  • Questions about the Dragoon class...

#1. Are there more Dragoons than Ninjas, Monks, Dark Knights or Samurais at level 40+
#2. If you LD, log-out, or ride a chocobo does your Wyvern vanish?
#3. As a Dragoon which stats should you try to level?
#4. As a Dragoon should you only level Polearm, or are there other weapons you should level?
And #5. Dose your Wyvern die fast/alot? If so, dose your party try to boot you cuz they think your now worthless?

    thank you.

#1. Are there more Dragoons than Ninjas, Monks, Dark Knights or Samurais at level 40+

about the same # of drks but they are more abundant than ninjas and sams.. haven't paid too much attention to monks

#2. If you LD, log-out, or ride a chocobo does your Wyvern vanish?

    LD no,
logout yes if you're not in town and quit POL (if you leave pol on your wyvern will always be with you)
    Choco- yes

#3. As a Dragoon which stats should you try to level?
you do'nt control what stats you level.. the only customization you have is yoru subjob and it's level. the prefered sub is war, but you play what you wish as they all work rather well with drg. Most players boost dex/accuracy over everything else.

#4. As a Dragoon should you only level Polearm, or are there other weapons you should level?
drg's specialize with the polearms and gain penta thrust at lvl 49 which is very useful for a few levels. It's recommended you stay with it.

And #5. Dose your Wyvern die fast/alot? If so, dose your party try to boot you cuz they think your now
    worthless?
people don't boot others out of a party for menial things like that. But yes teh wyvern will die in 2 fights if the monster has an area attack.. but they aren't all that useful later on in the game.

#4 You might want to lvl a swd so you aren't useless against undead. Also makes you more useful in hnm fights.

Still Staff (2 hands blunt) is B- and sword is C- for Dragoon. So if you sub is: WAR,MNK,WHM,PLD, than you have access to all the WS of Staff:

Staff (Ex WAR,MNK,WHM,PLD) (Ex could be Sub or Main)
              Lev Name Effect: Extra Effect:
Staff 10 Heavy Swing Damage Extra Damage
Staff 40 Rock Crusher Earth Attack Extra Damage
Staff 70 Earth Crusher Ranged Earth Attack Extra Damage
Staff 100 Star Burst Light or Dark Attack Extra Damage
Staff 150 Sun Burst Light or Dark Attack Extra Damage
Staff 175 Shell Crusher Target DEF Down Lasts Longer
Staff 200 Full Swing Damage Extra Damage
              Staff 215 Spirit Taker ? ?
              Staff 230 Retribution ? ?

So Staff should be much better again undead than sword, not only by att stat but because blunt vs. undead is prolly the best weapon type. As to know if Staff WS mix easily in Renkei, this i can't answer you.

List of Staff that dragoon can use:

              Spiked Club lev 25 dmg 26 dly 402 Attack+3

              Footman's Staff lev 45 dmg 41 dly 390 Attack+7
              MNK/WHM/PLD/DRG

              Battle Staff lev 60 dmg 49 dly 402 Accuracy+3 Attack+10

              Eight-Sd. Pole+1 lev 75 dmg 58 dly 390 Accuracy+5 Attack+9
              MNK/WHM/PLD/DRG

              Kirin's Pole Rare lev 75 dmg60 dly 402 HP+20 MP+20 INT+10 MND+10 [FIR]+15 [ICE]+15 [WND]+15 [ERT]+15 [LTG]+15 [WTR]+15 [LIT]+15 [DKN]+15

only problem with staves is that they do shit damage and their weapon skills aren't particularily appealing.

hell, a polearm with the damage reductions usually do as much damage as a stave.

With a sword, even with the low rating, you will be semi useful on hnm hunts (spirits within). Also keep in mind slashing weapons are second best against undead.

But staff does 2x damage vs bones no?

That's where you would want to use staffs...otherwise your polearm should work for all other types of mobs.

Sword wouldn't be terrible...my PLD friend does about the same damage vs bones with 1h sword as I do with polearm, but he swings much faster of course.

Yea, no real benefit to using staves besides undead. Even with the skill difference vs undead I do significantly more damage with a staff than I do using a lance. Vs bones I do less damage than the Paladins always with a lance, its quite sad.

Otherwise no real use for staves. Just a nice to have kind of thing..besides if you are exping off undead anyway you really shouldn't be. Parties should pick damage dealers based on where they want to go really, sort of goes without saying.

I want a class that isn't the most common mellee, Darkhero stated that Dark Knights and Dragoons are pretty common, but how about Monks and Samurais.

I either want to be a Monk or a Samurai, but I don't want to start as a job that I won't ever want to level. Because if I want to go Monk, I'd go Monk till 18, do subjob and switch to Warrior till 15, then back to Monk. But if I want to be a Samurai I'd start as a Warrior, then get thief as a subjob....ETC

So if anyone can, can someone check which job has less people as it, between Sam and Monk (at level 40+). Because I'm gonna get the PS2 version in about 1.5 weeks.

                          Thank you.

I'd probably say Monks are less common than Samurai, simply because Samurai can weapon skill out the arse.

Start off as monk, build it to 18, then war. Then keep switching. Then you can have a monk/warrior.

Lots of hp, beserk, double attack.
