  • My plan for becoming a Dragoon. Please read and reply (I could use help)

Ok, I figured I could level Redmage to level 15 and then switch to Thief and level him to 30 (SO I have RDM as a sub). Then do the Dragoon quest and level that job to 60. Then do the Samurai quest and level that job to 30. Then I would be DRG60/SAM30.

How is that for a plan? I would level WAR but I'd rather not have other people's lives in my hands like that (same with WHM). Would MNK be a better Subjob for THF? Or would RDM work? The reason I ask THIS is because I was a RDM and I can solo to 15 fairly easily. Thanks in Advance.

subbing mages to melees sucks, your better off leveling thief to 15, war to 30 and then goon to whatever. and the best advice is read the forums before blindly posting

If "having other people's lives in your hands" is the only thing deterring from leveling WAR to 30, don't fear.

A WAR has responsibility, but it's not exactly hard to tank up to level 30. Assuming you're not playing another game on a second computer simultaneously.

I might think about leveling WAR to 15 or THF to 15 and the other to 30.

Would MNK be a better sub for THF?

I would read over all the topics here but I do not have time to do so atm. I post here, x-box.net, gamefaqs, cheapassgamer, and the offical Playstation message boards.

          eh...I wouldn't go thief/monk

It may sound good, but it just doesn't seem to mix (imo)

Sure, some hp. But you don't get double attack like you do with warrior.

Just go with thief/warrior. You will learn to love it, after you get past lvl 10.

Thank you. I guess I could cope with being a warrior just till lvl 15.

Thank you everyone. Now, to go back to my room and cry until I can get FFXI for my PS2. lol:dead:

If DRG is going to be your main job, i suggest you get WAR, THF and SAM up. In the long run this will make you much more versitile(spelling) and helpfull in different situations. That's what I plan on doing.

                war > 18
                thf > 15
                war > 30
                drg > 60
                war > 37
                drg > 75
                sam > 37

I say Sam should be leveled last because /WAR deals more damage as a Dragoon.

Thanks for the info everyone. I am not sure I'll beable to level too many jobs because I heard that it takes a long time to level post 40. I am only going to beable to play til september. Because that is when I go into Basic. And I don't think I'll have all that much time to play after I am in the Navy.

Hmm...well if I was you. I'd probably choose Warrior. Then do warrior/thief. Then get dragoon and be drg/war or drg/thief.

It's up to you. Just make sure to have fun

WAR is easy to level, literally just provoking every 30 seconds and keep axes current to your level (ie don't be 24 using level 12 axe) and you can keep agro no problem. Only time I lost agro was due to overnuking BLM pre level 30, not hard to keep agro. I played damage dealer as a warrior to 30 though mostly. Used berserk a lot and Shield Break was very helpful in low level parties.

WAR will be generally the most effective sub job to a DRG. Only mentioned because someone mentioned THF/MNK isn't so good..if you want to level a thf its pretty decent since combo stacks with sneak attack and dagger ws are terrible at low levels, well until Viper Bite so it is a viable option. MNK sub is nice for boost and the martial arts thing. of course thf over 30, mnk loses its gusto as a sub for a thf, and double attack with warrior sub doesn't kick in until level 50 main job. Of course if you don't use hand to hand as a thf go with warrior as a sub. THf is nice to have for farming, less so for exping in the long run.

Hmm...seeing as how I would be leveling WAR solo for most of the 15 levels. I can do this.

                        Level WAR to 15.
Switch to THF and level up to 30 (at 18 get subjob and become THF/WAR and get chocobo quest at 20)
Do Dragoon quest. (Become DRG/THF) and level to 60.
Do Samurai quest. LEvel SAM to 30 or 35.

                        Then become DRG/SAM.

Now, I should go to the SAM board and see if WAR, THF, or DRG is the best Sub-job. So I know which one to sub while I level SAM.

Oye, this advance job thing is becoming more and more complicated.

I just got back from the SAM board and found out either WAR or THF would work good. I could even switch back and forth. I need to get some money cuz I want to level culinary. I could use some of the food to sell and for PT use.

Thanks for all your help again.

Your best bet is to take war strait to 30 then do drag, people say there is no best sub but thats cause everyone prefers something else. Anyway heres the strait info , all war traits / abilitys dont get decreased by subing accept double attacks activation rate is lessened slightly, sam's do , thief's do. When subing thf SA is based on the lvl of the thf job in question vs the mob so its not going to be like thief SA dmg. When subing sam meditate is reduced to 60% tp over 5 seconds every 3 minutes , this means 1 more WS every 3 mins with a lil left over if penta connects fully at lvl 60. With war sub you have atk up berserk and double atk all of which add up overtime easily. In addition war is going to be the easiest for you to lvl , tanks are a must, thfs arent so you will get grps easier unless theres 50 other noobie wars competing for grps.
