frustration you must be dealing with.

I decided long before I bought FFXI that I wanted to play DRG. I'd never played the previous versions of FF and didn't know about the character Kain. I used to love Panzer Dragoon on Sega and purple is my fave color. When I was watching my housemate playing and I saw a DRG run past in full AF my mind was made up. I had no choice, DRG it was going to be.

Then as I headed into La Thiene for the 1st time as a WAR I talked to a DRG and he gave me the tip of using a polearm from early on, which I did. At that stage I had no idea about the Penta-Thrust nerf. I'd just read Lance's FAQ on gamefaqs and thought it was all going to be fine & rosey.

By the time I'd got to Qufim as a DRG I was standing on the ice of the lake (avoiding the banshees) and struck up a conversation with a lvl48DRG who was fishing (Hello Pixx!). She was telling me about how hard she found it to get parties, and despite talking Japanese and having both NA & JP linkshells she still went for months without an invite. I live in Australia and when I'm on, there aren't many English-speaking players online. I've had JP invites and the majority of them have been great experiences, but I knew I couldn't rely on these invites. I was more than a little worried about the prospect of taking my chosen job to 75.

From that moment I gathered friends and made preparations to start my own static. Both of my housemates play and we started at roughly the same time. I waited for them to catch my level and we're about to start levelling from 40 onward.

Don't let the sheep bother you. Narrow-minded & l33tish players will propagate and poison most games (the reason I left Diablo2 & Bnet). Either find a LS with people of a similar level to you or try to form a static party and level together. FFXI's greatest, but sometimes-worst feature is partying. Having to rely on others can be a burden, but on the flip-side to have a static of 5 others that you become close to and learn to second-guess each others playing styles is a fantastic experience.

Hang in there, read as much as you can, don't be afraid to experiment and find what works for you and formulate opinions of your own. I know that I may not ever be lauded as some HNM or BCNM hero, but really, who cares? Have fun!

Just browsing all teh forums when i saw this.

The only fast ways to get a PT as ANY melee is to make them yourself. If you know what the right jobs, mobs, and lvls are then you should be set. For example at 35 you go to crawlers nest to fight the worker crawlers. Get a RDM with dispel or a BRD... or both :p Then the standard WHM,BLM,tank, and DD. Should be a solid PT as long as everyone knows what they are doing. Dispel is a must for crawlers because of their cocoon. Remember that.

now i wouldtn say EXP leech...we do get souleater at 30...but not the greatest melee...but yeah in 60 lvls of drk pting with a drg...he has out damaged me alot...people underestimate drg way to much...

in one PT our WHM had a parser and his wyvern out damaged the PLD and RDM combined(when the pld didnt use SCs)
