  • Why? And With This?

Hello, First of all I would like to know why ppl within this thread say that Drg is not ideal at later lvls?. I played Drg for awhile and I love it, My brother recently got the game and now I'm In a set party but I play Mnk. Mnk is very fun as well. Currently i'm a lvl 21 Mnk and lvl 25 Drg. In my set pt we have gotten to lvl 21 in 2 days. I'm thinking about going back to Drg but if it sucks so much at later lvls then I wont. Would I have the ineffectiveness prob. even though I have a set party with Drg?

Currently in my set pt there is Mnk/war,Thf/nin, Brd/whm, Whm/blm, Blm/whm and Pld/war. We are doing VERY, VERY, WELL thus far, never have to wiat for anything and we rock. Would this still be the case if I swithced over to Drg/war? I heard Drg is worthless against Skeltons, but I know there are other places to lvl. Is it fun though to lvl at these "Other" places, where a Drg would be more effective? Also will I ever be able to keep my Wyvern at later lvls? if not I wont switch from Mnk cuz even if we dont need the wyvern I want it =).

So pretty much the questions again are as follows Why are Drg not so good at 65+?, would the problems that arise then Matter with my Set pt?, Does the wyvern really die alot then?, And how many other places am I missing out on lvling in with my Drg instead of Mnk?

Also I was reading the thread about Drg/Rdm, I am elvann now, the Rse would help in the Mp dept. And It sounds fun because of the magic. I would love tips on this as well, thanx for alll those who apply and for the replies if you could go indepth for my questions that would be greatly apperciated =) :spin:

You can bring drg to about lvl 60 easily, but not long after that drg becomes a lot less desired. Basically it's because of the spear--skewer is your crowning achievement after all those weeks of slaving for exp and hours spent lfg. Not to mention the questionable effectiveness of jumps and the wyvern. When you finaly get up to a high level and look back to see if it was worth it... many say no and retire right there. Aside from being a bad skillchain and trick attack partner, there isn't really much a drg is good for since the other classes are so much better. People will only pick a drg up if they have no other choice, or they happen to be a friend.

There are many post in detail as to why, just browse this forum for... many rants on the subject.

Hmm, points taken. But the thing is that I have a set party, so would all the "Bad" things about Drg be applicable to me? Also about the areas to lvl at 60+ if i'm Drg is the places me and my party would be lessen the experiance of the game? I want to enjoy the various ares of Vana. So would I be missing out on some cool places to lvl if I switched from Mnk to Drg?

If you're in a set pty you have nothing to worry about.

Set parties seem to role pretty smoothly after a while, and having a drk or mnk instead of a drg really isn't that big a deal unless you're exp'ing off bones.

With your backline: whm, blm, brd

        and frontline: pld, thf

You could throw any damage class in the final spot and pump out the exp...no worries =)

I'd kill for that set party =/

i was exping off of toramas with a drg and drk in the same pt...

                guillotine did 500+ damage
                pentathrust did 75 damage

tell me why drgs are not terribly desirable?

You're obviously gonna miss out on SOME areas if there's a type of monster you can't fight, and I know there are some levelling grounds that involve fighting skeletons. The first one is around level 40 (Eldieme Necropolis). This is, however, quite unpopular - I've only gone there once, and it was with a JP party. It did quite well as we were the only ones there

I've heard that there are places level 60+ in which you fight skeles, but I have no level 60+ characters, so take it with a grain of salt.

So yes, you will "miss out" on some areas. Which areas and how cool those areas are I cannot say. And for this I apologize

Skeletons? Just throw on the old staff. It's less damage, but it'll be better than your lance. (assuming you keep both weapon levels up) :p

I guess it's kinda fair. Suck on skeletons, tear through flying mobs.

probally was an equipment issue Sadeira. BTW Pentra Thrust Blows. If you use it at all you use it to get off a WS when the SC isnt ready, such as the Theif not having sneak or trick up. If you hit will all 5 you can easily get 300 to 400 damage i hear (no personal experience).

Once again, penta = teh sux after lvl 57 or so. It is really only there to do extra damage when your SC partner isn't close to ready. (Usually ~50-60%) At lvl 49 when you get it, it is kind of a mixed thing, sometimes good, often bad. Only really spammed with a brd in the PT.

The damage is nothing special, maybe an average of 200-300dmg on an IT. However, without a brd to boost accuracy, somtimes it goes for crap and hits 1-3 times for less damage than a regular hit. So if you can't get enough TP back from it, sometimes you don't bother to use it at all since now your SC partner ends up waiting for you, delaying the chain damage and MBs to follow, and affecting the whole exp chain.

And yes, penta is very suceptible to crap damage on monsters with decent def. On each hit, damage is subtracted, not to mention that each attack does less dmg than a normal hit, and accuracy is pretty random. So you get 5 subtractions, on hits that are weak to begin with... so it can be... very unimpressive. On the good side, it pretty much owns low def monsters like crawlers.

Guillotine isn't affected as much since it only hits 4 times max for 100% of a regular hit, and doesn't seem to have the strange accuracy problem. Also drk's naturally higher attack more easily pierces def. Although I must say 500+ damage with guillotine isn't normal unless using very good equips. It is usually about 300-400 for me with... just decent equips. Souleater is a different story though, doing more than double the damage.

I sort of... didn't expect to pull hate off our ranger... = :dead:

well Leo there're a lot of places to pt at ... I mean if you are definitely gonna have that set pt .... there's no problem to get drg to 75 even... execept missing out on bone.. but who cares... i mean you can lvl monk later or otehr job if you wanna go to that area.

58-63, upper delfkutt , sorrowvalley ,teriggan is a nice place. I get around 4k exp/ hr there close to 5 sometime..

well around 63+ I went to Onzozo it was great exp there fun.... and I Wasn't doing poor damage.. .It's all about equipment.... make sure you update your equipments... Sniper is really important if you don't wanna miss on that IT mob a lot....

You can also go to Boyahda around 63+ but make sure you have bard... 67+ you can go to Den of Rancor nice place not a lot of people go there... hmm then you can go to Kuftal, Romaeve... at 70+ and pretty much stay there till 75... See you don't need to killl bones to get to 75....

If you finish zilart mission I'm pretty sure you can lvl at tulia... not sure about this one never pt there before cause not many NA in my Fairy has access to tulia... most prob around 6+

P.S. If you don't have set pt .. that will be a bit hard www like me stuck at 67 for couple day.. but oh well I"m busy anyway no time to pt so i don't really care...

All I can say is enjoy the game you'll find a way to beat the downside of drg... somehow...

                          Good luck
