  • Future Dragoon wanting advice

Hi, I'm 5 days new to this game and I'm hooked.

I currently am a level 8 Galka Warrior. I want to become a Dragoon eventually. I've been using polearms, assuming that it's probably wise to raise the weapon skill so it's high when I do become a Dragoon - is this correct? Also, what is a good sub-job for a Dragoon? I want to be a heavy hitting melee Dragoon. I'm still trying to learn all the aspects to this game, so any advice and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

war or sam will be good sub jobs for dragoon.

First off, level Axe and/or Great Axe when leveling a warrior. There is no real point capping your weapon skill before you try an advanced job, skills go up fast, usually within the first 1000ish exp in a party per level at low levels. Its a mistake newer players make when starting out not using the preferred weapons of a job (mostly warrior) in order to skill up the weapon of the advanced job they intend to play. You are better use to a party using either of the previously mentioned weapons.

WAR is usually a good sub at all levels. Many people try THF sub too. That is ok til 50ish. Samurai has limited use, and only 60+ for meditate, otherwise its fairly pointless and doesn't help your damage output much.

Just keep you WAR sub until 60 then make up your mind then.

I used Polearm as a Warrior. I didnt just do it to cap my WS but it saves me money in the long run. Why buy all Great axes and Polearms from level 1-30 when you could buy just polearms.

Personally i feel Samurai Sub is overrated. IM sticking Dragoon/Warrior till 75, currently leveling thief for farming though since Doublet armor, Polearms, and +acc gear are expensive.

Well, I started out on PS2 release like alot others and starting using a Polearm early as I plan to switch to DRG once I hit lvl. 30. Someone told me to level up Great Axe, so I bought a Hellfire Axe (Kinda expensive ) but I love it. It does real good damage and I was able to level my G. Axe skill to lvl. 30 within a couple hours.

What you can is just get an Axe/Great Axe and keep the polearm. When you start reaching the lv. 10's you'll be capping Axe/Great Axe fast so when it's capped switched to Polearm and cap it till the next level. Then just use Great Axe again till you level and cap it, not that hard and having Polearm capped and ready for when you get the advanced job to use is helpfull. At least getting it up to the weapons second weaponskill at least helps out a LOT.

Not only will you be able to start killing Toughs from the get-go when you become DRG/WAR or which ever you'll be able to easily chain them for at least an exp chain #3. That will get you to at least lv. 5 is about 30 min. with your DRG. From there to get lv. 7 will take about 1 1/2 - 3 hrs, and lv. 10 in about 3 hrs after that.

That is, of course, if you were going solo during that time and had no PLevels. As far as subs it really depends on what you like. A DRG/SAM is capable of self-renkei's but it requires all your hits to make contact for that to happen. If you do DRG/WAR you'll be able to push attack higher with Berserk or defense higher with Defender, also with the DRG/WAR combination you get 2 Attack bonuses at lv. 10 and 30 and a Defense Bonus, not to mention you can Provoke if the situation needs it.

There are others that are usable as subs as well, but only really when DRG is at certain levels and given that your other jobs are leveled up to around 10 or higher aswell (if that really makes any difference to you).
