Yeah yeah....I know there are plenty of complaints with the WS and TP return. I am really pissed off about it too since I need that Penta SPAM to farm.

Is there ANYTHING we got out of this update that compensates for the TP loss?

OK...I can dismiss and summon my wyvern....and I got Spirit Link at later lvls....but besides that my dmg is still pale in comparison to others. I can live with not hitting as hard as other melees because I can spam ws to make up for it....and won't get as much hate since the dmg is spread out between me and the wyvern, but now.....

Maybe I am just too upset to see the + side of this....someone slap me and straighten me out please?

How does your damage, and that from your wyvern (combined)stack up against other damage dealers single swings? I've been wondering this.

Well, it works like this...

and this is not done scientifically in any means...it's only an example....

I hit for 40 - 45 dmg
Wyvern 10 -15 dmg

Total is 50-60 dmg approx

Other melee 50 - 60 dmg approx...maybe more

So in comparison, I do about the same damage or maybe a little less, but my dmg is spread over me and the wyvern....so the monster won't necessarily go for me...

I was just curious. If they can get it away from WS spam damage, and tweak Drg damage just slightly higher, it's actually a boost then no?

That kinda shoots my theory though. Oh well.

well it would give us a boost which we supposedly inherently have with the wyvern

the wyvern is supposed to be alive and you get to have its strength but its a seperate swing... wyvern can miss quite a bit

That's nice. I bet you also farm with Phalanx, Stoneskin, Cures and Refresh. Kind of makes up for the fact it takes you forever to kill stuff doesn't it?

Getting parties as a drg has always been nearly impossible (usually 2-10 hours of waiting for one), now it will be even worse, but that's not what I hate the most about this update.

I was going to leave my drg at 49-50 anyway, because I was sick of waiting forever. I only wanted to farm with penta. Now I might aswell just leave my drg at 47 and farm with double thrust. The TP gain is about the same anyway.

Let's be brutally frank: If you haven't played as a dragoon for very long, or aren't one at all -- you really are -not- qualified to comment on how this affects dragoons.

To all the people who say that this will prevent dragoons from spamming pentathrust in EXP fights; news flash! Most dragoons don't. Pentathrust isn't the only weaponskill hurt by the update(though I can't imagine how dragoons will handle Maat now.)
Other multi-hit weaponskills are hurt too, and each one makes the EXP grind that much less enjoyable and that much more difficult.

(With double attack passive and assuming at least one hit connects)

Double Thrust: 12-36 TP back --> 1-13.
Skewer: 12-48 TP back --> 1-14.
Penta: 12-72 TP back --> 1-16.

That is a BIG difference. And the reason why penta is so valuable for farming? Because dragoons cannot wear any armor that offers enough defense to make taking hits a viable alternative. The only way to fight EMs and below post 50 is to take them out before they take you out. That's the bottom-line. Other melee can wear chain armor and plate armor. Dragoons have to settle for scale (if you want defense) or cloth (if you want stats).

And yes, Ichirius is correct: You should play a job because you like the idea of it. I -liked- the idea. I don't anymore, and from the sounds of many posters... neither do they. I also don't understand how it balances the game out (Square's official line) so if someone could explain that clearly as well, it'd be appreciated. It'd be quite a different story if dragoons could hit penta nonstop, but they can't and don't.

Let me know what other reason there is for being a dragoon, unless you like the AF or having a wyvern around. It certainly won't be for keeping TP for skillchains, or for getting party invites. Or for farming anymore. Personally, I have come to believe that dragoons just don't have that much going for them, and while this patch may have affected all melee, it hurts dragoons much more.

That's my two cents anyhow. Responses are welcome.

Well, it is a valid arguement that this hurts dragoons farming ability, but seriously are we assuming that their farming skill is the worst now? Heck no. I can only assume that a dragoon can still farm with a bit more ease than a whm or brd.

I think penta-spam was probably nice for drg's while it lasted, but was it really all a drg had to offer before? Drg is still a very viable class it seems, with their jump abilities. Also, I'm assuming that pentathrust still does the same amount of damage.

Good god, with my whm and brd post lvl 20, it was a feat to successfully solo an easy prey, let alone DC or EM. So, it truly does sound a bit like balancing.

I can understand, though, why being a member of the nerfed class would be upsetting, but try to look at it from a third-person perspective.

Most mages I know farm by training a train (damned if that didn't sound redundant at this hour) of too weak mobs and casting AE spells on them. I can't honestly testify as to its effectiveness... but mages have gil somehow! Hehe.

Some melee to the same thing, but unfortunately... dragoons don't have any AE weaponskills (Leg Sweep isn't, I'm afraid) unless they use a staff... and Earthcrusher isn't a real winner either, I'm afraid.
