Penta damage = 0 ?

At level 58, ive spent some time leveling on crabs in Cape Terrigan and i noticed a really odd thing, why am i getting 0-56 damage using Penta on these particular crabs? At lease if you use Vorpal thrust , its dependent on the tp you have built up, whats with the crappy damage? I use a life belt and a coral gorget (cant afford the merman gorget yet) and either Roast Pipira or Mithbabobs. I cant tell you how depressing it is to see misses (which happen a lot at this level) when doing your WS in a Skillchain..

It is because Lance/Spears do crap damage to crabs, beetles and anything else that has armor. Penta sucks.

I sometimes hit it for 0 damage with penta because the crab boosted his defense. That's a given. But regular hits are about 5-7 damage......ALL other melee's do the same damage while the crab is boosted.

So yeah, it sucks when the mob has a "boost" abilit, but overall I can do nice damage comparable to the DRK's...so yeah...it really "sucks"

I know it's not the greatest WS nor the strongest, but it doesn't suck

Been there done that. Went DRG to 54. Everyone goes to the same levling spots. Crabs, beetles. Nothing that DRG's or anyone for that matter hit well against.

Penta does suck unless your farming. It offers no good skillchains. Hits for crap, misses alot.

Yeah battlespam runs fast and without a good RDM, its not easy... Sigh... just when the new updates come in, I hope theres something better than just jumping around and missing... That should be counted as a weapon bash equivalent...

The only reason he hit for 0 was either he missed all attacks or Stoneskin was up.

DRG deals out great damage as long as u have the best accuracy gear. A DRG with wyvern out is just as powerful ifnot stronger then a Monk.

You do realise that pentaspam builds a hell of a lot of enemy TP? All rdm's I know try not to PT with dragoons on crabs, especially pentaspammers, please just use vorpal ; ; I remember on one fight I used over 200mp with a dragoon who thought he was really cool because he could self reneki ; ;.

you saying you just have that equipment... of course your penta will deal 0-56 damage.... man at 58 you should at least make an effort go farming and get all the availalbe accuracy item...

I remember unless the crab boost defense... I will at least hit for 100-200 penta.... but it's not that bad 100-200 at that stage... you get stronger at 60 anyway when you use skewer... once you get skewer you rarely use penta anymore....

Not sure why you use Penta Thrust in a skillchain on crabs anyway. Double Thrust > whatever for Distortion is still generally the best for crabs at your level. The RDM who posted has a point, Penta is a superb way to annoy yourself and your party when you Penta and they spam stoneskin and def boost constantly.

Of course if the problem is landing hits...I had 2 Sniper Rings at 54, can get Assault earring at 58 (I didn't give this super high priority honestly, used 2 Coral earrings for a bit), Merman Gorget because its pretty cheap and not bad til the overpriced Peacock Charm. Life Belt is nice and all, but dirt cheap on most all servers. Definately need more than that. As food goes...I've never seen a reason to use Papira over Kabobs, but then again I never had really bad accuracy issues either I guess, and the ATK boost is quite noticeable.

1. Crabs dont have Stoneskin, something like it, but different.

2. Why would you be using Penta on crabs? A Distortion chain is a whole lot better then Spamming Penta.

3. Monk's can use all the same Acc+ gear and deal the same amount of damage if not more. Same principles apply to both classes using just about the best gear possible.

4. Gratz on beating Maat. As goes with Eq.

Metallic Body.

It's functionally the same as Stoneskin. Depending on what chat filters you have on, you'll even get a message saying "Robber Crab gains the effect of Stoneskin" when it does use Metallic Body.
